:chewbacca:

I'd post the available thumbnails but im too lazy to reupload them somewhere else. Current place doesn't allow hotlinking. Screenshots are looking awfully dark... hoping its just my monitor...

Forgive me I dont' know the HDTV source. :)

*doesn't know why this was moved to ORIGINAL* :-p

I'll take that DNR'ed Qui-Gon shot with a grain (pun intended) of salt, since all we've seen from TPM doesn't show anything like that.

You're all a bunch of nubs, seriously. These are MKV's (compressed) and they are real. But they are very close to what you will get.

I suppose you still don't believe lucas only changed one of lukes sabers to blue...

I'd read somewhere on the internet from someone who'd previewed the discs that there was noticeable DNR.

What?

I know what they are. Read my post again.

My .mkv shows that he only changed one shot, yes. Where's the correlation to this?

and why has the top of Mace's head in that updated Yoda shot suddenly turned to blue haze? it's not like that in the puppet shot. it's like Back to the Future. something has happened to the space/time continuum !

From the Lucasfilm propaganda events with hometheaterforum and thedigitalbits - it was mentioned that there is 8% more screen than the theatrical and DVD release. We were given a preview of the new larger screen area for Episode I - almost five years ago on History Channel's Star Wars The Legeacy Revealed - when alternate wide shots from The Prequels were shown.

There is definitely more image at the top and bottom as well as the sides.

Not sure why the background is bleeding into the top of his head like that - it looks a little like the halo effects they added around characters stood in front of bright daytime backgrounds elswhere in the movie ... maybe the original crop was intentional to get rid of this shoddy effect, and somebody just forgot (joke).

Anyway - that is the least of our worries. Look at how the shoddy way CGI Yoda has been added has actually eaten away at part of Windu's Hood! Compare the two grabs and you can see how they have dropped a whole new shoulder area on along with the Yoda and it appears to be sitting on top of the fold in the hood visible in the original shot.

Look at Mace's forehead then go left, and check out the stone pattern just after the wall bevel. You can see the part where they've cloned to extend the top of the frame, at least for the wall. It seems to be in the HD capture as well.

*EDIT* Nevermind this was answered in the first post, it's unknown. Anyone know the HD source? There's been some questioning of the HD sources, if they use the 16-235 color palate or 0-255.)

Here's a similar shot from a TPM Theatrical Preservation Recording (bootleg):

People have commented before about the 1999 recordings having extra bottom frame over the dvd release.

Not that there was any doubt, but the PT looks fantastic in Blu-ray. That shot of Mace and Yoda is incredible. Love the new Yoda.

On closer inspection, I now see the shoddy work on Mace's hood. Wow.

Yoda looks good at least.

I mean, I know that these are compressed, but it looks like Phantom Menace has been DNR'd to death.

No seeds

I think that exaggeration only applies to that Qui-Gon shot.

Yoda looks good; better than he does anywhere else in the PT. I mean, he looks like he might have something in common with ESB at least. SO, can't be bother to DL - any changes so far?

Oh my god, I just looked at the Qui-Gon pic you were all talking about. Hey kids! It plastic Jesus! Fuck me that's rough looking.

I think all the Phantom shots appear DNR'd. Look at the one of the queen. Yuck. Lucas-approved American Graffiti and THX-1138 Blu-ray transfers were loaded with DNR and edge enhancement.

I have a theory as to why this scene looks the way it does and if I'm correct, the blood test scene should appear similar. Those two shots were filmed digitally and inserted among the 35mm. This was before Sony had delivered the CineAlta cam used for Episode II, so I assume the sharpening was an attempt to better match the surrounding film footage.

That being said, Elliot is correct that the other shots have some variable amount of DNR and artificial sharpening.

Soo Samuel L. Jackson is now CGI too?

Jar Jar animation looks poor in this transfer. It really brings out the fakeness. Although he does look more realistic than the other guys here:

Or perhaps an alternate take? I think all of tpm looks to have some pretty heavy-handEd DNR - look at the amidala close up compared to similar shots in the OT BRs; as deficient as those transfers are there is still better fine detail in th OT stuff, showing a great deal of skin texture for example.

The Phantom Menace has a softness that I wonder is included in the film source rather than the transfer. However, its clarity and framing are striking compared to what has been shown previously.

there are parts of TPM that look great, some that look terrible, and most of the time it looks feh.

verdict. disappointment.

did they edit the jedi council scenes in a way that excluded the close up of yaddle? i didn't notice one noticeable shot of her.
