If any of you think the look of the reboot suit looks better than this, you need to pull your heads out of your ass.

I kind of like the Raimi suit more. Just looks more like a classic, undistracting, catch all Spidey.

The Raimi suit was the best thing about the those films.

I'd take that suit over the mechanical shooters.

I liked Spider-Man 1 and 2. I did like 3 to an extent but it was a bit of a let down compared to the first two and especially from Spider-Man 2.

Also keep in mind Maguire was a bit on the scrawny side himself when he landed the role as Peter Parker. He was told to get himself buffed up a bit before shooting started so he wouldn't look so scrawny. This new guy for Peter Park is way too scrawny, even with him being in the suit.

It looks like the Maguire suit took one major shit and this is the result. This is worse than the rebooted Bale Batman suit, at least that suit kept close to the original design as best as possible (I like Bale's Batman suit, even a bit more than Keaton's original). Hell the rebooted Spider-Man suit looks even worse than the rebooted Superman suit from Superman Returns (and I LIKE that suit).

You also can't tell me that a high school kid like Peter Parker developed mechanical web shooters, I don't care how much of a genius he is.

Those web shooters look like re-worked wrist watches. I'm hoping that is part of the story, as in Peter, a broke High School kid, had to fashion them out of a couple of cheap watches he had lying around. Otherwise, it's pretty bad failure for the movie's production design team.

Thanks for the download!

After watching that, my first thought was: Maybe it is severely too early for a reboot.

They might as well just re-release the Raimi SM movie again. I don't see a huge difference between the two or really see a point in another origin film right now.

Way, way too early for a reboot and this trailer is proof.

I couldn't have been more underwhelmed. It almost feels like a cheap imitation. Definitely doesn't feel as "epic" in tone as the Raimi films did and I'm not even a giant fan of those.

the first person perspective was kinda neat. other than that, it was COMPLETELY the wrong tone for Spiderman. this was dark, brooding and moody Spiderman and Spiderman ain't that!

I thought the first person perspective looked like really horrible CG, all though hard to tell from the shitty quality. I have a feeling it will look like shit once we get a higher quality of the trailer. Either way I agree with CoGro about this film as far as it being too early for a reboot.

I really have never wanted a movie to fail completely until now. I really do hope this Spider-Man reboot tanks at the box office. All though it may not...if it pleases the "sheep". I hate using that term but I mean the people who will gush over anything like this no matter how shitty it turns out.

Don't think this won't make coin. Think about it, the Raimi SM came out back in 2002. Not that long ago for us, but all of them lil kiddies who were 4-5 back then are now in their mid-teens. Just the right age to frivolously throw money away.

The HD Trailer

The first person view looks worse in HD, like a FPS video game. The tone is all wrong and the costume is still awful. I long for the days of "Raindrops." Ugh.

Definitely should have just stuck with Raimi suit. This new suit is horrible looking.

And I know that organic webshooters don't stick to the comics but I thought that was much more plausible that the idea that a high school student, no matter how much of a genius he is, could create webbing.

Fucking hell you were right CoGro that the first person view does look worse in the HD version. Just painfully UGH, really horrible CG!

That's not surprising. I'm sure most are wondering why the hell there is a reboot so soon after Raimi's 3rd one. I really do hope this movie tanks at the box office.

that's right bitches, the BEAR came through for you again!

the Lizard was confirmed at Comic Con and seen. he's apparently "hulk" sized and looks like a green Venom from the comics. no white labcoat, naked green cgi monster which I also heard described as looking like Pumpkinhead. his first big reveal happens inside a womens bathroom where he busts up underneath the toilet and grabs two girls.

Image

The physical inspiration apparently comes from the early comics appearance, namely Amazing Spiderman #6 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko seen here:

I read that while the rest of the film feels quite good - much better than the shit offered in the trailer - the lizard, especially the CGI - is awful from both a design and technical standpoint.

First the stupid suit and now this.

Part of me giggles, part of me cringes, and part of me is pissed that this thing sounds so awfull, so early.

The main bitch I had about the Raimi versions was with characterization, and the lousy job the miscast actors did portraying the principals. James Franco may be the exception, but the rest of them bored me. Toby M. was a shitty choice for the part, and I assumed the main issue I had to worry about with a reboot of the "Spiderman" films would be fixed by a seemingly better cast. And that all seems out the window. Kind of surprised, honestly.

I was ready to accept the suit. I don't like it much, but it might have worked. The lizard looks and sounds like shit, from here. Which makes me wonder about things beyond my base of knowledge. Spiderman, onscreen with the mask on in the Raimi films, was perfect.

No, the story didn't do it for me, I'm not a fan of those films per se, but the way the character of the hero was characterized onscreen, his physical actions and appearance, was exactly what I'd expect and hope to see. Why do they feel the need to redo it?

Is it a legal thing? Like "Hulk" vs "The Incredible Hulk". The Hulk, as put onscreen in Ang Lee's version, Perfect. Stupid growing bigger issues aside, when Bana-r turned green, that was exactly what I was hoping for. The reboot Hulk looked like a green crackhead.

Why not just reuse the working design, when it's the shitty scripts and lame emo-montage's that ruined the films? Why throw out the good with the bad? Why not cannibalize what the audience found acceptable and use that familiarity to build something better overall on top of? Or am I just naive, maybe.

Wow...if that's not a damnation, I don't know what is. That was probably the most cringe-inducing sequence I have ever seen in any movie, regardless of context. Completely destroyed that film for me.

No, it was afterward where Peter Parker sees the kid getting beat up in the alleyway and doesn't do anything. Worst part of that movie.

They should have cast a kid who was actually high school age for this.

I read somewhere the next trailer will be released on February 9 with a quick glimpse at the Super Bowl.

See, they fucked up again with "teh Lizard" (it's not THE Lizard, this is Sony's "tard" version, so it's teh Lizard) They've made him into just a scary monster guy. That's not what makes the Lizard compelling.

Connors was a fellow scientist who lost an arm and goes about trying to repair his lost appendage through scientific study of lizards who are able to regrow their tails. Connors inadvertently becomes mutated into a giant Lizard, but not completely. Lizard battles the raging emotions of the animal, trying to take over his humanity. It consumes him, overcomes him.

Lizard struggles against the monster inside. That's why he retains his lab coat. Connors is holding on to those memories of being a man, it torments him. Sometimes it overcomes him and of course Spidy has to beat his ass down. He retreats, goes and cries in the sewers and waits for a cure.

It's meant to be a pitiful story. It's the FLY movie. Not the boogey-lizard. FUCK this movie and this emo/homo Spidy.

I don't like it one bit. the tone is completely off. it's dark, brooding Spiderman with a few wise acre comments thrown in to make it kinda sound like Spidey. "The masked vigilante known as spiderman." um, no, that's Batman!

[flash width=645 height=385]http://www.youtube.com/v/-tnxzJ0SSOw?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0&hd=1[/flash]

so the big spoiler rumors about the ending are the Lizard takes this green power bomb up to the top of this building and tries to turn the whole city into lizards. He succeeds in turning the SWAT members and Spidey must now fight the main Lizard as well as gun toting, riot gear Lizards. You catch a quick glimpse of the Lizard on the tower with some kinda device in front of him in this trailer. :whateva:

Aqua Mutant Police Lizard Force, huh? That would seriously suck.

But the trailer on its own I rather like. I missed Spidey's wisecracks and the web shooting contraptions in the Raimi version, so I'm glad they have those here. I don't care that it's darker or sillier or whatever before the movie comes out. It can end up good or awful, regardless of the tone. The newest Death and Return of Superman film is for example somewhat surprising in tone, but pure perfection. :)

It's a good trailer but the design and tone problems make me really unexcited to see this. It doesn't feel like Spider-man at all. And as much as I initially hated Tobey's voice in the Spider-man mask, I think he sounded more like Spider-man than Garfield does.

There's an honest innocence in Tobey's voice that Garfield doesn't have. He sounds like a teenage punk and Peter never came off like a punk.

Webshooters? Cool.

Lizard? Terrible.

Captain Stacy / Parker's table conversation was cringeworthy.

here's his green lizard-making device on top of the tower:

Image

and here's where the rumor initially came from:

joblo.com

Quote:
Marc Webb's THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN will be featuring a big action sequence near the end of the film where Spidey will fight off a gaggle of S.W.A.T. police officers. Thing is, all the cops are actually lizards!

"...many of the stunt actors in the film have been spending time in heavy make-up for hours on end because of a fight scene in the film where they’re turning all the S.W.A.T. team guys into reptilian creatures..."

this rumor is from Feb 2011, LOOONG before any scenes were shown of Spidey fighting SWAT in the trailers.

What's funny is that's the least of my problems with this movie so far. Transforming society into Lizard creatures has long been one of Connors' schemes. It's a silly scheme, but at least it finds its origins in the comics. That said, I wouldn't care for it in a movie but it's not as "where the hell did that stupid idea come from" as the character designs and the origin changes.

The good thing about being a lizard is that bodyparts grow back after falling off.

Tim Roth in The Incredible Hulk wasn't so lucky. Not even a tail.

Tidbits about the direction of the Webb Spider-man series.

The grand story is the mystery of Peter's parents, which will apparently take many movies to unveil.

Omfg. I have been completely ignoring New-Spiderman due to the bad taste left in my eyeballs by the Dopey McGuire as "Not-Peter Parker" series which I've derided at great length over the years.

Saw the trailer for this tonight with the Hunger Games, or "The" Hunger Games, or w/ever. That Hungry gaming-chick is kind of hot, is she jailbait or legal? Im old as fuck, they all look like jailbait these days, someone clarify please (because that movie don't merit its own thread apparently). And I was really surprised by my own reaction. To the trailer for Spiderman, I mean.

While the bashing of the tone and look of the film seems "not without merit" and all that, the Peter Parker they've shown is miles above and beyond the Raimi version. In terms of actually capturing a believable Peter Parker on-screen, at least, story/plot/production issues aside. And as a fan, that at least got me kind of excited.

I couldn't be less excited for this movie. I really don't have any interest in re-visiting this origin story; especially with this tone, the CGI, these actors and the revised origin. Not to mention the fact that I think the design is shit.
