I like it not sure what the whole gladiator bit is but ok. The whole internal struggle part at the beginning was neat.

The first game was a big disappointment and I'm still not on board with this ultra-hyped force power universe. It's far too distracting and I can't suspend my disbelief enough to buy it as canon.

Just give me a next-gen Jedi Outcast, still the best Star Wars third/first person shooter around.

I agree - way too "superheroish" for me. I'm glad The Clone Wars didn't go this route. The Kinect game below for the XBOX 360 seems to split the difference between hyper Force powers and the more standard portrayal:

How cool would it be to use the Force in a game by moving your hand? You could crush character’s throats by squeezing just like the Skywalker's. I'm playing through Jedi Academy now. So far, I like it better than Outcast. I wish Lucasarts would do an updated version of the original Jedi Knight. The graphics and controls have become outdated.

The appeal of the Force Unleashed is that it is sanctioned (and partially crafted) by Lucas. At least this time it will be released for PC at the same time as consoles.

I still crave a true Dark Forces III. Jedi Knight is still my absolute favorite Star Wars game, having been replayed far more than any other. A programmer is making an OpenGL port of the DOS Dark Forces. LucasArts should hire this guy and give him some support. They've recently shown some appreciation of their legacy, providing us the remakes of Monkey Island.

I like Dee Bradley Baker as Boba.

The voice actor playing Vader really needs to brush-up on his James Earl Jones impression.

Holy crap, it really does just seem like they're remaking "Empire" with this thing. I mean the story in the first game wasn't anything to write home about but atleast it was original (if trite).

That said, they're probably going to get my $60 either way (if only for the amazing sound design in the previous game and the promise of similar work in the sequel). I just hope they fix the gameplay issues that made the first such a terrible experience.

New cut scene: I like how it simultaneously has an OT, PT, and Clone Wars feel. Hopefully, the LAS can emulate this style.

That second commercial looks incredible. The close-ups of the stormtroopers are indistinguishable from the "real" thing.

I don't play these games, but really? You just kind of hop in the air and make a bunch of guys disintegrate? My money ain't on Vader judging from what I saw him do in the movies.

That's how the Force works in these games. It's a mechanic, and Vader, the Emperor, everyone can do the same kind of thing.

Just finished the demo it's pretty good, the controls are tighter and the action is faster than FU1.

First review from GameInformer says the story is pretty terrible though

TFU is a very poorly conceived series.

Aside from unbelievable cut scene animation and some kinda fun force grip elements it's a ridiculous and over-the-top story with ludicrous gameplay mechanics.

I think if you polled 1 million Star Wars fans and asked them if they'd rather realistic gameplay within the Star Wars universe (i.e. great saber fighting mechanics with some force powers) or out of control force powers and poor saber combat I think you'd get the overwhelming majority of people vote for the former.

The gameplay looks identical to the first game, which wasn't even worth a rental for me after I played the demo.

My favorite SW games are the Supers for SNES, Shadows of the Empire, Rogue Squadron II and the original Battlefront. I wish they'd make sequels and games similar to those, but they keep doing this old republic and Lego stuff that doesn't interest me in the slightest. I could not get into TFU.

I think anyone would, provided you skewed your question with negative adjectives for one choice and positive adjectives for the second.

"Which would you prefer, really awesome choice A or really terrible choice B?"

I think you might be surprised by the answers if the question were a little more discretionary. I much prefer the brawler mechanics of this series to the get-unlucky-and-get-cut-in-half mechanics of Jedi Knight.

LOL True. Hypothetically phrasing a question like that is not helpful if you just want an honest answer from people.

I think for the purposes of a game it's interesting to have some over the top force powers, however it's a little bit of an issue considering the games are also supposed to be canon. But if it's canon most people take with a grain of salt anyway than whats the difference? I say just play it & have fun if you can.

Personally, I'd rather have them make a 45 minute CGI story using the script for the game and release that on DVD. The animation from the cut scenes is fantastic, it's just the game play that's disappointing.

In the Cargo Forums both the Force Unleashed II Audio Novel (Unabridged) and Graphic Novel have been uploaded.

Image

The Graphic Novel is Boba-centric and a pretty good read. As always with Audio Novels the story starts out with the 20th Centruy Fox Fanfare giving off the audio equivalent of the movie's iconic opening scroll.

I played the demo for this thing the other night. The demo level was Kamino, I suspect though that may have been the very first level of the game. It really wasn't much of a demo but it's cool to see the new moves and such. Fighting with two single bladed sabers is much better than with one. I also love the fact that, this time around if you use your lightsaber on a Stormtrooper you can dismember them or decapitate them. Something that you were unable to do in the first game.

Edit: Either way I'm looking forward to getting the game next week from Amazon.

Escape from Kamino is indeed the first level of the game. During the first week of August, I was fortunate enough to attend a media only event here in Sydney, in which members of LucasArts showed us some cool cut scenes, talked a little about the story line, then finally let us all have a play of level one on an Xbox.

Indeed nice finds Topkea. In the dark side video I heard a bit of "Padmé's Visit" from ROTS. I think I also heard the beginning of "Obi-Wan Faces Droids" in the same video.

I really hope with the retail version of this game the voices and sound effects will actually be muted this time during the cut scenes. There were quite a few cut scenes in the first TFU game that had clean unreleased material from ROTS that I wanted. Unfortunately the voices and sound effects were never muted, despite the fact I had them muted in the settings.

I'll have the game tomorrow from Amazon and I'm looking forward to playing it.

I just beat this game and I will say for the record it's very satisfying. I actually enjoyed it much more than the first TFU game. Vader was a more of a pain in the ass to beat in this one but it was worth the effort. Also too the Light Side is obviously the correct ending and the way how it ends (like the video posted above) I wouldn't be surprised if they made a third Force Unleashed game.

In looking through the cheats for the game, I see that there is a Fett costume. Does this suit give you Fett's abilities like the cheat in Jedi Academy?

In general, I wonder why Lucasarts has never released a decent bounty hunter game. I never played the Jango Fett game, but I heard it wasn't good. I think one of the mistakes with that game was making it linear. Probably the best route would be to make the game world open-ended and give players the ability to play as various marquee bounty hunters. Lucasarts could start the series with a game in the PT, do a sequel set in the force unleashed time period, and end in the OT. Who wouldn’t want to play something along these lines?

This was canceled a little while ago. It's possible that the storyline is picked up in the LAS.

The Bounty Hunter game was not bad at all. The storytelling was about as good if not better than TFU's and the gameplay was actually fun. I remember some levels being duds, but the well conceived combat mechanics more than made up for it.

A few levels into Bounty Hunter, I got stuck and lost interest.

There are two game series that LucasArts seems to have dismissed and they really need to get on. Rogue Squadron and Battlefront. I still regularly play Rogues II and III, as well as the original Battlefront. The Battle of Endor in Rogue Leader is pretty much unmatched in terms of Star Wars video game levels.

Although I loved the games, the flight mechanics in the Rogue Squadron series gave me fits, personally. They were so pre-set and programmed to each level, the whole thing restricted parts of my brain I naturally engage in a piloting game. They really need to study, or just buy, the people who make the Ace Combat games. The flight mechanics in those games are the greatest. Not 'real world' accurate, but for the purposes of gameplay, freaking stellar. Adding vehicle customization and replay function like the Ace Combat series has would be great as well. Truly the greatest flying warfare games ever imo.

Kind of the same problem with the jetpack functions of Bounty Hunter, although I got over it since it isn't a Jango Fett:Flying Man of Death game anyway. I really dug that game and agree the story aspects were handled very well. I always felt it filled in a lot of details about Jango that made him a more rich and tragic character in the series than he was before I played it.

I loved Bounty Hunter. I am still holding out hope for some sort of sequel. It had a great story and fun combat. If they fleshed it out more and refined it a bit, it'd be amazing.

It looks pretty awesome, if somewhat painful to watch at first. Is that actual gameplay footage? It looks pretty dope As all fuck methinks.

It doesn't bother me too much though, as Im certain no actual wookies, princesses or Harrison Ford's were harmed in the making of this promotional material. They should have a disclaimer or something.

The Harrison Ford death may have been real come to think of it. The current version of Ford appears to actually be a rum guzzling romance-buddy-cop-comedy robot imposter, whom I don't see in films anymore anyway. Because I don't see those kind of movies. I hope he's better in Cowboys and Aliens. He's in that, right?
