As a Daft Punk fan I'd be sold on that clip on their presence alone but the movie scenes look like the Legacy film may hold some promise.

Clu cannot create fresh programs because Flynn has the root program and Clu is locked out. The Grid is a far more complex version of the reality from the old Encom mainframe and Flynn's big breakthrough was that he figured out how to turn the digitizing laser into a "quantum tunnel" portal capable of manifesting simulated objects or programs in the real world via an evolutionary "digital DNA" technique.

Clu has the access to change the nature of existing programs has has been "rectifying" the useful ones into members of an elite army and designing advanced technology and vehicles for them. Clu believes with Flynn's root access code, he can access the portal from inside the Grid and manifest himself and his troops in the real world. The portal system will create human bodies and real materials for their gear out of fresh molecules with a matter/energy conversion system.

This is why the tech of the Grid is more "real" and less purely virtual. Flynn created it as a research and development lab, with rules similar to reality, and it's been developing technology for a thousand years. Whatever Clu's motivations for invading reality, his forces pose a credible and deadly threat due to their superior technology.[/align]

It looks awesome, but will it deliver the same feel the first movie had, I only miss a digital looking world, an animated world, the light cycles need to be more unrealistic scetchy if it should give the same feel as the first movie, but as a standalone it gives a tremendous impression anyway :)

I honestly don't even know why they feel the need to connect this movie to the original-no one remembers it! This is all about the eye candy.

I like the story and this movie should at least be about the story. The eyecandy is there, lots of it in comparison to the original, bringing something exceptionally new technology-wise. Nowadays isn't that revolutionary anymore.

I still remember as 15 year old when I first saw the movie it was a style I had never seen before. In those days for me it had the pioneering feel Star Wars had, in a way this movie is indeed impossible to compare to the original one. :)

learned some new info on the origin of the director from the latest Entertainment Weekly.

This is the director's first film and was a drafting graduate - doing upper class home remodel cad drawings until he somehow started doing some minor cg work in his spare time. The Director ended up doing Halo 3 and Gears of War commercials.

Anyways, the part that was interesting was the Director made the 2008 Comic-con Trailer by himself! He showed the work to Jeff Bridges and Jeff showed up and did a days work for the trailer for free because he liked what he saw and they hit it off. That's how he got the director's job and really even cemented the visual style of the movie.

:schoolyou: so if it sucks, it's his fault and he should be kicked back to laying out toilet positions in nice bathrooms on the upper east side.

There's rumor that the Pirates 4 trailer in 3d will be attached to Tron!

Soundtrack clips are up at Amazon Deutschland. Other than "Derezzed," "End Of Line," and "Tron Legacy (End Titles)," the music is very Hans Zimmer-like. To me, that's a good thing for a soundtrack. (However, I do wish that Daft Punk would release a new proper album soon.)

Love the sound of this score. Thanks for the link. Does sound Zimmer-ish in places, but the heavy electronic emphasis is fantastic. Can't wait until the whole thing is available.

It has screened for the press. Heavy embargo. Most think it is awesome with a grammy-worthy score. Read here some twitter impressions that have been collected.

Some excerpts:

@oliviawilde - (WOW. Tron is a wild ride. So beautiful! So proud of the whole team! Incredible stuff. Daft Punk score is SICK.)
@elguapo1 - (Sorry guys, I’m embargoed from saying how FUCKING AWESOME Tron: Legacy was, and I’m not one to break an embargo.)
@hollywoodlvwork - (Just saw new sci-flick “TRON”. WOW! You thought Avatar was visually amazing. Wait til you see this movie!)

Well, after Skyline, my wife and her best friend, and her best friends husband, all told me I'm not allowed to pick movies anymore. So I might be doing this one solo. Which I will, because it looks awesome. Plus, who's the somewhat nailable brunette girl program I've seen in the trailers? And is it wrong for me to hope she's a porno-simulator program who is naked through large portions of the film?

Which serves to make me wonder. What kinds of modern computing issues may be incorporated into this film? Will there be loads of 'spam' flying around? Viruses? What about pop-ups? It would be great if, during some tense or dramatic moment, someone shows up out of nowhere and asks "Would you like to add inches to your penis?"

Soundtrack clips I've heard, god knows where, really seem to incorporate the atmospheric vibe of the 80's. The simple melodic structure of the original seems to be there, but not as cold as the early clean-synth sounds. I enjoy a lot of Daft Punks music, I hope they get an award for this. Can you imagine them accepting their Oscar dressed up as and insisting that they are indeed robots? That will be fucking rad.

Here's a comment:

Tron Legacy's team is also remaking Disney's The Black Hole. In the MF video forum - DVDRips of Tron 1982 and Black Hole 1979 have been uploaded. Both are either going to be as good as or much better than Tron Legacy given the reviews of the remake-reboot consist of "live-action faces on CGI bodies".

That video makes me wish they hadn't redone the entire look of "the grid" and instead used more sophisticated camerawork and shot compositions while retaining the "old school tron style."

Eh. Maybe not.

They had free showings around the country last night in select cities, did anyone check it out? I was tempted to hit up the one at Disney Downtown, but got the memo way too late and I'm sure lines were big. I don't know about how well these free showings do towards hyping movies up. Plus with the snowed in state that much of the country is currently in, it's going to be an interesting weekend opening to watch.
