It's going to be just fucking awesome.

Thanks for the news! We all know how Lucas likes to control his productions, so despite him being in the executive producer's chair, I see this as his film. Lucas moving beyond Star Wars is a welcome thing, indeed.

I haven't been keeping up with production so I was surprised to hear that the whole "reshoots" rumor has been shot down. Definitely nice to hear the shoot wasn't a troubled one after all (apparently). I had a feeling the pickups were just part of Lucas' typical production schedule, I mean he did the same thing while filming the prequels.

Behind the scenes footage using Canon DSLR's for Red Tails pick-up shots.

Philip Bloom - who helped with the pick-ups - also was consulted for the Star Wars Live-Action Series.

If it weren't for the perfect photo-real VFX and some A-list actors, it looks like an indie production through and through. That's what George went for, I guess.

It'll be a nice film, but along the same lines as "Flyboys".

A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down-looks like it should be a fun ride of a flick with a little bit of a history lesson thrown in.

Has anyone seen this yet. (I’m waiting until next weekend.)

I always find it churlish when a critic (or viewer) assumes that there is a very rigid definition for a "good" film. With some Red Tails reviews, critics see to insist that a high level simplistic approach to story, characters, and dialogue is inherently wrong. I guess I should stop watching and enjoying classic silent cinema. My mistake. :whateva:

Saw this a few hours ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I really don't get the negativity*.

My only criticisms is that it sometimes felt all over the place, tonally. Like patchwork (although, that kinda has its charm). And that there wasn't enough flying action. There was a lot but I could've used some more.

But apart from that, it was funny, dramatic, fairly action-packed and beautifully shot. The music was also very good. I liked the somewhat modern flourishes of the score.

The acting and dialogue was suitable, all patriotic and folksy. "Lightning" was a memorable character and the catalyst for two instances of applause from the audience. I could tell the nearly packed-house was enjoying the film. Laughing at all the right parts and so forth.

*Some of my most favorite movies of the past few years have pulled 30-something percentages on RottenTomatoes.

I'm seeing that trend as well. I'm also seeing that many critics think that this part of American history deserves a more serious, more dramatic film. But I like what GL has said about it being a film in the vein of WWII action films that weren't necessarily topical films of more thoughtful social interest. I recall GL saying that this isn't supposed to be a film about victims, which is what some critics would like it to be.

I caught it Friday night. Audience loved it; the Lucasfilm logo at the top of the picture even got a couple of claps which made me chuckle.

The film was everything I expected: a rousing popcorn flick with amazing action sequences. I also really enjoyed the score by Terence Blanchard (Spike Lee's go-to composer). The film could've benefited from a tighter pace but other than than I felt it was a pretty strong work.
