They look a bit more finished, especially the lighting. They seem to fit more with the environment instead of being so obvious.

Nice shoes. Do I think Sienna Miller could look any hotter in this movie? Nope. Ok maybe if she were wearing a leather studded skirt.

I have to agree. Even though I find this film to look ridiculous and everyone keeps talking about Sienna "nice shoes" Miller, I think the redhead is awesome.

I've read on other boards from people finding the whole movie adaptation TPB at Borders. I checked out a store near me hoping to find it so I could scan it but no luck. From the reviews and preview pages I like the way that characters like Destro, Baroness, Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow are being handled.

On a side note, I'm looking forward to getting the complete DVD box set of the original series from Shout! Factory in a couple weeks. Looks awesome, the TF set certainly is.

It really has been one of the worst summers for movies in recent memory.

Sadly, I think this is only going to add to it. :(

At this point I don't think that would be very hard to do. Although I still think Star Trek was great.

I gravitate towards Sienna because as a brunette she looks like someone in real life I know that I want to fuck.

Also, the redhead is in serious need of a new hairstyle that doesn't make it look like she has a receding hairline. Besides that, she's a redhead. That's hard to pull off IMO unless it's naked and getting drilled.

A description of the characters from the Confidential G.I. Joe Files book is below (source: HissTank.com). Based on th einformation, all characters seem somewhat true to form. Pardon the “gramar” in the article.

[spoil]

Snakeeyes: Is Sworn to Silence do to the death of his HardMaster, who he found dead and has blamed Storm Shadow. He is believed to have been born to AMERICAN parents in Japan and is an orphan. He joins the clan after he is found stealing from its kitchen as a child and grows up with SS. He is sworn to silence.

Scarlett: Is trained in martial arts by her father and three older brothers who are martial arts instructors. It says she is one of the original thirteen members . It also says she is very intrigued by Snake Eyes who alowed her to beat him in a training session. The two are very close. No MENTION OF HER IN RIPCORD IN EITHER FILE CARDS. Scarlett is Canadian

Cover Girl: was a Model is American and is Hawk's righ hand woman.

Heavy Duty: is English he loves music. Expert in Heavy Artillery, he was also a British Soldier. He sound like a real bad ass on his filecard.

Breaker: Breaker is Moroccon was an expert for NATO he was one of the orginal thirthteen. His suit is wired to the PIT's computer at all times. The guy is a wiz.

Ripcord: It says he join the army with Duke and served under Duke's command for years. He never hid the fact his first love was flying jets. He will play a major role in the movie and it says do to his heroic nature he is often put in extremely dangerous mission. Again no mention of him an Scarlett being interlinked.

Duke: Was a commander of a special forces unit in the army. His unit use to carry the most dangerous operations. I sbest friend with Ripcord. Has faced danger all over the world. Mention the story of Rex being his fiances brother and a army scientist who was sent with Duke to a jungle village to retrieve information from a Scientist gone AWOL studing nanomites. Rex had never been under combat, at one point Duke is forced to call Air suppot. Rex was in the lab retrieving information when the air srike arrived ahead of time and could not make it our of the lab. As far as Duke knows Rex died. His main mission is to capture Cobra Commander.

Hawk: is American and is G.I. Joe's leader. He is always ahead of the pack when G.I. Joe go into battle. Their is mentioned of General Flagg being impressed by Hawk. It is said Hawk suffer a major injury by Storm Shadow, but recovers.

Cobra Commander: was once a Promising Army Scientist. He was rescued by Destro after the bombing of the lab he was in and is MARS top scientist. He seeks revenge on Duke. He is a specialist in Nanomites and takes control of Destro and Mars thanks to the brainwashing of nanomites. He names the organization Cobra and is the refered to as Cobra Commander.

Destro: is a decedent of the Mcmullen clan and owner of Mars industry who is the largest supplier of weapons and technology to NATO and G.I. Joe. It is discovered he is building his own army using funds from both company and wants to take over the world. It is said Destro is Cobra Commanders right hand man, but he is resenst Cobra Commander and the only reason he does not turn is do to the nanomite mask he wears over his burned face.

Baroness: is American. She was Duke's fiance, she split up with Duke after Rex suppose Death. Destro and CC later capture the Baroness and using nanomites turn her evil. She becomes Destro right hand woman and carrys all his missions.

Storm Shadow: is Japanese and the son of ninja master. Met SE at the age of ten, kills the HardMaster for always favoring SE. Is an assassin. He is believed to be dead do to a battle him a SE have, but that is not confirmed. Until his death is proven he remain atop of G.I. Joe fugitive list.

Zartan: A Mater of Disguise and not an official member of Cobra. He is a mercenary who works for the highest bidder. While working for Mars he voluntarily submits himself to a nanomite experiment by the Doctor. There he is given the power to mimic any person in the planet to the point where he becomes identical in body form and voice. He can be anybody at anytime.[/spoil]

In general, Zartan’s a pretty interestingly vile character. So, depending on how he is used in a story, he can be fun to watch. That being said, in Zartan's few TROC scenes, Stuart Beattie does a good job of representing him as a greedy chameleon and literal backstabber.

I just wonder how much of a role Zartan will have in the sequel as …

[spoil]… he’s a dead man once Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow find out that he killed the Hard Master. If he is taken out when disguised as the President, this could spell trouble for them and possibly the Joe team.[/spoil]

[spoil]
G.I. Joe: Rise Of The Cobra's buzz hasn't been the greatest thing in the online universe. Our own El Guapo chased down a rumor the permeated the online film blogs last month that director Stephen Sommers was taken off the project, and the edit was being "fixed" because the film tested so horribly. That rumor was quashed as quickly as possible, since something that big needs multiple layers of verification; all sources claimed the rumor was just that: hearsay.

Now, as the film approaches its August 7th release, a new buzz has started to accumulate: the film ain't as bad as we thought.

Call me a cynic, but since the chances of me seeing this movie regardless of how good it is are pretty good, I'm still waiting to see for myself.

However, the G.I. Joe: Rise Of The Cobra crew announced today in an Australian press junket that the movie will get a sequel and the cast and director are locked in for next summer.

Our host Jabba, yes only in Australia could a host of a Press Conference of a major Hollywood movie be called Jabba, asked if the cast were locked in for a sequel. Director Sommers had hinted at it throughout the Conference and here is his answer.

"Yes they are!" the whole cast smile and nod their heads and make a lot of noise but amidst it all Sommers shouted "Next Summer!"

So there you have it: the cliffhanger-y parts at the end of Rise Of The Cobra are actually going to go somewhere.

Also at the press conference, someone asked Sommers about the rumor of his firing that alit the nets in June:

Sommers replied "Yes I have final cut, it was actually a surprise because I was in the editing room and I got a phone call from a friend checking if I had been fired and replaced, so I just kept editing. That's what's crazy about the internet because I have final cut and they couldn't throw me off if they wanted and clearly when you see the movie you'll realise how silly that was.Someone said 'It was the worst testing movie in Paramount's history' that's crap! When you see the movie you'll know it's false. It is discouraging though. If you took two seconds to look into it not only do I have final cut but as a director if I didn't have final cut, you'd have to really screw up a movie to get fired because once a director gets fired from a project the stigma attached to that movie... you're just dead."

Buzz-Kills are always interesting, especially when a film tries to dig itself out of a hole that previously had me putting my expectations for G.I. Joe in line with any Eddie Murphy movie of the past 5 years.

Does knowing that these characters and plots have a future persuade you to give this one a shot or has the PR damage been done?[/spoil]

ABOVE: Speaking of the sequel, Latino Review has some nominal info on the follow-up to TROC and Sommers’ reaction to the firing hoax.

UPDATE: Listen to four tracks of Alan Silvestri's score for the film here.

Thanks again, Thudercracker.

As others have commented, the sea battle looks as if it's from the Clone Wars series. I guess this that makes Dr. Lewis Plo Koon (or maybe Grand Moff Trachta).

The Snake Eye's car acrobatics looks surprisingly photorealistic.

haha. It's official. Team America: World Police was ahead of its time. This movie is what they were making fun of.

"It looks like 'kiss me, kiss me'"

Yeah, I know what you mean. However, as I stated before, I don't think parodies diminish the good movies they lampoon. Moreover, this movie (to its credit) isn’t overly seriously about itself. So, I don't think anyone involved would completely shun such comparisons. LOL at the puppet fight.

Couple more positive reviews, from IGN and IGN UK.

Also an interview with Stephen Sommers at Collider.com. Couple cool tidbits he mentions is that he likes the original Cobra Commander mirror mask and it probably will be used in a sequel and that Dr. Mindbender has a cameo in the film played by Kevin J. O'Conner. Brendan Fraiser also has a cameo part as Sgt. Stone.

Hisstank.com has also given it a positive grade. Review and spoiler Q&A thread here.
