Hopefully someone can take some really good pictures of the Obi-Wan TPM and Dooku FX sabers from Hasbro this time around.

Actually some interesting ForceFx photos were just released of Dooku's Saber and it's variant: Ventress w interlocking hilt.

Also some pricey shit from eFx featuring McQuarrie's Proto-Vader Helmet and GentleGiant Statues.

[s]There's new Indiana Jones as well, which looks incredible.[/s]

Death Star II Luke looks like the same arms as the awful TAC Jedi version? Those are shit.

Black Bespin Guard is ballin'. What the hell happened to the Rancor Keeper, by the way? Even the vintage version looks more like that guy than this thing.

This one got me excited. New SA Luke, R4-G9 mold Artoo with accurate silver dome and dirtied Ewok throne sculpt (hopefully) Threepio.

Ralph Mcquarrie signature two-packs:

Image

My favorites include Slave Leia with interchangeable legs, Hoth Luke Skywalker, Leesub, Ice Cream Man and Alien/Afro Bespin guards. Other figures (Malakili, Terminator Droid) deserve a 'WTF?' Death Star Luke is apparently impossible to get right:

Again I think Hasbro has overdone it with a mind-boggling glut of product in a non-movie year, but I guess that's a testament to how strong the line still is.

For me it's not a issue of there being too much but being able to find them.

www.jeditemplearchives.com has a awesome gallery up. Just click any image to embiggen - then use the hilts uptop to navigate back and forth.

Pretty much ever figure is a must have. For the comics line I'll only pickup the Trooper Packs.

It's too bad that the Star Wars figures can't look more like their actors/actresses. Hell at least for Star Trek they look extremely close to their actors/actresses and can tell who they are. For Star Wars half the time it's like, 'Huh, that's Luke or Obi-Wan?"

Star Wars can be hit or miss, but they are constantly improving. Just look at Hoth Luke's face above - it's the best Mark Hamill yet out of Hasbro. Another difficulty in collecting the line is how quickly characters are made obsolete. Collecting "scenes" or building dioramas can get goofy at times due to updated sculpts, repaints and untouched characters from 10 years ago. Take a look at AT-AT driver 1998, 2006 and 2009.

Also let's be honest. Star Trek 2009 is equivalent to Star Wars 1999.

One one hand, it irks me when figures are re-done. On the other, I'm excited to see changes and possibly a better version of a character. I know many people consider the VOTC Han to be one of the best SW figures ever. I dig him, but he's just too skinny (especially in the legs) and he looks more like the guy who gave young Indiana Jones his fedora than Han. The new "Death Star escape" version with the stupid snap-on armor looks like a better likeness and possibly has thicker legs? With the exception of the lack of standard belt, it looks like he's a step up from VOTC if the chest piece is removed. Of course, I have to get him. But I paid 10 bucks or whatever it was for his predecessor a couple years back and he's still not perfect. When will I buy the next Han?

The re-tooling also pisses me off. It's fine in some circumstances, but take the Death Star II Luke. It's just the God damned TAC Jedi Luke with a new torso (which looks like shit) and head. TAC Jedi Luke is a recently released figure (and hasn't it been repacked/tooled numerous times already?). In my opinion it's one of the worst-looking modern figures because of the ugly joints. This "new" figure is just a cheap re-tool and virtually the same figure without a retarded cloth towel. Flap down will look only slightly different. It shouldn't be the same figure. Luke wasn't dressed the same on the Death Star as he was on Tatooine. Sculpt. A new. Figure. It's the principle of the thing. Take into account this sloppy execution. I wish they would stop this. It gave us that horrible Bespin torture Han in TAC along with other horrors.

On the subject of Star Trek, the best ST figure likenesses were the Playmates figures from the 90's. However, those had weird joints and cartoon paintjobs. They put the newer larger-scale figures to shame though, in my opinion. That said, Star Wars likenesses are all over the place. Look at the pilot Luke above, looks just like Mark Hamill. The Ben Kenobi up there is also pretty good. That slave Leia frankly looks nothing like Carrie Fisher, but they've never gotten her quite right.

Edit: the new Star Trek movie figures are awful and not selling at all.

Okay good point there I won't argue with that one.

Very true, I still have my figures from back then but they do look better than the Star Wars line. Oh good god those do look hideous.

Those Indy figures have pretty much been proven to be a hoax. It's a damn shame too! The only positive thing that might come out of all this is to show Hasbro there are still people interested in those cancelled figures. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Those were some pretty awesome customs, especially Toht and the ghost. So somebody really went out of their way, right down to creating those little Hasbro product cards.

Some of the highlights of the SW figures were definitely the Jabba's palace aliens, Imperial scanning guy and unfortunately the ice cream maker guy, who should never have been made. He and the fattie dancer from last year (still widely available at your local stores) are now two of the best-made Star Wars figures ever, while other more important characters continue to get the shaft. We don't even have good versions of Bespin Han, Hoth Leia, Death Star II Luke, etc.

I've posted about how awesome the Diamond Ultimate Quarter Scale figures before. Below are some of the new ones from SDCC2009:

At 18"(46cm) tall - these behemoths are only $80 at ToysRUs and can be found online for $60 and under. (ToysRUs stores have 18" Maul on sale for $60.) The Sidious facial likeness isn't all that but even SideShow has likeness issues. These figures also feature button-activated movie dialog!

Those look pretty cool DP. I may have to pick those up. I agree Palpatine doesn't look anything like him, a shame really. The Maul and Vader look great though so does Han.

This fall is going to be expensive. The new BMF AT-ST, X-Wing, and Y-Wing.

The Dewback is must have although I'm not sure about the spread-eagle sitting position.

I saw the shadow squadron ARC-170 they want 80 bucks for it. 80. I can get a turbo tank for like 20 more.
