I remembered this guy's site. I had to do some searching through my Bookmarks/Favorites. He's got the trailers, music videos, and I think most of the TV spots. He has other stuff as well. It looks like stuff from television like Lucas on 60 Minutes, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, etc. It's all that kind of stuff.

Unfortunately, he has none of Lynne's Diaries for Episode I. He doesn't have the Making of Docs for Episode II or III either. I remember those from Episode I being really small and pretty useless at the official site. It wasn't until Episode II that they were good-sized and worth saving. We couldn't even save those either until we started doing those steps where you copy the URL into QuickTime, enable tracks/delete tracks, etc.

Hade, that site is an awesome find. Episode I had an amazing marketing campaign. You gotta love that 320x240 teaser! I remember downloading it on a 56k modem. My favorite is Qui-Gon's epic tone poem.

Some of the poems and the trailers can be ripped from the DVD if higher resolution is needed.

Yes, a few days ago I ripped the Episode I DVD Bonus Disc trailers, tone poems, documentaries, and deleted scenes to .MPG's. That site is awesome as fuck though for hosting all of that.

Anyway, my ripped videos will be uploaded in the event a few of you want to download them and as a "fuck you" to the official site for taking all of that stuff down and replacing it with flash. :funkyvflamethrower:

Damn, ten years already. Doesn't seem like it though. 1999 was such a fun year, the film still takes a lot of heat years later but I liked it in 99 and still like it today. Shame that the anniversary seems like it's going to go by without much fanfare from LFL.

Sucks that most of the old content is gone from the official site. All that stuff was great. Are all the movie specific photo galleries gone too? The Episode I section had a large gallery of snapshots I always liked.

10 damn years all ready. You would think by now too they would have released a proper version of the score for it by now to commemorate the 10th Anniversary.

Anyways, if you want DP since the connection issues at home have been fixed now I can upload my complete intended edition of the score in the Prequel forum.

The build-up to this film was an epic adventure in and of itself: Lynne's Diaries on the website, the fast food tie-ins, Duel of the Fates, the soda cans, the toys. The teaser trailer that is absolutely perfect, opening slowly with that clouded swamp, then exploding with Johnny Williams' theme set over the podrace. I don't think the excitement and anticipation before this film can ever be repeated.

I saw it in '99 just once. I liked it, but after Episode II was released I sort of dismissed it as the necessary 'introduction film.' Looking at it now without critical opinion, I can only admire Lucas' fight to be entirely independent. He's not a sellout as some will say. He hasn't 'lost touch' with Star Wars. He has simply made a movie exactly as he wanted it. In his first Star Wars outline, the story is narrated by the padawaan to the revered Jedi-Bendu, Mace Windy. This is the story that Lucas has always wanted to tell. It's not about flat dialogue and Jar Jar's antics; it's about themes, and to appreciate those themes you have to look at Kurosawa's films, Joseph Campbell's analysis of mythology, the Republic serials of the 40s and 50s, and Lucas' mentality after the Vietnam War and dealing with the Hollywood system.

I love Episode I. I think it's a fantastic story. It's George Lucas' story, and it has been a blast to go along for the ride.

Maybe it was just because I was younger then, but "Phantom" was really the only one of the prequels that really felt like Star Wars (or SW as I had known it). I'm willing to acknowledge the fact that at face value a story revolving around trade disputes and fixing a spaceship seems silly, but for all the knocks against it, it felt right. TPM was a lot of fun.

TPM is pretty much what got me into Star Wars. I'd seen the trilogy a lot as a kid and thought they were cool movies but couldn't understand why some folks were so obsessed. After seeing TPM for the very first time, it totally clicked. How did things ever get so bad that Obi-Wan had to fuck Anakin up and throw his ass into a lava pit? How did the Emperor take over the Republic? What were the Jedi like in their prime?

Those were questions I always had after seeing the OT. TPM either answered or began answering all those questions.

Like everybody, I was blown away by the sheer volume of detail packed into just about every shot. Almost every single set up had some CG enhancement or some hidden detail that made an already cool shot even cooler.

When the gang made it to Coruscant, what was left of my mind was officially blown.

To me, action movies (and maybe filmmaking in general) fit into one of two categories.

01- Pre-TPM
02- Post-TPM

Lucas revolutionized filmmaking with ANH back in 1977. Then he did the same thing all over again with TPM in 1999.

The prequels rock!

Why I like the Prequels is due to the films being different than the Original Trilogy. Another reason is because of the collectibles.

A few weeks I ago I unzipped the dufflebag which stores my two Phantom StarShips. It's an extremely underrated vehicle and is on par with the Legacy Millennium Falcon. Features include a dual deck which expands outward to increase the playset area and an elevator. The nose even has a hidden removable ship not unlike The Battle Of The Planets Phoenix! The only negative are the weak sound effects.

Other favorites was the Pod Racers and Maul extendable lightsaber - though like a lot of my older collection, those has been junked to make room for today's modern and superior stuff (i.e. Plastic Maul Saber for Master Replicas etc). The StarShip is a keeper though.

I never figured out how to work the electronics on the Queen's ship and it would always make sounds on its own. I think the BMF is all around a better toy, it's the Falcon after all. However, the Queen's ship was really well designed for what it was. The droid elevator is badass and it has that feature on the Falcon. The cockpit is also more to scale than the Falcon's, maybe more spacious than the actual set.

I had the opportunity to buy the Starship for $50 during the Great Blowout of 2000 at Toys 'R' Us. I passed and bought up the $1.50 basic figures instead. It is a cool looking display piece though, and it is huge. Due to storage limitations I've been opening/selling some of my older stuff. The Droid Fighter trio is now chasing (hanging from the ceiling) Anakin's Podracer around my home.

Above is Hasbro.com's instructions area and the Starship's instructions. The 12" Darth Maul is what got me into 1/6 collecting and remember getting the preview Battledroid with STAP in the Fall of 1998.

I think this was the first image I saw of the new film. That and the first issue of the comic book while standing in a checkout line. I kept myself pretty spoiler-free. Duel of the Fates was the best surprise upon seeing the movie.

Now that we're in 2009, I can honestly say that for better or worse, TPM changed the blockbuster once again. If not for TPM we wouldn't get movies packed to the tits with special effects like there are now - in a lot of ways sacrificing story and character for razzle dazzle. So many movies look like the prequels these days that it's funny to think what might have been if the prequels never came along. I'd argue the blockbuster sure as hell wouldn't be as saturated with CGI. A lot of FX companies should pay royalties to GL for keeping them booming during this era.

What might be the best musical cue in the entire Episode 1 score doesn't even play during the film - during the end credits at the tail end of Anakin's theme when it blends into the Imperial March. That cue still gives me shivers.

JW was on his game during Episode 1...so much wasted brilliance.

The scores still disappoint me. I mean, they're good. Yes. But they also could have been much more if Williams had been given the time and the right motivations. While the Imperial March would have been tough to have to have left out due to its popularity, I think inevitably it would have been the right decision. I feel that Vader's theme being introduced in Empire was perfect. The theme first appears with his ascent to power. He's not just out hunting rebels and doing the Emperor's bidding, he's running shit. It's not in the original Star Wars, nor should it be. Nor should it have been in the prequels. That slight usage in TPM was perfect.

In AOTC, it was misused and in ROTS it was also overused. I enjoyed Williams tragic stuff from ROTS a hell of a lot more than the reprising of themes and moments from the old movies. "The Duel" when Yoda confronts the Emperor? I still hope that was never intended for that scene.

To commemorate next year's 3D theatrical release, next year Star Wars merchandise will feature Phantom Menace packaging. (Excluding the The Vintage Collection line which features newly sculpted figures). The post is going in this thread given the last time there were Episode I themed merchandise - which was infamous for it's glut of Jar Jar related products.
