The Super Bowl spot packed more of a punch obviously since it was our first glimpse but this one is just as cool. Can't wait to see the HD version so we can dissect it better. There was a report that said it might be online Monday.

Cool to see Scorponok return, I was hoping he hadn't been forgotten. People are saying the bot he's leaping toward is Jetfire. The shot of the Audi R8 bot is slightly extended in which the shape of one the Arcee bots can be seen a bit better behind him. The bot in the desert is The Fallen.

Just to clarify about Devastator, there's two sets. The $100 set which has vehicles that do not have individual robot modes but combine into Devastator. Then there's the individually sold components which include 4 Voyager figures and 2 deluxes figures. These figures transform into individual robot modes and vehicle modes but do not combine into Devastator. :(

I like the single figures but I'm not impressed at all with the larger non-transforming Devs. I guess they couldn't use the original Constructicon names either. Although the Voyager packing shows the Excavator as "Demolisher" but the combiner version says "Scvngr" on the side. :brow:

Looking through Tformers.com's coverage they say the names are: Rampage, Scavenger, Scrapper, Hightower, Long Haul, and Mix Master. So, Hook didn't get used and Bonecrusher was of course used in movie one. Good enough.

Do we have enough pictures in this thread. Enough of Devastator? Well the toy sites have been a slow all day. :jango:

Devastator is starting to grow on me. Although Devastator sorta looks like a evil bunny rabbit given the two raised flaps on top of it's head. :whatevaho:

Most images on this page have been replaced with high-res Hasbro promotional materials. The main issue with the Devastator toy is the face. Hasbro has been known to change toys from their convention debuts so here's hoping. Although I have to ask, from the leaked Devastator design to the toy - what happened? :?

The official HD trailer with HD sound was like viewing a brand new trailer. Demolisher spinning out and fucking shit up was :metal: :bouncin:

Few new toy images released today. The cheapo Fast Action Battler versions of Jetfire, Long Haul and Ratchet. And the Leader class version of Megatron.
sources: TF08.net and The-Arker

The bio on Jetfire pretty much clears up his faction allegiance issue. He's an ancient Decepticon that has chosen to fight with the Autobots.

The Long Haul design matches the early leaked concept art of him. That piece of concept art was actually done by a fan, Josh Nizzy and got used in the film which is cool. Long Haul's Bio is very similar to G1 Long Haul's personality.

And on the Megatron note, Robert Orci finally confirmed that Megatron is indeed in the film. Not that we needed much confirmation. Sadly Megs gets another crappy movie toy.

There were more than a few complaints over the chinese toy sites censoring the face along with the perceived slow leaking of toy images. Also for some reason, the studio had MTV remove the awesome Behind The Scenes HD video so I had to find a youtube substitute.

Anyway - Megatron's face has finally been revealed and it looks a little like Megatron O. G. Original Gangster if you squint a bit :brow:

TFW2005 says Hugo Weaving is confirmed for Megatron's voice. It's not like he had anything else going on.

In related news, Bay through his forum Shoot For The Edit admits Megatron is in the movie but claims he's only seen in the past and not in it long. And that he's not a tank, but some alien vehicle

If that's true, then who is pinning down Shia on the car? sounds more like a misinfo campaign that only he is sticking to.

That is very good news. I had wondered if they brought Weaving back to do Megatron's voice.

I think he's mis-leading people on too. Unless that's "Fallen" pinning Shia down on the car. I guess we'll find out eventually.

HOLLYWOOD -- Paramount and DreamWorks are forging ahead with "Transformers 3," dating the movie for release on July 1, 2011.

It's the first word of the three-quel, although Paramount insiders downplayed the importance of the move.

They said the studio wanted to claim the date before a competitor did, considering that the 2011 summer release calendar is filling up. No deals have been inked with director Michael Bay or franchise stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. Nor has a writer been hired for the third installment.

The big-budget franchise has fast tried to claim the July Fourth holiday frame as its own. "Transformers" opened on July 3, 2007; "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" bows on June 24, 2009, one week before the holiday. So far, "Transformers 3" has no direct competition on its July 1, 2011, date.

Paramount also moved up the release of Marvel Entertainment's "Thor" from June 16, 2011, to May 20, 2011, on behalf of Marvel Entertainment, which is producing and financing the superhero pic.

That shift comes less than one week after Marvel said it was pushing back the release of "Thor" by a year, from July 16, 2010, to June 16, 2011. Marvel was criticized by some for scheduling "Thor" and "The First Avenger: Captain America" so close together. "Captain America" opens July 22, 2011.

Michael Bay:

:v: [sup]/ I said I was taking off a year from Transformers. Paramount made a mistake in dating Transformers 3 - they asked me on the phone - I said yes to July 4 - but for 2012 - whoops! Not 2011!!! That would mean I would have to start prep in September. No way. My brain needs a break from fighting robots.[/sup]

Hey Bob, what are your feelings towards the idea of Leonard Nimoy doing the voice of the Fallen?

- Would love it. I actually talked to him about it, given the odd coincidence that he is Michael Bay's cousin through marriage, but fan outcry has also put [Frank] Welker in the running.

- Additionally, in Revenge of the Fallen, the only reason that returning big bad Megatron is not renamed Galvatron was for the sake of the general audience.

On the subject of the original film, Bob revealed a few of the trials and tribulations that went on behind the scenes -

Movie 1 was the hardest thing they have ever worked on. Period. Nobody could imagine what it was, everyone thought it was just a silly cartoon or a toy commercial, the studio wasn't sure if the robots should talk, we had to come up with a story that would attract someone like Bay, and we had budgetary constraints that made it necessary to generate a significant human story which was counterintuitive to some Transfans. By the second movie, the paradigm of the franchise was clear.

It'd be pretty cool to hear Nimoy again in Transformers. I thought he was awesome as the voice of Galvatron in the 86 movie.

Yeah Nimoy would be awesome as The Fallen for nostaglia's sake. The news that Megatron was going to be Galvatron in ROTF is interesting. Regarding the [s]Star[/s]JetFire toy - the face sorta looks like the comics version of The Fallen or even Micronaut's Baron Karza. Also not sure what to make of the cane accessorie. :brow:

Jetfire also looks like :ktulu:

The Transformers comic Alliance #04 - which is a tie-in to ROTF - was released today had some movie spoilers:

[hr]
• The company McClaren Robotics is a government front/cover for arriving at Transformers battle scenes and cleaning up any evidence of an alien presense at the scene. The only previous mention of McClaren Robotics was that actor Steve Tom was cast as McClaren Robotics CEO.

• An AllSpark fragment is seen in a government storage facility. The storage containment unit looks very much like the containment unit seen in promo pictures.

Image

• In the issue, the Autobots discover that several Autobots have received the beacon call Optimus made at the end of the first movie. Five new Transformers are revealed in their vehicle modes: the Centennial Corvette (Sideswipe), three motorcycles (the Arcee bikes), and the Ice Cream truck.

• On the final page, the Autobots and human llies are in a dark command center as Optimus calls for the team to head out to Shanghai. Seen on the monitor is Demolishor. Although not all details can be made out due to the room being dark, one can clearly see Sideswipe and two of the motorcycles in their individual robot modes.

Toy packaging for Chromia (one of the motorcyle fembots) revealed:
source: TF08.net

ImageImageImage

The name for the blue motorcyle, "CHROMIA" was revealed a couple weeks ago but this is the first image of the toy packaging and her bio. One of the rumors was that the three cycles combined into one robot but the card back for Chromia makes no mention of any combining gimmick with the other two cycles. According to her bio, this Chromia is also "friends" with Ironhide which is a nice nod to the G1 cartoon in which the characters were also romantically linked.

It'd be cool if the third cycle turns out to be named ELITA-1.

:schoolyou: In the G1 episode, "The Search for Alpha Trion" there were four female Autobots. Elita-1, Chromia, Moonracer and Firestar.

[align=left]After "Transformers" hit theaters in 2007, Michael Bay spoofed himself in a Verizon FiOS commercial, proclaiming, "I demand things to be awesome!" and proving it by flaunting his "awesome pussycat" (a tiger) and awesome (exploding) barbecue grill. Turns out the helmer was only half-kidding. Just ask the visual effects studios on "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," who have their hands full keeping up with Bay's itch for excess. "He's brilliant, but he's a challenge," says Matthew Butler, Digital Domain's vfx supervisor on the film. Not only is Bay demanding, as top directors generally are, but "he's incredibly fast-paced. He's a whirlwind to keep up with, both on the set and in post."

Scott Farrar of Industrial Light and Magic, lead vfx supervisor on both "Transformers" films, sounds somewhat awestruck as he compares the sequel to its predecessor. "Michael took the production value up many, many notches," he says. "Just the backgrounds alone are huge. It's a combination of 'Apocalypse Now' and 'Ben-Hur,' in regards to fantastic backgrounds and the unbelievable sets we worked at around the world."

Everyone involved in "Revenge of the Fallen" is keeping the details under wraps, but Farrar says there are some 60 robot characters, and they play in settings around the world. Some, like refineries at night, were chosen to boost the visual drama and show off the scale of the giant 'bots.

What's more, this time the Transformers will interact much more with the world around them. Farrar highlights "the splashes and the hits and the fighting on dirt or moving, banging into trees," explaining, "Things splinter and break, they spit, they outgas, they sweat, they snort." ILM, having developed the vfx for the first "Transformers," is the lead shop on this one as well. But Bay is part owner of Digital Domain, which presents some unusual challenges for Butler and the DD team.

For Bay, co-owning the company puts him in a potential conflict of interest. The director always wants the best for his movie and usually asks for as much as possible from the vfx shop. The owner of a vfx shop, on the other hand, has to keep an eye on costs and margins. Butler says Bay is remarkably good at balancing those roles: "Michael is very fiscally responsible. a director but he's very much a producer too. In fact, whenever we're talking about any shot or sequence, he's thinking about what it costs, and he's thinking about bang for the buck."

One new challenge is that several sequences will be shown in Imax format, approximately 16 times larger than 35mm, which means the CG work must be finished at much higher resolution. At that scale, it can take several days to render a final frame. All this is on top of creating a new family of giant robots. "(Bay) had to learn a whole litany of new things by getting into this robot culture on the first film," Farrar says. "I don't think he'd ever worked on a film where he'd done so much directing of animated characters. So he's really taken it to heart, and I think not everybody does, but he actually enjoys the process."

USA Today has a new article up with some new robot tidbits. New shot of Ravage and a new little Decepticon called the Doctor (actually called Scalpel). Yahoo Movies also has an article revealing some of the Transformer cast.

[hr]
Image

Ravage & Soundwave - "In the spirit of 'more than meets the eye,' Ravage isn't just lethal because of his sharp teeth," says screenwriter Alex Kurtzman. "There's actually another skill set Ravage has that didn't exist before, so there's going to be a surprise for fans." ...his role will be similar to the 1980s cartoon and Hasbro toy — the ultimate spy.

Ravage doesn't turn into anything. But Soundwave will appear, again serving as an evil communications expert but this time in the form of an orbiting space satellite.

And Ravage, as before, won't speak like the other Transformers. "We wanted to stay true to the idea that Decepticons who take visual clues from beasts maintain that," says Orci. "It would be strange to have a talking jaguar, or a scorpion with an English accent."

Image

Insecticons - "We have big guys, some little guys. We have a lot of littler ones, too. Little weirder ones," Bay says. Like the Insecticons, which were giant bugs in the original series and Hasbro toy line, but are now tiny creepy-crawly infiltrators.

Jetfire - As in the original, this fighter plane crash-landed on Earth a long time ago, and he will become a reformed Decepticon now fighting for the humans. His alternate form is the SR-71 Blackbird, the outdated but still-sleek Cold War spy plane. "He's old, craggy, forgetful ... doesn't work very well. Can't transform very well, because he's very geriatric. They get stuck with him a lot," Bay says. "He knows the plan of the bad guys, but he forgets all the good parts of the plan."

The Twins - "Some of the junior Transformers are just dumb," Bay says with a laugh. "But it's great for kids because they're like the Little Engine That Could. They're (screw)-ups, but they get really heroic at the end."

Arcee - The only female and turns up as Megan Fox's hot-pink motorcycle. Co-screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci say she was in an early draft of the first movie. "But we felt we needed to win the audience over before asking for that suspension of disbelief: a feminine alien robot," Kurtzman says.

The Fallen - An ancient robot, sort of the Transformers' version of Lucifer. He's one of the original robot aliens, and his defiance and arrogance led to his banishment into another dimension. The screenwriters say that The Fallen holds the key to life on both Earth and Cybertron, the Transformers' home planet.

The Doctor - A smaller, but no less malevolent Decepticon is known as The Doctor — a spider-like droid that transforms into various implements of torture and has a not-so-nice encounter with star Shia LaBeouf.

Devastator - These seven robots — Scavenger, Scrapper, Hightower, Longhaul, Rampage, Overload and Mixmaster — transform into construction machinery, but also link up with one another to form one gigantic robot stomper named Devastator. "He's made of vehicles designed to build, and he turns into is someone who loves to destroy," Orci says. "He is an agent of absolute chaos."

"Spielberg saw it and said, 'This is (expletive) awesome!' " Bay says, and adds: "It's always nice when you can make him swear."

Coincidently the toy for Scalpel/The Doctor was also revealed today:

Spielberg's reaction to devastator tells me the scene where they (the constructicons) combine is going to make me shoot my load.

In the MTV video, Bay reveals details about femmebot Arcee. QUOTE: Bay also shot down the long-simmering rumor that Fox will be seen riding Arcee and doing some female bonding with the character. "No," he insisted. "She has nothing to do with Megan."

Arcee & ROTF:

[align=left]You know what? I didn't like Arcee," the filmmaker revealed exclusively to us Thursday night, "so I kill her later, all right?"

"You know what? It's like actors," he explained, comparing his Transformers to flesh-and-blood stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. "There are certain actors that blossom on screen, and there are certain others where you're like, 'Yuck, I'm cutting them out of the movie.'"

"This isn't sad," he grinned, discussing Arcee's sudden death. "This is just 'get it out and get it over with.' "

Again Devastator looks awesome in CGI but in toy form no so much. Bay speaks of Devastator in IMAX in this MTV video and shooting boneriffic sequences of Megan Fox for 15 year old boys.

[align=left]DEVASTATOR

"You will see Devastator in IMAX," Bay said of the massive Decepticon, glimpsed in the trailer and formed when several Decepticons come together. "You heard it here first."

"[Several scenes] are going to be on IMAX, which is awesome," Bay explained. "Some of our main scenes were shot with IMAX cameras, so the screen will pop wide [if you see the film in an IMAX theater]. It's the first movie to do serious digital effects in IMAX quality."

MEGAN FOX

And if the thought of Devastator in IMAX doesn't have you already setting aside 10 bucks for a "Revenge of the Fallen" ticket, we also asked Bay about his other eye-popping special effect: Megan Fox.

"[Wait until you see] the very first shot in the movie," he replied when we asked whether Megan gets a moment as memorable as her hood-opening flirtation with Bay's lingering camera in the first film. "You'll see."

"It's better," he said of Fox's sexy re-introduction in the sequel. "[While filming] I was at a gas station buying ice cream bars, and these 15-year-old boys were looking at me. They were like, 'You're that dude that directed "Transformers"!' And I'm like, 'Yeah. Do you want to see "Transformers 2"? They were like, 'Yeah!' "

"I said, 'Why do you want to see it?' And together, in unison, they said, 'The hot chick!' " Michael Bay laughed. "It will be a good shot for them."

Bay's IMAX comments sorta comes off as Devastator will only be seen in IMAX. :funkyvfuckoff:

Na, I think he's too important to JUST be in IMAX.

Yeah, they'll probably just crop those shots for 35mm although it'll be interesting to see if the resolution of the effects is compromised by the re-framing.

Spoilers concerning the background about The Fallen and the Allspark revealed in Revenge of the Fallen Prequel Comic Defiance #4:
source: TFW2005

[spoil]
[align=left]
• The AllSpark still has unknown origins, but its power created The Fallen's race.
That race was born on what appears to be a terrestrial planet.

• The Fallen's race determined that the AllSpark's power in not unlimited and must be replenished.

• They discovered that energy from a sun can be harvested to replenish the AllSpark.
While the AllSpark's power is replenished, the sun dies.

• The AllSpark begins to change the race's terrestrial planet into a metallic planet.

• The Allspark provides the first Transformers to the race, to act as their workers who will locate suns and build the needed sun harvesters.

• The Fallen gets greedy and wants the power of the AllSpark for himself.
He attempts to betray all of his "brothers" while another sun harvester is being built on another terrestrial planet.

• The Fallen's brothers apparently are onto his plan.
They have trapped themselves in sarcophagus and do the same with The Fallen.

• Following the trap, a pyramid is being built around the sun harvester to hide it.

• As seen with the previous movie-universe comics, Optimus Prime sent the AllSpark into space to avoid it falling into Megatron's hands.

• The reason the AllSpark landed on Earth is because the AllSpark will detect and head towards sun harvesters.

• In Defiance, Megatron is turned evil and forms the Decepticons by the influence of The Fallen (who is trapped in the recovered sarcophagus).
Towards the end, The Fallen continues to push Megatron to locate the AllSpark which in turn would help him to locate the harvester. Repowering the AllSpark will free The Fallen from his sarcophagus.

Also, TFW2005 has posted a bunch of photos for the Mixmaster toy (vehicle mode only so far). Looks very nice, seems to be a Voyager size class toy like Demolishor.
