I caught a screening of Pineapple Express yesterday, the latest offering from the Apatow/Rogen crew. If you like Apatow/Rogen then you should love this movie. If you don't, then you probably won't like it unless you know a drug dealer and you love violence. This was seriously one of the most violent comedies I have ever seen. Pretty gruesome too. A guy gets his foot blown off, another guy gets his ear shot off and there are countless other shootings and stabbings. Someone even gets stabbed with a fork.
The basic plot is that Seth Rogen is a process server who loves to smoke weed. His dealer is played by James Franco. James Franco's character gets his hands on some weed that just happens to be some of the rarest weed in the country. So rare, that it can be tracked to him. Well, Seth Rogen is about to serve process on James Franco's source for the weed when he witnesses the source killing some other guy. He freaks out and the source sees that he witnessed the murder. In a moment of panic (because there is a cop there who is involved with the source), Seth Rogen's character throws his joint out the window, which is made from that rare Pineapple Express weed. After Seth Rogen's character escapes, naturally the source of the Pineapple Express weed finds the joint and is able to track it to James Franco's dealer who then tells the source he sold it to James Franco's character. So the movie is basically Seth Rogen and James Franco trying to escape from this psychopathic drug boss who is out to kill them.
My wife and I both enjoyed the movie a lot. We are fans of the Apatow/Rogen films and this one lived up to their previous offerings.
