Yeah, I'm a MGS geek I can't wait for this! I'm still waiting until this comes out to buy a PS3, hopefully they'll drop another $100 off by then. At least MPO+ comes out sometime in November to lessen the wait for MGS4.

Some guy over at the Gamefaqs board has gotten a promotional copy of the game and has started to post screens & spoilers. I've been relatively unspoiled for this game and I don't want to ruin anything for myself, but it's going to be tough avoiding the MB's for two weeks.

the return of Big Boss, and going back to Shadow Moses Island, Liquid after a satellite nuke

it's going to be a HUGE game. It requires a 4 GIG installation just to play it. And there are reported 2 cutscenes that are 90 minutes long!! Too bad i'll never play it. I have the other 3 and it really kills me that I can't play this one because of the cost but at least there's youtube. someone will post the whole game there like the others soon enough.

i just downloaded 3 and 4's soundtracks, they're fantastic. I updated my avatar for the occasion :heavymetal:

here's a link to a huge breakdown on the game over at GAF forums.

Hey bearvomit,

Does the TAPPY MGS theme make an appearance in the score for the new game? I've heard rumblings that it didn't make the cut because of the plagiarism accusations, but I'm kinda hoping they threw it in there, being the last game n' all. Nothing gets me pumped for MGS like the theme playing on surround sound while I break a guard's neck. Here's hoping.

if you're talking about the theme from MGS2 and partially in 3, then no, it's not.

Story Spoilers
[spoil]
ultimately, the main villian is Major Zero from MGS3. He is the mastermind of the Patriots and has manipulated Snake from the very beginning. ocelot, and also Liquid, have been trying to stop the patriots from the start. Big Boss started the Patriots with Zero but had a falling out after learning that Zero started the Les Enfants Terribles project, cloning Big Boss. EVA was the surrogate mother to Snake, Liquid and Solidus.

Big Boss then created outer Heaven to escape the Patriots control. Zero creates the AI's to take his place once he's dead, to cotrol the world. Snake stops the AI's with a computer virus created by the little girl Sunny. Liquid thinks he's found Big Boss' body but it ends up being Solidus' and it gets burned.

Big Boss does appear at the end, he wakes up from a coma after the AI's have been destroyed. He breaths in the Foxdie virus that Snake is carrying and dies. Liquid dies but snake lives at the end!

Damn, it's a good thing I've been without net access for a week otherwise I might have been tempted to read the spoilers. But I'm not gonna ruin it now so close to the release. 3 more days.

Just finished my first play session (about 5 hours). Fucking awesome is all I got to say. The gameplay with the new control scheme is a lot of fun and the warzone aspect is very tense and makes for a lot of great gunplay. Haven't gotten too far into the story yet but I'm really enjoying it so far.

I picked this up last night. I only got to play for 45 minutes but I have to say very nice game. Playing the games on Playstation 2 back in the day I never really cared about staying in the shadows and being out of sight. This game however makes your heart pound when you are 5 feet away from an enemy, hiding behind a box. Very cool.

Anyone hear about TAPPY's suspected plagarism of Georgy Vasilevich Sviridov's 'The Winter Road/Snowstorm Concerto' for MGS's original theme? You can see a video of people showing the song to Hideo Kojima (followed by the uncomfortable laughter of embarrassment) here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTcNUoxCmHI

Here are the main titles of MGS2 featuring the original theme:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkX39ayb ... re=related

This explains why the original theme is nowhere to be found in the new game. By including the theme, Hideo Kojima is promoting plagarism. Imagine how it must feel to find out that a musical contribution that defines your life's work was stolen, like if you were to find out that John Williams had taken the Star Wars Main Titles (Luke's Theme) from a play he had seen and all future releases would have the song omitted (you can joke about the Gustav Holst - The Planets connection, but none of the music contained in the film were exact motifs stolen from their inspiration). An interesting story overall.
