Hmm, very interesting. I hope they have a good story line though. I love the Terminator films and can't wait to see what they do with this one.

After these are released, James Cameron should re-release Terminator 1 and 2 and replace the old John Conner with Bale's face and tell everyone that's how he had planned it all along!

That is completely, 100% awesome news and almost makes this film worth seeing in and of itself. But the current info is that Schwarzenegger will not be in it, and Terminator without the Terminator is not much of a selling point.

Though to be critical of my last statement, the pilot episode of the Sarah Connor Chronicles looks to have potential.

If they put the OG terminator exo in there, it will be close enough for me. I think the Governators presence isn't really required if they do this right.

you just know there's going to be an Arnold cameo in this thing! It'll be shot in secret for sure but it'll be there!

That's a nice rumor. Hopefully they don't mess it up by casting someone dumb as the new baddie.

I'm firmly in that camp, which is why I'm hoping that T4 redeems the Terminator franchise.

Blew ass is kind of strong, but it was inferior to the first two. Considering there was no Cameron involvement, well, I felt it could have been worse. The thing that really seemed to bother fans was Skynet turning out to be software.

I actually "kind of" enjoyed T3. Parts of it bugged me. There were a few eye-roll moments in it, but on the whole, I thought it worked. It seemed like an odd disconnect from the first two, and the obviously different John Conner threw me off the first couple of times I watched it. But, in an strange way, I liked him better than Eddie Furlong. The 'skynet as software' bit seemed kind of like a dumb explination that wasn't required, for a story scenario I must have missed. I still think whoever tacked that on the end was trying to make some kind of self righteous point that only they really understood. "There was no system core". Yeah, so fucking what?!? I don't get it.

Overall, the action was acceptable, the performances were solid, the fx were great. It just seemed kind of odd. Arnold was looking kind of old, and Claire Danes is homely. And the chick terminator should have been naked through the entire film. Hot damn. Then it would have been great.

Oh, and John Conner smashing the only modern-ish computer in the bunker out of namby pamby frustration makes me yell at the screen everytime I see it.

I didn't think it was cinematic magic, but it had some really great "terminator" moments and I really loved the whole graveyard sequence it was fantastic that and the "twist" at the end of the film was a really nice bookend into the first two films, I don't know if a fourth is necessary but it'll certainly be a fun ride, and they can't fuck it up nearly as much as they've fucked up the Aliens franchise.

So bring it on! Especially with Bale.

yeah, no shit! T3 is good, but that's all. just good. it had some really crappy moments like the beginning when Arnold gets his clothes and they make a big fucking joke out of it. He's not the Faganator, dammit! Show some respect for the character.

It really was just a re-hash of T2, with a good ending. It was unnecessary and didn't propel the plot far enough to warrant itself being made. Bring on Bale and a fresh start.

I like T3 for what it is anyway.

However, The guy who played John Connor Does he ever close his slack jawed, monkey-mouth? I mean seriously. Watch this film. His mouth is always slack, with this huge swollen tounge not knowing what to do with itself. He looks like a cocnut chewing babbon. Close your mouth, Monkey boy! He especially looks lame in the future, atop the car shots.

I don't buy him as the savior of the future for a fucking minute.

uh oh. not good news coming from CHUD

When Ain't It Cool broke the story that Christian Bale was in Terminator 4, playing John Connor, one of my sources became confused. That couldn't be true, I was told - John Connor is barely in the movie. Turns out that it's true, and that yes, John Connor is barely in the movie. Over the last week I have been gathering some details about Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, and while I am trying to steer clear of serious spoiler material, people who don't want to know anything about this movie should step away from the computer right now.

John Connor is not the main character of Terminator 4; that character is someone named Marcus. Marcus was put 'out of commission' before the nuclear holocaust on Judgment Day and he wakes up about 15 years before the future we see in the original Terminator films, which puts the movie at about 2015 or so. Marcus is a bad ass - think along the lines of Riddick - and what he finds is a blasted world filled with horror. Radiation poisoning, starvation, rampant jaywalking - all the things you expect post-apocalypse. There's also John Connor, who is trying to build a utopian society while running the human resistance.

Connor's role is apparently bigger in the second film; whoever they hire for Marcus (my understanding is that the part is not yet cast) will be around for all three films. Terminator 4 is going to be the most male-centric of all the Terminator films, but there is a butt busting female character by the name of Blair, a pilot for the human resistance.

They're going to need some buttkickers, because the scope of the action in Terminator 4 is HUGE. Lots of machine action in this film, including some battles with the T-600s. Yup, the rubber skin Terminators. And there's another familiar character that shows up - Reese shows up in a scene with John Connor. I don't know what his involvement in the next two films will be, though.

Finally, here's a story point that's probably a legitimate spoiler (although it's sort of the main crux around which the story revolves, so it will probably get blown in the advertising), so I'll invisotext this stuff: A big aspect of the story is the degrees of difference between a human and a Terminator. By which I mean cyborgs. By which I mean human brains in robot bodies.

I've gathered this info from a number of different sources, and while they all have different takes on the material (all mostly positive, with one of my sources saying that the story is great and that the action promises to be incredible), they all bring up one point of comparison: The Matrix films. Make of that what you will. For me, the information I've gotten - including really spoilery stuff I won't inflict on you - has gotten me jazzed. This film feels like it could be epic and erase the taste of the workmanlike T3 from my mouth. Let's hope McG can pull this off.

Was just over at aint it cool and came across something that would surely piss off alot of terminator fans, they are aiming for a PG-13 RATING. I mean COME ON! 1st they screwed it up wit AVP1 with a PG-13 rating (mind you the 2nd wasnt all that great either), Die Hard 4 as well and now Terminator. You would think people would learn no? didnt think so.

Oh for the love of fuck.

Herrrrrrrrreeee we gooooo.

And what a way to spin their shill. It's all about a dim-witted decision to attract "younger age demographics that otherwise would not be able to enjoy the on-screen carnage previously available only to those adults that work their asses off all day in order to see said carnage plus uncensored swearing, and the added benefit and monetary windfall of merchandising through, of all titles, Playmates?!" Folks. Now, before you all label me as someone that has a problem with merchandising, think again. I love good merchandising. What I don't love is corporate mongers like these attaching "more family friendly" ratings to a franchise like Terminator in order to sell more merchandise to the kiddies.

Fuck the kiddies. Let them wait it out like everyone else did till age 17 ( and really, does anyone even care that under 17 year olds see R movies anymore?) and see it in the more appropriate R rating.

Oh, and yes, lets compare it to the wonderment that was Live free or die hard. An otherwise decent (if not overkill attempt without the first three's original spirit and attack) installment that was so dumbed down, we couldn't even here Brucey give his trademark tag. And before someone chimes in saying, "Yes he did, he said Yippie-etc, no he didn't. It was muffled by the gun discharge.)

No barrage of body hits from Mclane's gun. No excessive spatter of blood. All insinuated graphic gore. Please.

And, The TERMINATOR??? Are you fucking kidding me??!!! Just so we can now pen a deal with PLAYMATES? Is anybody else just fucking throwing their popcorn out the window here? I am so sick to fucking death of the Moral Majority (including the Ex-Yuppie, comb-over Mouth Breathers that run Hollywierd and what was once a somewhat respectable, imaginative and ballsy industry) laying wast to my Adult entertainment by dumbing it down for their Mouth Breathing Offspring. Hass anyone even considered the fact that one of the reasons people like myself go to the few movies I do, is because with the adult content undeterred by a pg-13 ( Indy 4 will be the exception as it's always been pg-13 since TOD, and I expect kids there) I can enjoy my movie going experience without some idiot tween-agers making a ruckus, acting obnoxious, and yelling at the screen ( or for that matter talki9ng through the movie) or indulging in other generally undesirable, adolescent practices I find displeasing to the ears.

So, now we get to see the new Terminator sans the edge it's always had. Fuck you MPAA. And if you really want to see how fucked up retarded these people are, I suggest you rent, "For your Consideration."

On a final note. I recently went to a screening at the Ziegfeld Theatre here in New York for the Spielberg classics festival. One of the films showing, and that i really wanted to see, was E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. And see it I did. Now, without getting into a further rant on Stevo's bullshit watering down there of THAT film to become more "Family (and retarded) friendly", I will say this. For those moments still intact from the original film's release ( I.E> They still had guns and Ultra-Milf Dee Wallace still had her line, "They're just children", and Mike was still dressed as a "Terrorist"-God I love you Stevie, but the fact that you make these Pussy based "adjustments" to your masterpieces in pop-culture really make me want to examine what happened to your Balls-Your penchant for being a little too hard on people in the biz that make mistakes in your path doesn't make it easier to forgive your idiocy as a film maker sometimes either. But we can talk about all that someday after I win my Oscar for best Motion Picture.), I was able to notice a young boy of 8 to my far left past my Girlfriend, sitting with his family. He was on the edge of his seat. literally, experiencing what I experienced when I was his age while watching E.T. And I enjoyed watching him every so often experiencing something so magical, and in the appropriate arena. A Family friendly film where he had every right to come and be enthralled, forming memories that will be carried throughout his lifetime.

That was his special moment, with HIS movie.

MPAA, Stop mucking with my special moments, blood laden and profanity laced as they may be, at mine.

Allthough, I agree with most of that. I will probably still see it, but my expectations have just sank a little further. Who knows, it might still be good. Too early to tell. This isn't good news, though.

Hate to break it to you NYA, but the MPAA doesn't force anyone to aim for a PG-13 rating. If you want to know who to blame, you should blame the studios who water down the movies.

Yes,

I think I know that. But it's because of this arcane ratings board that we have otherwise only moderately retarded movie makers becoming totally retarded, BY dumbing down their movies.

Savvy?

well technically, you can thank Steven Speilberg for that PG-13 thing too. It was his two movies, Poltergeist and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom that caused the parents to have a fit at what little Johnny was being allowed to view in the movie theater while mom went outside to  .

They're just trying to please everyone while in the end pleasing no one.

And I'll just make a prediction now for what we'll be seeing in said movie: a million lasers being fired that hit no one. endoskeleton vs endoskeleton action (i.e. no blood) no sex, no "FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKING MACHINE !" and no breasts that swell up in their shirts for no real reason. and oh yeah, http://www.aintitcool.com/node/36633 says they just cast rapper "Common" in this as well. :whatevaho:

But now look what we got, a PG-13 rating and some gay ass rapper, man id be cut if had his own personal rap song is in the end credits. SERIOUSLY WTF!!!!! Bet you Bale will jump boat 1st chance he gets with this movie.

Not from me (yet), I swears it. NYA may be a bit of a ranter, but I giggled a bit at the ear fucking part. The similarities in premature angst, however, are there. But he hasn't gone all "Long and Sunny" just yet.

He will have to start bashing it when pics and clips and spoilers come out showing a fantastic movie, despite his predictions of doom, and then pin his refusal to take part in the mediochre fun on a shittly written and meandering review that makes little sense.

There's no fate but what we make. The future's not set. But the future of the Terminator franchise just perplexes me. I could've sworn the second flick was a conclusion to the story, but whatever. I don't know how the hell I made it through T3. It was probably the prospect of seeing more female Terminator nudity. Anyway I find I have no interest in this film at this point in time.

Charlotte Gainsbourg was just cast as Kate Connor.

And here's an oficial plot summary released by WB:

[hr]
In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row.

Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

uummm. HUGE spoiler from CHUD and AICN apparently. Read at own risk. Will ruin the ending for ya:

[spoil]
[align=left]

[hr]
source: CHUD

Moriarty at Aint It Cool News has just run a MAJOR spoiler for the ending of Terminator 4, one that, if you read it, will ruin the movie for you. And to the best of my knowledge it is 100% true.

What follows is spoilers.

Back when I broke the story about Marcus, the new major character, I knew that he was a cyborg - human brain with a robot body (Mori's source indicates there's more human to him than just brain, but brain is what I heard). I knew that he was a death row inmate. I knew that he was from the past. I kept that close to the vest in the interest of not dropping huge spoilers.

The rest of Mori's spoiler - about the fate of Christian Bale's John Connor - is stuff that I cannot confirm as solidly as Marcus the cyborg, but is what I had come to believe after talking to multiple sources. You may remember that I ran with the story that Bale would be playing a Terminator... well, I was sort of right.
The confusion arose from the fact that by the end of the film, Connor is dead and Marcus, the cyborg Terminator, is impersonating him. This all leads into the thematic ground I told you about, the question of what makes someone a human.

Again, I can't confirm that last part completely, but it gibes with everything I have heard from multiple sources. I wasn't sure if that aspect was changing after the writer's strike - Connor's role has been beefed up considerably since I first got my information - but assuming that Moriarty's source is talking about the latest drafts (and be aware that he could be talking about the same drafts I was talking about six or seven months ago, which may be very outdated at this point), this spoiler is right on the money.

I'm actually in New Mexico right now, probably not far from the T4 set; what I wouldn't give to be on that stage and listening to how McG and his producers are handling this. This is the Luke's father of Terminator 4, that's for sure. Moriarty just gave this film a real kick in the balls.

[hr]

[hr]
source: AICN

"Alright so the main character is a cyborg named Marcus. For some background, Marcus was a criminal who was executed in 2003. He donated his body to Project Angel which was involved with SkyNet. They take his body and make a terminator out of him so he's a terminator skeleton but has living muscle/skin and a beating heart too.

At the end of the movie John Connor is fighting a T800 model 101 and loses. He dies and the top resistance people come up with a plan to help the resistance keep fighting on.
The resistance feels that it's important to keep the image or idea that John Connor is still alive so the resistance keeps going. So they rip off Marcus' skin and put John Connor's on the skeleton so now Marcus is John Connor."

These new rumors have gone so far over the edge of logic that I have a hard time believing them at all. If they are true, well that's just dumb. Slap some Terminator parts on Connor to keep him alive, and then make him have to deal with people thinking he's the enemy or something. But to outright replace the guy is kind of fucking stupid. I'm going to feel all New York Actor about this one if it's true.
