It does seem there will be a fair amount of CGI in the film but it isn't really bothering me at this point. It's looking like a great adventure. I can't wait to here John's score!

We'll see. I think they are pushing the envelope a bit much. It looks more like a National Treasure, Mummy or Tomb Raider than an Indiana Jones adventure.

If this is during the cold war, what the hell is a Russian doing commanding US troops in Roswell, NM? The overly elaborate nature of the Mayan temple's traps is a bit too much for me.

The "Damn I thought that was closer" line elicited an eye roll from me.

The style of the trailer did remind me more of a Michael Bay flick than a new Indy production, but once the music kicked it was like comnig back home.

Yeah I like this new trend of 60-somethings still doing their thing and looking cool: Indiana Jones IV and Led Zeppelin! :yay:

Regarding the CGI the trailer looks like a Lucas Prequel Trailer - especially the shiny airliner heading flying into the bright sun. I'm a prequel fan so that doesn't bother me. One issue I have is the Count Dooku style stunt shots ie older dudes doing acrobatic manuevers. Still the Spider-Man whip swing shots were awesome.

:furry:

Also comcast was kind enough go down for me last night so I can study for my math test today ( :whateva: ). Once again nice to wake and find bootlegs and HI-DEF direct links up already. Thanks again everyone :heavymetal:

I don't think it's CG-heavy at all.

The first three used old school matte work that looks pretty dated when you watch it today; do you expect them to go back to using crayons when you can make it look better with technology?

There's only a couple of shots people can really point to anyway: the explosion with the boxes (which isn't exactly a common CG gripe), the plane, the helicopter shot of the waterfall, and the sideswipe car chase. Outside of those, nothiing screams CGI. There's going to be plenty of old fashioned stunt work. In a trailer you just get a concentration of money shots. I'll take those CG vistas over a matted plane smashing into a tunnel circa 1989 any day of the week.

I don't mind the use of CGI at all but the one thing I'm not sold on yet is Janusz Kaminski's cinematography. Obviously, since this is only the trailer, the film has to be properly timed before the picture is locked but judging by the current look of the footage I almost wish Kaminski would have shot the picture in his own style rather than try to emulate Douglas Slocombe's work. Way nitpicky I know but so far it's the only thing that's pulling me out of the Indy universe on this one.

Okay, so I've watched this thing like...5 times...

My ten cents:

The movie trailer is kinda "old school" trailery, especially with all the "punch/boof" quick cuts near the end. Very classic Old School/Indy style trailer. I liked the way it was put together except...the whole first bit harking back to the old movies using some obscure Brian Tyler track...they had 3 movies full of John's music, and the guys went for THIS?! I mean seriously...there's much better they could've used there.

I didn't really see any "in my face" CG...except for the car chase scene on the edge of cliff...that was pretty horrid, kinda like the Dinosaur "romp" from Kong that was pretty CG-overload so that's what it reminded me of. Which wasn't a good thing...

All in all, I really liked the trailer...I liked the one-liners even though I hope to god we havn't just heard all the best one-liners from the film and/or the best action shots. I also hope, this is the ONLY trailer they're putting out for this thing...

I think if they keep this Alien nonsense to a minimum and the classic indy "feel" to an 11 on the dial, then they MAY just pull this off.

I don't feel as worried as I have been, Cate's wig is god-damn awful though...

In short...I LOVED the trailer, it's given me a little hope this may not be a total disaster...and if it gets the bad taste outta my mouth of StarWars ep1 and the first half of ep2 then I'll be happy. I think Lucas is back on track after epIII and with Speilberg direction and some script polishing, this could be okay.

Okay.

This is me being positive...

I really hope this is good. I fucking love Indy.

Raiders is a nearly perfect film and it's really the sequels that make a case for CG. I'm not sure why the matte work in TOD and LC was so poor or why nearly every scene involving an airplane looked pathetic even for the time period. The only parts of the trailer that made me kind of wince were the shots of Indy swinging up like Spider-Man in the factory and the vehicular chase (also some weirdness in the scene of Indy and Mac held hostage, which was actually due to the guns being edited out of the trailer). But I say screw going back to old style model and matte work. I'm withholding judgment until the movie's completed and in my theater.

I think that is version used in Nordic countries or (hopefully) in whole Europe.

Here is the same trailer's Finnish version: http://www.iltasanomat.fi/videot/viihde/1488436 (low quality but that probably is best that we will have)

In the new version of E.T. Spielberg had all guns replaced with walkie-talkies. Now US-version of teaser has US flag (as a patriotic element) and less guns than European version.

Ironically speaking, maybe there are "theatrical cut" version of the film where all the Russians have walkie-talkies and "unrated international cut" where we will see PpSH-submachine guns.

Like Duke said, Spielberg replaced all the guns in the E.T. Special Edition with walkie talkies. The problem is that those aren't two different shots; the American version has been digitally altered for whatever reason.

Yep. One just needs to watch shadows of soldiers in those scenes (and this is seen in those screen caps above): even when soldier isn't pointing his gun to Indy, his shadow still is.

Just watch HD-version of US-teaser frame by frame from 00:57 to 01:00. It just is freaking hilarious. Probably worst CGI ever made by ILM.

It's probably because the green band US trailer will play in front of the PG rated "The Spiderwick Chronicles." Since Indy will most likely receive a PG-13 rating, I don't expect these altered shots to make it into the final cut.

Hahaha. That's gotta be THE stupidest thing ever. Way to fuck-up a release of an awesome movie by having some nonsense organisation cater to the lowest common denominator for a fucking MOVIE trailer.

You US people really do have some stupid fucking people running the movie business over there.

As if a 1min 30 movie trailer for an indiana jones film is going to make people go out and buy weapons or shoot each other in the groin.

...and hell, if it DOES and they can PROVE to me that movie trailer have a DIRECT effect on gun sales and voilent gun-related deaths, then good fucking riddance....survival of the fittest.

I guess it's no different than the cuts made to "A New Hope" for the special edition re-release in '97 in order to retain the film's original PG rating.

The ratings board of the MPAA is completely insane, for anyone seeking further proof check out Kirby Dick's documentary "This Film Is Not Yet Rated."

Just keep in mind these were most likely quick fixes to the trailer and not the film itself.

I like the idea that maybe Indy is holding onto them for some reason (though hopefully not in a Witwicky way!) I guess the main focus of this scene in the trailer is the 'ROSWELL' stamp on the case continuing the Bergs fascination with all things 'Extraterrestrial'.

Is your local theater still doing things the old-fashioned way, and hasn't converted to digital projection yet? Don't sweat it, you'll still be able to catch INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL when it hits in a few months.

In fact, that's the only way you'll be able to see the whip-smart relic collector, per orders of The Beard himself.

Indy's cousin 'Ohio Munson' tells us Paramount is informing theaters that per Steven Spieberg, INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL will NOT be available in digital format. The studio is requesting that complexes who can't project 35mm format let them know.
There you have it. Our favorite scrappy part-time professor (who, sadly, is named after the dog) prefers to remain firmly in the 20th century for now.
