Seems like Vanity Fair did a preview of KOTCS with Annie Leibovitz photography like they did with each of the prequels.

Plus, a little fuck you to the haters from George!

Quote:
“The fans are all upset,” Lucas says. “They’re always going to be upset. ‘Why did he do it like this? And why didn’t he do it like this?’ They write their own movie, and then, if you don’t do their movie, they get upset about it.

Good point, Joe. It’s a nice look, but it does seem a bit anachronistic for the late 1950’s.

The Vanity Fair articles have finally got me hyped for the movie. I like the fact that emphasis is being placed on making the story, pacing, and visuals consistent with the other three films. I guess it wasn’t a fluke that the teaser poster looked new and familiar at the same time.

I have a feeling that the film will be 'controversial' because it'll explain religion as a consequence of alien intervention. Harrison made reference to this film being a logical evolution of the previous films and Lucas has said genre being followed is more 'sci-fi' than archeology to reflect the 1950s period. I think the Ark will be explained as an alien device of some kind....total speculation of course, but I have a feeling that's the direction this movie will go and that's why Lucas is so sure everyone will hate it.

People hated Menace for turning the Star Wars world upside down with Midichlorians giving a biological explanation for the force and I feel like they'll hate KOTCS for taking the supernatural out of the first three Indy flicks, or at least Raiders.

I think that was just a general comment towards Blanchett, the GI Joe Baroness thing she got going on, and wanting to have a pint-sized real version of a movie character on your desktop. Although these plastic guys are somewhat sexy in their own right:

trailer description up at AICN:

Quote:
The trailer starts off with the Paramount logo, then shows the idol from the start of RAIDERS.

Words come across the screen and say, "He found the Ark..."

Then clips from TEMPLE OF DOOM as it says, "He survived the Temple..."

Then clips of the third movie and, "He saved the Grail."

Then it shows a clip of a car pulling up and Indiana being thrown from the car. Then it says, "On May 22nd... he is back," and it shows him picking up his hat and the silhouette of Indiana Jones. Cue theme song.

Some really fast action scenes follow, and the highlight is a car chase scene in the warehouse where RAIDERS ends. One quick shot shows a box that is labled "Roswell". The trailer shows Cate Blanchett with dark hair ordering around troops.

The teaser then shows what looks to be a huge Mayan temple where the actors fall through quicksand, and the temple opens up and they start running down a long staircase where the stairs are coming out from the walls.

After some more quick action scenes, the trailer ends with Shia Labeouf standing at the bottom of stairs and looking up to Harrison Ford. Shia says, "I thought you said you were a teacher?!?!"

After two quick scenes where Indiana is punching a guy, it cuts back to Harrison and he replies, "Part time!"

I really hope they attach this trailer to IMAX prints of "Spiderwick" but I don't see this happening as they usually only advertise films that will see an IMAX release before IMAX screenings. Still, it'll be great just to finally see the trailer for this thing after such a long wait.

CHUD is saying that the trailer cards are different from AICN's report:

He saved the cradle of civilization.
He triumphed over the armies of evil.
In May,
He's back.

Thanks to one of our fabulous international scoopers, MovieWeb.com has your very first exclusive look at the actual Crystal Skull from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull! Not much is known yet about the role the Crystal Skull takes in the movie, but we do know that Indiana Jones will be hunting to find the mystical skull in the jungles of South America before Soviet agents do. Take a look!

I'm actually glad they went away from the "traditional" image of a crystal skull (if there can be one). From the front, the shape is a bit reminiscent of General Grievous' face plate.

:siren: Variety confirms the Trailer will be out Feb 14th in front of the Spiderwick Chronicles and will hit the web shortly after.

Quote:
Paramount will attach the first teaser for Crystal Skull to fantasy pic The Spiderwick Chronicles on Feb. 14, with the spot to hit the Web shortly thereafter.

Reason for the delay is that the film only recently wrapped, so much of the material that would go into a memorable trailer just wasn't ready until now.

Awareness and anticipation also is already high for the pic, so producers didn't feel the need to show too much too soon.

"In the case of Indiana Jones, he's such a well-known character that it's not like you have to get out there and introduce something new," said Spielberg spokesman Marvin Levy. "You tailor the campaign to the material. We also want to keep a lot of the surprises. That's part of the fun."
