AICN has an exclusive first look at "JOHN RAMBO" It's VIOLENT! Hard-R type shit going on. He cuts a dudes head off, pulls out another guys throat with his bare hands, spills the guts of another dude. Hardcore stuff, but there's something about the quality of the print that's giving it a "made for tv movie" type of feel. Doesn't quite look like it's on film. Anyways, go take a look. The 80's are making a comeback!

Here's a youtube link because AICN is taking it down after 2 days: youtube

Wow. I was thinking.....'oh geez'. But the sudden ultra-violence and panoramic hero shots look pretty decent, even if the story allready appears to be kind of thin. I might at least watch it before hating it. First Blood was the only one of the Rambo series that had any resemblance of a 'real film' to me, and this looks like it inches back towards that.

How do I say "You had me at .50 Cal head-shot splatter-fest" without coming off as a bit of a socio-path?

Yeah I saw this the other day. That throat rip scene is sick. I wonder what's up with the names of these movies lately though.

It's a Stallone thing. Rocky is now Rocky Balboa. Rambo is John Rambo. Tango & Cash is Raymond 'Ray' Tango. Judge Dredd is Judge Joseph Dredd. It's the new celebrity from of Bennifer, TomKat and Brangalina. All the cool people are doing it.

Hey DP

I saw RAMBO and a small indy film, FALLING just the other day. Both were extreme in its blood/gore. It was just one of those days.

As for RAMBO, I'm not really sure what to make of it. My impression going in was that RAMBO was going to pay homage to FIRST BLOOD in the same way that ROCKY BALBOA did ROCKY.

The concept is the same, which is wrap up the character with a very in depth character-based film.

In the end it was a character film that fell flat, so they decided to try and make a political statement, but really just ended up with an extremely bloody and gore-filled flim. which is cool but -

You get chills when the guitar and horns echo Goldsmith's score of the first film. You get a kick out of the flashbacks and brief turmoil the character experiences. But in the end, apparently John Rambo likes to kill because he likes to kill. Sort of undercuts the character from the first two films, I think. If they have an extensive director's cut, I hope it does more with his character.

Oh well I did like the ending would have liked a tad more closure, but I guess where he ends up is more important then what happens when he gets there

And actually the blood and gore is pretty well represented by that red band trailer. If they cut much, it was a few frames only.

I just picked up the Rambo Collector's Set. Highly recommended. Rambo (2008) comes with a digital copy of the movie so maybe I'll upload it here if I can figure it out.

There was mention at The Digital Bits awhile back about a Director's Cut later this year entitled John Rambo. I'm debating buying all of them on Blu-Ray now or waiting to see what comes about later.
