Great news. Goliath!

The Will Smith news...not so great, but at least his voice is recognizable and easily identifiable. I've accepted the fact that this movie doesn't represent the same Transformers we grew up with, but it represents that there once existed a great cartoon show that people still love today, and since such a fan base still exists, the movers and the shakers in Hollywood decided that they might make some big bank off of a Transformers movie for the new millennium.

So if you're mad that it doesn't represent the old school cartoon, then don't go see it. Although, feel free to continue to complain, because you have the right to do so. I, for one, look forward to this film. If it's junk, oh well, they made $8 off me. Big fat hairy deal.

IGN has a new TV spot called "Hidden" with some new footage including Frenzy, Megatron, Starscream, Ironhide, Barricade and a new quick shot of Optimus transforming. Looks pretty F-ing sweet! :heavymetal: Hopefully a higher res version will show up. Time to make some new animated gifs.

thread synopsis: "we want a transformers movie made so badly. they're making a transformers movie. this transformers movie is going to suck so badly."

is there any possible way that a movie about robots that transform into vehicles--which is called Transformers--won't suck?

A movie about robots transforming into vehicles would totally suck. I would prefer a movie about vehicles that transform into robots. Obviously that's totally different.

Or maybe something more high-brow, like a movie about robots that get online to tell other robots about how disinteresting whatever they happen to be talking about really is. Because that robot is special and intelligent in ways too deep for the other robots to fathom.

I think they should call it Mecho-Lomaniac and his Big Fucking Mouth Should stfu. I want royalties if anyone uses that title btw.

p.s thanks for the links thundercracker.

Another new TV Spot at the Sector Seven website. Type FWIFFO for the password then click the RED icon in the top left corner. More new footage including some awesome shots of Bumblebee and Starscream transforming!

Seeing this shit in motion is really changing a lot of my earlier feelings, that shot of Starscream transforming and flipping onto a ledge is fucking badass!

Thanks thundercracker. The tv spot on that SectorSeven website is also called "Destiny" on IGN with the link you provided earlier. That SectorSeven site almost makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong or illegal.

From TFW2005: Clearer pic of Brawl's design sheet. Also Bonecrusher's from a few days ago.

In other news, although Frank Welker was not chosen to do the voice of Megatron in the film he will be doing the voice for the official videogame. So that's cool.

The movie is looking a little more promising now that these new spots have hit, but earlier I can't help, but think after watching the trailers that I don't see anything that really screamed out TRANSFORMERS to me. I looked at it and said, "ATTACK OF THE GIANT ROBOTS."

I think you can do a cartoon great justice by maintaining the essence of what makes something what it was. I think one of the biggest dumb things they did was make Optimus so complex looking. I really loved his Mack truck look from G1. And if they were going to "update" him a bit they could have at least kept him his iconic red color. I don't get what's with the blue and flame design. Blech...

Some of the other transformers just don't have that look that is even close to faithful of the originals. There is making more realism to the cartoon, and then there is just scrapping the original and redoing it to whatever they wanted which is what they did and that's a real shame. I could barely look at any of the robots on screen and be able to confidently decipher who is who as far as pointing a finger and saying, "OH THAT'S _______!" Optimus is the only one I can truly recognize because of that head they did an okay job with.

I read that they couldn't get the rights to use an actual VW beetle for Bumblebee... well they should have went with something very close without breaking trademark of the Bug. It's like having R2-D2, but instead of having him in the dome look with the 2 legs they make him into a souped up spider-droid, but still keep the beeping. That's not R2 and people would know it.

I think when you are making a movie based on iconic characters that everyone knows and loves you shouldn't deviate too much away from the original design. It's why we loved those characters. These big film makers have a duty to stay true and faithful to the originals, not re-invent it. You can't re-do a character and expect people to love it. I'm still trying to just deal with Optimus' changes, but they may grow on me later. As it stands right now he is the only character I can truly look at and with a raised eyebrow say, "That looks like Optimus because of his head."

I give a huge bow down to Sam Raimi for stepping up and being able to stay true to the Spider-Man by being very faithful to the original costume designs. They may differ in spots of the costume, but you recognize it for what it is and when you look at him you say, "Ah.. THAT'S Spiderman." I admire a filmmaker who will do that. Although I know there are some costume changes that might be questionable like the Green Goblin or the Hobgoblin, but the villains are very recognizeable at least.

Anyway, if anything this is what has been eating me up inside is seeing how they could be happy with all these changes and deviating away from anything close to the original look of the transformers. You can still be very faithful to the original and still make them look real-world realistic.

I love that Spielberg's on board. NOT happy about Michael Bay who is just an explosion happy filmmaker. I admit I have some of his films on DVD, but I don't think he's a good choice for Transformers.

And I better hear the iconic transforming sounds! LOL! it's the little things that count! I bet it won't be in it. They already botched it up a lot I can see, but I might be proved wrong.

Based on the knowledge we know right now, would someone be kind enough to list the names, corresponding vehicle, (voice talent) and affiliation of the Transformers in this film? Pictures are welcome, but not necessary.

For example:

Optimus Prime - Peterbilt trailer - Peter Cullen - Autobot
Bubblebee - Camaro - ? - Autobot

Megatron - ? - Hugo Weaving - Decepticon
Starscream - Jet - ? - Decepticon

etc...

I dont know how much I like the lips.

In fact, I think it looks stupid.

a voiceover would have a) serviced better and b) saved Dreamworks millions in animation costs.

Also, stores are starting to put out their merchandise and toy displays for the movie. Here's a good shot of Jazz's face as seen on one of these store displays. Images also from TFW2005.

Time to start toy hunting again.

they still look like mechs more than transformers. And so far the toys aren't all that great either. They need some good deluxe model toys with some good articulation. It still will be a good movie

Michael Bay posted a short comment over at his site about a test screening of the movie which he says was positive.

Quote:
We had two screenings tonight 850 people. Highest test scores in my career. Blew Armageddon away which was a 92.

Also AICN has a first review supposedly from this test screening. Review

Not only the colors are bland. The designs too. The only one that looks interesting is Starscream, the rest are overcomplicated piles of junk.

Yeah, this move will not be getting any of my money. Why even bother calling it Transformers? The one cool thing was Jazz's head. At least they gave him the eye visor.

The rest is just a mish mash of horrible design.

I completely understand the need to redesign them for a feature film, but they are just horrible. Awkward wonky and horrible.

Everyone needs to download this movie and pass out free copies in front of the theaters. Call it "FUCK BAY the MOVIE"

Here's exactly what's wrong with these designs:
Image

Ironhide is giving Blackout a headlock and is about to stomp on Frenzy. Megatron is running up behind them and is about to tackle them into Starscream. Easy to make out huh?? Maybe changing the freaking COLOR of these things would help!!!

Why couldn't he make one green or brown or black? THEY'RE ALL JUST GRAY!! Give them character dammit! Let them be distiguishable from one another. It's gonna be a mess in the movie if there's more than one on the screen at a time.

Get ready. It's gonna suck harder than it blows.
