Thanks for the thread FireB. The picture viewer mainly focuses on Jabba's Muppet Show-CGi'ed, the Sarlacc, and Anakin Skywalker/Vader towards the end.

The Emperor's slugs and saber criss-cross was omitted.

I for one like the new look of Return Of The Jedi. I also like the new look for the Sarlaac, in my opinion with the beak and extra tenticles it makes it more menacing. It also gives something more to it when Lando reacts as a tenticle grabs his leg. I found it intresting to that they replaced that shot when Lando's leg was grabbed and a few other shots here and there. Of course most of us don't like the new "Jedi Rocks" sequence...I skip over it most of the time but it was cool to see that Sy Snootles was animated.

I am in a small group of people who actually doesn't mind Hayden being at the end of ROTJ. It really doesn't change the story that much, same goes for the Han and Greedo scene.

I agree with Raveers about this. I can't imagine going back to the gay "YubYub" ending or to the look of the old sarlaac sand-rectum. I also don't think it hurts to have Hayden's visage at the end.

I always hated "Lapti Nek," so the newer number is an improvement to me. But then I also think the whole sequence would have worked better without any full-blown "musical number."
Both songs, as well as dozens of cut away shots of styrofoam muppets and Jabba licking his lips, slow the movie down at the wrong point in the first act, even more so than any Jar Jar moment.

I wonder why they don't mention the Emperor's eye-slugs?

I agree Bandersnatch. By the way I didn't notice the Emperor's slugs this time around while watching the movies on my TV. Probably because I had it calibrated properly and they just never were seen.

The only problem I have with the young Anakin ghost is one of logic. I know George has said that the 'good person' Anakin was died in Revenge, but since he was redeemed in Jedi, shouldn't he retain his 'good' older self?

I actually like the old disco song, not the version in the movie but the one on the soundtrack. I think if anything it would have been cool to see a new dance number set to that track.

"Jedi Rocks" was just too much, especially because of the aforementioned pacing issues.

The Sarlacc was kind of retarded in both versions of the movie, but moreso in the Special Edition because of the annoying addition of Audrey II.

Hayden's addition wasn't done right at all. Pasting his head making odd faces onto the old Anakin's body was just...odd, to say the least. I can never take it seriously. For continuity, shouldn't he be wearing his Jedi outfit from ROTS?

I agree GL should've put Anakin in his proper jedi robes from ROTS. Sy Snootles looked terrible in CGI time to retool the concept,she looks like a reject fom Men in Black. The sarlacc always looked like a giants red-eye in the sand. But hey wait for the saga set in '07.

I have to say, looking at these comparisons only makes me remember how ghastly the original version of the film is in comparison to the beautifully-restored SE. Lucas is a man who wants to stay at the forefront of film-making technology, and I say give the man his dues. You can have your original version of the film if that's the way you want it, but people complaining that the OEs are being mistreated by having their laserdisc transfers ported to the DVD should remember that with your desire to see these old films should come the expectation that you will get them EXACTLY as they were, warts and all.

Personally, I don't care which version of the film I'm seeing as far as the actual contents are concerned - both versions have their failings in terms of mistakes and edits that didn't quite work. For me, the Special Edition represents a massive overhaul in the presentation - not just in the obvious bits which have been CG'ed, but in the subtle parts which have been reworked to come out so much more perfect in these editions.

And hell, the huge improvement in the compositing of the Rancor beast in the opening act makes the 2004 edition worth it alone - I never knew such tremendous detail existed in those animatronics before this version was released.

I think the only thing that lets these versions down is the few mistakes that still made it through - the most glaring one for me being the "sudden" appearance of the tie fighters swarming towards the camera during the battle of Endor :-) Whoops! (Look for them just as the battle begins)

There's certainly nothing wrong with being for the preservation of the classic versions. The imperfections in the films really have nothing to do with the meager 4:3 presentation on the "new" DVDs and the obvious disappointment to be expected from it. Those kinds of arguments, as far as I'm concerned, just don't hold up. But whatever.

Anyway, I haven't watched the altered versions of Jedi for a long time, but does anyone know if they did anything with those shots of Luke turning to face the Emperor after he cuts off Vader's hand? They looked really grainy and discontinuous with the rest of the film in the old version. Just curious since they weren't mentioned here.
