Nice.

Maybe with the new movie coming out, they'll re-release the orignal TFs on DVD. I have season 1, but seasons 2-4 are no longer available, even from dvdempire.com

holy hot damn. those designs are looking badass! The toys, if that detailed, will have to cost $100 each and take half an hour to transform!!

More Don Murphy
(spoiled for those who would rather read then scroll the embedded thread.)

[spoil]
Happy Accidents (A Random Sunday Posting)

Hey there Stooges

There’s a lot of good stuff to tell you about showing SHOOT-EM-UP to the studio and them loving it… about another project that looks like it will happen… about something I so desperately wanted to do in 2002 but got wronged by a friend, and now the karma turns. Like I say there is a lot of good stuff to tell you.

But let’s talk Transformers shall we? There has been a lot of leaks of photos, scripts, tidbits both true and false. Roberto and Alex spoke on a webcast this week. Lots of things coming out which are costing people their jobs. Good stuff, bad stuff.

But you know what? You haven’t actually SEEN a damn thing yet.

Now the negative ninnies out there, the people like Bowspearer who just live in a cesspool of hatred, will say “We’ve seen enough. This isn’t my Transformers.” To those people who are so old school and stuck in their ways I say the following- Go away. Seriously. We don’t need you here. You hate and you haven’t SEEN a damn thing yet.

Oh sure, Prime doesn’t look EXACTLY like he did in the cartoon. The Autobots are only five. The Decepticons don’t have Soundwave. There are complaints out the wazoo. Well you know what?

I have complaints too. There are things I wanted in this film which are not going to be in there. But I know what some of you know- filmmaking is not a democracy. Hell, Adam Goodman is in charge of production at Dreamworks. He’s the guy who BOUGHT this film. He is working day and night to get this ready for July 07. There are things I know he wishes were in the film. But they aren’t. You’ve talked online here to Brian Goldner. He owns the property but everything is not EXACTLY as he wishes. Tom Desanto is the most devoted producer out there- I know there are things he wishes were in there. You saw that Alex and Bob didn’t get everything they wanted. And Michael Bay, who spends 16 hour days shooting this mega-film? Michael Bay who sets up every shot himself and oversees to the point of operating the camera at times? He’s made a zillion compromises to get a great film he can be happy with.

No, filmmaking is a series of happy accidents. When Tom and I shopped this project around every studio passed, including Dreamworks and Paramount. When those two studios and others came around, we ended up with Dreamworks because Steven Spielberg and Adam Goodman (and creative VPS John Fox and Marc Haimes) knew that this was a BIG cool idea for a franchise. Hell, those guys wanted it in cinemas THIS summer. It’s now 07 because everyone wants to get it right. No one is trying to make anything but a great film here.

When I say you haven’t SEEN anything, think about it. You’ve seen a toy mold. A truck still. A Bumblebee model with a guy underneath it.

You haven’t SEEN Bumblebee transform. You haven’t SEEN Optimus walk or Megatron awaken. You’ve seen sketches, designs and stills. Most of you get it when Brian Goldner says “We are doing something here that has never been done.” He’s right. The technology is there to make a LIVE ACTION Transformers film. To make several of them. But this is not a cartoon. There are cartoons already. Hasbro is making more. This is something new and different. LIVE ACTION robots.

So you negative ninnies- I’d like you to give us a break. And if you don’t, I’d like you to go away for a while. Seriously. Come back in six months. Wait until you SEE something that Michael and ILM and all of us have done. Not some leaked bull**** from some coward. Wait till you SEE the magic that I believe will be Transformers the Live Action Movie. Then if you don’t like what you see, hate away. Till then, I challenge you to be a grown up and reserve judgment. Even the majority who seem to like what you see have a right to hate later on.

We’re trying to do this right- to appeal to the fans and the rest of the world. Cullen is hired. Welker is going through the process. Other things are being reviewed and considered.

There will always be someone who wants to hate. That’s so easy.

But I challenge the haters to wait until they SEE a Transformer in Live Action.

And the rest of you, most of you, thanks for the many suggestions and kind words. It continues to be a surprising and fun ride.

Hang Tight Stooges, Hang Tight.[/spoil]

Pardon my ignorance on tformers matters but, from what I can remember from the cartoons, Megatron was a gun. I know that the producers have said that they want to be realistic in terms of sizes and physics for the movie. So, anyone knows if Megatron will still be a gun/pistol in the movie (I dont think so..) or other incarnation of him?

He's not going to be a gun in the movie, one reason being is the producers want as much realism as possible which means no mass shifting between robot mode and alt mode. This is probably a good reason why Soundwave has changed to Frenzy as well.

On the toy side of things Megatron hasn't been a gun since G1 because of toy/child safety laws. But the new Classics toyline coming out this Nov will have Megatron returning as a gun.

You know, this Don Murphy guy is one big asshole. And that's saying something, comming from me! Who exactly is he making this movie for? The kids that are so up in arms are the ones that grew up with the damn cartoon and don't want it butchered by some tightwad ass-monkey. So go fire your people Don. Bitch and moan like a little pussy online and we'll all see the box office take next year. Remember, King Kong and Superman were expected to make a ton too, look at the disaster they turned into.

I hope every last frame of this abortion gets leaked.

I have the original megatron gun. If I can dig it out of the attic, I'll take a pic of it. It would be cool to see him as a gun in the movie. Either that or as a cannon like Galvatron.

well that's it then. We need to start a petition to rename this movie because this isn't Transformers.

How about "Sam and the Metal Pussy Faces"

These designs are really off the wall. They all look like shredded melting metal candles. Prime's head and face at least resembles the original, something they should definetely reconsider doing for Megatron and Starscream.

I like the toy design for Starscream just not as Starscream. Call it Dreadwing and it fits better.

I also kind of like Blackout's toy design except for the large amount of copter kibble hanging off his back. They need to incorporate that better. I don't care for the concept art as much. Again it just looks like a pile of twisted metal. But at least it has a little style and personality unlike...

Megatron. Dull, generic and looks nothing like a robot let alone a TF. Seems they were more interested in creating a scary metal monster than a robot that can actually transform into something. The producers talk about realism but I have a hard time imagining how he could turn into that Cybertronian jet mode.

The Bumblebee render that bearvomit posted is pretty decent though. You can tell that he turns into a car and has visible parts of the car integrated into his robot mode design. He also has a face that resembles the original character.

Surely that isn't the design they are going for with Megatron. He looks like Super Shredder from TNMT 2. What's next? A Vanilla Ice rap song to go with the movie?

Yeah, but the other pic I posted of Bumblebee with the guy standing underneath looks like all the others. Different models. Don't know which one they're going with.

I think visually, they're great designs, just not transformer designs. They have a far too japanese mech look to them.

More damage control from Hasbro COO Brian Goldner:

Brian Goldner @ Don Murphy Boards
"Good Afternoon--Let me answer your questions. Starscream is simply the coolest, most aggressive military jet in the skies. The military has given us unprecedented access to deliver this character to the audience in the most compelling way. He is Very much like G1. As noted to Nelson earlier in the week, the details, deco, weapons, and sculpt itself will change as we move from grey model to final form.

Megatron is an early style board. Without revealing too much of the story, there is a very important reason for his look to have evolved from pure G1; although the final look is a work-in-progress--ILM has just recently begun all their CGI development. Megatron has a iconic personality, and approach that dates back to G1. Throughout time he has had a very big gun.... "
Brian Goldner @ Don Murphy Boards
"How do I say this--You guys say you want to see robots NOW, and then, when you see early work-in-progress, you flip out!!!

Let me try to frame where we are headed with TRANSFORMERS, and draw some analogies...you loved G1 the first time you saw it ( and every time since), and so did we...It told a NEW story of sentient beings that have human-like characters, and yet, there is so much more to them than what's on the surface...they transform from recognizable objects to unimaginable robots. They have their own history, and rivalries that we witness, and get swept up in... We all owe it to the next generations of folks to use the technology, storytelling, and access (to real contemporary vehicles/military) that TRANSFORMERS provides to drive this forward...your input in very important as it helps to shape the delivery of TRANFORMERS as a LIVE-ACTION movie. We will show you robots, when they are right....they will be PHOTO-REALISTIC. In fact, this movie could have never been produced much before today....this is worth the effort.

We need to tell an origin story because not everyone is as versed as you in the history....we need to explain elements of the TRANSFORMERS that can be glossed over in animation...there are logic gaps that do need to make sense when a broad global audience buys a ticket and wants to enjoy the show as much as you will...we continue to make progress.

Starcream is a complex character. He is loyal, and yet ready to mutiny all at the same time. He is two-faced and duplicitious...his character will be played out in his design...as he evolves he is looking very cool....

Megatron too is a very important link from past (G1) to present...there are major story elements that will come to light as you watch the film that make his evolving design ring true...of course, he has always had big guns...just wait to see what we have done here....again, LIVE-ACTION....

The comments and jokes about leaving the boards are unjustified...there has never been a group of producers, writiers, and studio executives more engaged in this project, and for that reason not always attached to these boards.

    thanks...bg"

All the images of the "updated" transformers for the new millennium looks pretty sweet to me. I don't get what all the crazed-bitching is about on some messageboards (notably AICN where they bitch for the sake of it anyways).

The guys needed a revamp for the new millennium, I've avoided reading the script details as much as possible, but I doubt a movie called "transformers" was meant to be taken seriously anyways.

So far so good...

They all look very alien which I guess is the look they are going for in this film. I can't wait to see them in action on the big screen.

I do agree that the Starscream prototype looks slightly awkward, like a little top heavy, but I guess you can attribute it to the realism they are trying to pull off with the live action elements.

what the hell?? Is that from the effects team to work out scale and posistioning? If so, then wouldn't they have better pics than what's released on the net?? If it's fan made, who would have a model of a city street built??

If these are to scale, then Starscream is HUGE

Keep in mind too, thats just a place-holder for the actors to use for eye-sight and stuff....it may or may-not be the final CG'd up version.

I think the "new" designs look great, save prolly Megatron who doesn't look anything like his prior-self....but I mean, I love Optimus and I've always been a HUGE fan of bumblebee...

Seems like a lot of work for it to just be a highly detailed placeholder. I'm not so eager to applaud these designs as "Transformers" per se w/out seeing them in action, but that big fucking robot looks great. Would make a great display, or lawn ornament. I wonder if there is any degree of animatronic articulation built in or if they are just static set pieces?

Bumblebee has the most screen time in the leaked script of all the transformers. I'd imagine this was built because of how often he's interacting with the kid. It's more practical actually to build one that can maybe move it's arm up and down or tunn it's head to get the shot in camera than it is to have to cgi everything. At least when it's onscreen with a human.

in that pic of them all on the street..who's the transformer on the bottom left? Is this Scorponic in his battle form? It doesn't really look like blackout to me.

...taking a look at those scale-pics, the decepticons sure do look pretty bulky and "busy" compared to the autobots?

Kinda like a Transformers vs. Mech-Warriors movie?

I dunno.

I like the Autobot designs, as they're a nice refresh of the classics...but the decepticons look like a complete departure from the "norm"

I thought Brawl was a police car?? If that's Brawl, then this isn't to scale. And the one behind Starscream doesn't look like Blackout either. I think the one on the bottom is the decepticon, Bonecrusher. I'm guessing the one behind Starscream is Ironhide.

There's also a small transformer inbetween Optimus and Megatron.
Also, notice Bumblebee's legs are cut off, that's in the script too. This all looks like what's being described on page 101-102.

I've labeled them in the pic below:

They changed it, the cop car (Mustang Saleen) is now Barricade and Brawl is the tank. Check out the Yahoo chat summary on the previous page with the character descriptions.

Blackout is almost completely obscured behind Megatron but you see his arm sticking out on the right. You're right about the other I think, the guy behind Starscream's left shoulder is Ironhide and the guy on to the right of him is Ratchet.

Still not seeing Frenzy though.
