Long live President Will. Long live the Republic.
These are the words I live by. These and a few simple principles: honor, fealty, loyalty, freedom, independence, democracy. I exist to serve the Republic, and ensure that its principles survive the coming storm. Great and terrible treasons are about to be commited. There are many a group of vindictive, vengeful, misguided, misanthropic fools who would throw away their lives to destroy everything we’ve worked for.
Nonetheless, do not despair. At present, humanity is at its zenith. We have accomplished more in the past 500 years than in all our history to date. We have colonized a hundred worlds and on each of them there is peace and prosperity. Our culture and art have reached their peak. We have survived the greatest of all tragedies- the loss of two homeworlds- and we have overcome the price of our worst sins. Our over reliance on technology nearly destroyed us when the Artificial Intelligence we staked our survival on tried to make us its slaves. Now we have learned from our mistakes, and never again will technology be our master.
Now, finally, the human race has not one homeworld, but many. We have everything we want, and everything we need; plenty of room, and plenty of resources, no need for war, and finally, most importantly, democracy. A system in which every citizen’s voice is heard, and a system in which through hard work and ingenuity anyone can prosper. We have developed technologies that make our lives easier than ever before, but we do not allow these tehcnologies to rule us as a drug or a crutch.
We have done so much that we have only dreamed of in centuries past. We have touched the stars and tamed the darkness of space, solved the problems of hunger, overpopulation, and disease. We have made peaceful contact with and befriended an alien civilization, the Xel, and we learn from them as they learn from us. We have peacefully assimilated the Celestials into our society, and we have much to learn from them as well. Light and peace and warmth spread throughout the galaxy; more than a hundred worlds full of innovation and ideas converge to make our Confederated Colonial Republics the greatest civilization mankind has ever known.
All of this is thanks to the Republic- the ideal that has watched over and protected all of mankind from anarchy, tyranny, corruption, and greed. Which has made all that is wonderful in our lives possible. The Republic has made it possible for us to spread across a dozen solar systems, and still keep a voice. And the heroism and self-sacrifice of the Carter dynasty has made the wonderful mission of the Confederated Colonial Republics possible.
From the legendary hero Armand Carter, the savior of the human race, who saved us from the tyrannical clutches of the mad Iron Gaia A.I., to the decisive action of our current President Will who saved the Republic from being split up by the House Atlantic secession, the Carters have represented the virtues of The Republic- everything good about humanity. It is, all in all, the Triumph of Free Will and the worthy spirits among us that has allowed our society to reach this glorious pinnacle.
However, dark times are coming, and the Republic, and President Will, need loyal citizens to help defend us all. Although the shadow of House Atlantic and the Jersey City tragedy still hangs over us all, an insurrection on the prison world NS-13, Midgard, has revealed a new threat- monstrous Verkulak vampires have revealed themselves after hundreds of years in hiding. Now, they threaten to enslave us all, and use mankind and other sentient races as “cattle”.
The spectre of secession also lingers in Bethlehem sector, where religious fanatics lead by the Lady Mariah wish to cut themselves off from our society and in doing so shut down galactic trade. But there are greater threats than these; dangers that target not just one world, but all worlds.
Nearly a thousand years ago, as we left silent Earth behind, the Gaia intelligence went mad, and tried to enslave humanity, making itself into a god. Since then, we have been rightly wary of artificial intelligences of all kinds. However, such systems are highly useful to our progress throughout the galaxy, and so have slowly been phased back into usage. Over the past hundred years, different artificial intelligence systems have gone mad to different degrees. The incidents have been rare, but increasing in frequency. The smarter the systems, the greater the aberrant patterns of behavior. And each one’s madness has echoed the delusions of the Gaia. Suspicions arose that somehow the G.A.I.A. managed to spread itself before its destruction along with Origin. We have recently lost contact with EE-91 Styx, a waste world controlled by the artificial intelligence Control-001, the most powerful autonomous construct yet to go online.
Man will not again be enslaved by machine so long as a Carter protects this galaxy.
Finally, there is the looming shadow of The Fallen’s battalion- a mad Celestial and a group of insane terrorists who as you all know savagely attacked Avalon and Paris for unknown reasons and then withdrew to the far reaches of space, out to plot other attacks.
Many threats are raised against us. Many will fall but the Republic will remain. We must defend the prosperity, peace, and safety of the Republic against monsters, machines, and the mad. Five hundred years ago Armand Carter established the greatest civilization known to man by single handedly saving the human race from the threat of the Iron Gaia.
This time, our President Will shouldn’t have to fight alone.
