As promised, here are a few screencaps from VLC. In order to meet ImageShack's requirements (under 1.5MB), I had to crop out the black bars and re-save as a PNG. So there might be a slight loss in quality.

Words cannot express how good this looks like FULL HD! :chewbacca:

I can do more later. Once I grab the whole think I'll take requests ;)

Awesome :heavymetal:
I have been waiting for this since I heard of the HD airing for the time.

The Phantom Menace HD aired in Germany some weeks ago. Too bad no one captured it :(

Thanks for the info The_Somnambulist :) I've been downloading it since late last night and it's got just over 7 hours remaining. Though I have to pause it here in about 20 minutes since I'll be leaving and be gone for a while and don't want to leave the download going. I've been having kick ass speed, about 150-160kbps which is pretty damn good. I can't wait to see this high def version.

I'm a poor judge sometimes when it comes to this but is this version a lot better looking than the DVD?

Ok screw Imageshack and their 1.5MB limit. *I* will host them myself. *Edit*: DP kindly offered some hosting so I don't kill my bandwidth. :D Thanks DP!

These are uncompressed 1080i screen caps with black bars. Thank you! :D

Rightfully spoken.

The difference is real. From now on, I'm only watching ROTS in HD.

Holy fucking shit is right. Thanks for those screen caps PerfectCr.

Definitely can't wait to finish downloading this fucker so I can watch it...I'll definitely be transfering it to my mp3 player. :heavymetal:

I've been finally watching a little bit of this and all I can say is definitely, "Holy fucking shit!". The clear quality this thing has compeared to the DVD is simply mind blowing. It's probably my shitty video card but for some reason this video is kind of jumpy...does anyone else have any problems with jumpyness for theirs?

Mine was at first when I tried to play the sample. Forgot where I read it but somewhere out the internet it said that some PC's have trouble playing interlaced HD videos. So I used one of the deinterlacing filters on VLC (which I had to get to play it since it was way too choppy with WMP) and sure enough it smoothed out. The quality is so great on this thing.

Yeah .ts files require a very good CPU to play, mine plays fine, but then again I have a Dual Core Athlon 64 X2 3800+ ;)

I have an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ CPU chip. However I've been having problems even just playing regular DVD's through my DVD player. I've had to play them through my DVD burner drive. Also too when I play DVD's or even downloaded video clips in dark/barely lit scene and scenes that are during the night I can barely see what the hell is going on in the scenes.

It's definitely my video card though so shopefully after I've upgraded my video card to a good one I want that's about $300.00 then that may solve the jumpyness for the ROTS clip. I tried adding the video to my mp3 player yesterday but it wasn't compatible. :( Oh well.

Either I'm spoiled or Cox is a shitty HD provider, but the HD ROTS doesn't look that much better to me than the upconverted DVD on my Toshiba HD-D1.

Well I finally got it on my HTPC today, specs are Athlon XP 2700+ (yes XP, not 64) and a NVIDIA GeForce 6200 and playback was very smooth!

I compared the DVD on my HTPC to the .ts 1080i stream and there IS a clear difference, specifically in background detail. Even my wife could notice and she is no videophile.

It's very possible it was Cox Cable's HD broadcast. I've heard quite a few complaints about downgraded video quality. I'm going to download the uploaded file and hopefully bask in the difference.

This was was an impressive viewing

Think I only have a 61" DLP at 780p or i or whatever the fuck it is, but the big difference I noticed was the background. Great shit.
Drawback - computery shit definitely stands out more like computery shit....

Yeah big time. With the advent of HD you can now CLEARLY see when a real set is not used. Any indoor scenses look great. Space scenes look good beaucse the background is mostly black. However scenes like the one on Utapau when Obi-Wan is talking to Cody while on the boga, that shit looks horrible now. By horrible I mean it is VERY CLEARLY not real.

Look at these two uncompressed 1080i caps of that scene. I sense another specical edition, "fixed" for HD! ;) You can see the ground looks fake and that Ewan is clearly superimposed againist the background action. It is extremely obvious while watching it live on a PC or a HDTV.

Obi-Wan & Cody 1
Obi-Wan & Cody 2

It looks like special effects still have a long way to go to look good in high def. Costumes look amazing however. The "real world" stuff (sets, costumes, human actors) look absolutely amazing. Now I wish the OT was filmed with HD cameras! :)

For comparison, here are two more shots without effects (other than Yoda). ;)

Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Bail
Obi-Wan Close Up

BSplayer had only two options: jpg or bmp, so it was more reasonable use compressed files. :)

Holy crap some of those screenshots are intense. I don't have HBO or HD. So I'm guessing until BluRay or some type of DVD able to play HD really comes along, I'm stuck with those screenshots.

All i can say is WOW. Those screenshots are amazing. Thanks Guys. I can't believe i am so far out of the loop. i didn't even know these existed.

I am real keen to get my hands on a 1080i copy of any of the SW films and ep3 in particular, but it seems you have to pay to join usenet and the hdbits site is locked out to new memebers.

I have checked my usual BT haunts and no one is uploading this so can anyone point me in the right direction or invite me to join.

help me MF, your my only hope....
