Given the amount of villians and characters in the movie maybe it should be called "Spider-Man Forever"

So far we have:
    Sandman
    Venom
    Green Goblen II/HobGoblin (maybe)
    Gwen Stacy

Summary written by DarkHorizons.com:
"Third film in the highly successful "Spider-Man" series sees several new villains and a new woman enter Peter Parker's life. With his secret now revealed to both Mary Jane and Harry, Peter must face the consequences of his actions and his new life together with Mary Jane as they finally form a relationship.

Yet their newfound open display of love has yielded some unfortunate results, not the least of which is Peter's upset boss determined to make his life hell for causing his son emotional distress. Not helping is a young investigative reporter named Eddie Brock who Jameson has hired to find out why Mary Jane dumped his son for Peter - what's Parker's secrets?

At the same time an escaped prisoner hiding out on a remote beach is caught in a dreadful accident and finds himself turned into a shape-shifting sand creature. Peter's investigations into the past of this 'Sandman' brings him in contact with two very different things that will inevitably alter his life. The first a young woman named Gwen Stacy, daughter of the city's new police chief who is developing a soft spot for Peter.

The other, a black substance from an accident scene, which 'merges' with Peter's costume and gives him new found abilities. Things come to a head however when Harry Osborn, determined to take revenge against Peter for his father's death and now equipped with what he needs to pull it off, teams with The Sandman in a new variation of his father's Green Goblin guise and causes mayhem. In the ensuing chaos lives are lost, including people very close to Peter, whilst the black substance covering his suit separates from him and merges with a distraught Brock to form something else entirely - a creature unlike anything he's ever faced. A 'Venom' that he may not be able to stop."

If that plot summary is accurate, and it seems to confirm a lot of the elements other folks have hinted at, this is sounding like a great show. Can't wait to see how it turns out, thanks for the info DP.

Sam Raimi is THE superhero director of our time. Richard Donner did it for Superman in the late 70's and Raimi is the only person I would have sitting behind the camera directing Spider-Man films. Unlike Singer or Ratner, Raimi grew up reading these characters. He knows them inside and out. And if that summary of the movie is true, it will replace Spider-man 2 as the best superhero movie I've ever seen.

Raimi knows absolute shit about these characters. Every time he's interviewed, he speaks bullshit about characters' pasts and histories, calling Harry the 'Hobgoblin' for instance.

Spider-man two was more of a parody than a superhero movie. I felt embarassed watching it. I've been reading spider-man since I'm a kid, I own close to a thousand originals, and when I saw a slow-mo montage of Peter set to 'Rain Drops' I wanted to punch the girl sitting next to me. I think these films are mostly garbage and I dread seeing the third.

By the way, X2 is the best comic movie of our generation.

Okay, first, why would you punch the woman next to you? What does she do to deserve this? I don't see a problem with Spider-Man 2. The comics I have read of Spider-Man have always focused on Peter Parker more and the problems he faces trying to keep up with being a superhero and to protect the ones he loves from that. That is exactly what Spider-Man 2 was. I don't see what is so parody about it. It was a focused, character driven superhero movie. Did you like the original Spider-Man? If so, what was better about that movie?

Oh, and I love X2. Definitely the best of that trilogy. Probably my favorite movie after SM2. But does it follow the comic books better than Spider-Man 2? Not really. Yeah, Wolverine finally gets to cut loose at one point (because up until that point in the first 2 movies you wouldn't have ever thought that Wolverine was a man/beast who was more comfortable in the wilderness than in public), but the Bryan Singer movies never made X-Men a team. It was mostly each character going off, doing their own thing. Cyclops and Xavier for the most part being totally underused (which happened in X3 as well).

Really, I can live with the fact that things change from comic to screen if they make it worth it. Both X2 and Spider-Man 2 did that for me. But for me, Spider-Man 2 was the more entertaining.

First of all, I said 'wanted to'. It's a joke, you know, a hyperbole to demonstrate how frustrated I was watching the film.

Second, the second Spider-man was filled with pointless, poorly conceived scenes intended for comedy or drama but came off as foolish. One such useless scene involves Peter's discussion with a doctor in which he describes his 'friend' having dreams about being Spider-man losing his powers. Peter's slow-mo run atop the buildings, focussing to get his powers back while the tracked in main theme heats up and suddenly dies...Spider-man in the elevator...Give me a break... Then we get an absolutely pointless scene with Peter eating chocolate cake with the landlord's skinny ugly daughter that took up a good minute of screentime for no purpose whatsoever. I don't even have to go into how rediculous the bodysurfing Jesus scene in the subway was. "Don't worry spidey, your secret is safe with all of us honest New Yorkers" (a rehash of the absurd and rediculous scene in Spider-man one where we get New Yorkers bossing around the goblin with garbage).

I have no problem with focussing the story on Peter, of course that's what Spider-man is all about, just do it properly...take us into Peter's world without the tacky scenes of a top 40 pop song playing while Peter undresses in front of his apartment window. The film insulted me as a fan of the character and comic series and as a moviegoer by tossing in all these rediculous elements. Now we get to see another Goblin in Spider-man three...yay...there's only dozens of great villains in Spidey's universe to choose from.

The original Spider-man was more tolerable. In fact, I really liked the Spider-man origin stuff. Hell, I didn't even mind the organic webbing...but once the second half kicked in, it got stupid. The Goblin story was essentially a different movie than the first half (the power ranger goblin is fucking rediculous), and while there were some decent scenes, the film lost its direction. Using Mary-Jane in place of Gwen during the bridge scene was blasphemy, especially since Mary-Jane lives. Basically what I'm saying is that Raimi translated the comic to film and changed WAY too much important mythology to keep me involved. Why couldn't Gwen be in the first film and Mary-Jane still be the girl next door to tease Peter for future movies? If Gwen died at the hand of the Goblin in the the first movie, we'd cheer for Peter to kill Norman a hell of a lot more and then truly the last words of the film "This is my curse" would actually mean something. Peter lost NOTHING in the first movie due to his powers/being spider-man (Uncle Ben died out of Parker's spite for the wrestling director).

Quote:

I don't demand that the adaptation has to be verbatum translation of the source material. That would never ever work, especially with comics; but what I want is a compelling story that takes advantage of the opportunities the source material gives the filmmakers. The first two X-men movies (I dont count the third as being spawned from the original vision of Singer) grounded mutancy in a believeable reality for which the X-men could exist. If you try to translate X-men literally you get Fantastic 4 (a joke), if you identify the main issues that Stan Lee was tackling when he conceived the series then you get something tangible that a good filmmaker can mold into a good film (X1) and great film in the case of X2.

Raimi, to me, has identified Peter's struggle with his powers as the problem facing Spider-man as well as how he deals with tackling a double life. Good, terrific, but the plots were weak in both films and the scripts sub-par. Of any superhero out there, Spidey has tons and tons of source material to work from and we've gotten so much drag in these movies and I can't figure out as to why. We haven't even heard any of Spidey's clever quips or one liners and it's been two films. He's supposed to be a funny kid superhero, he hasn't lived up to that character trait.

I will agree with you about Peter's wisecracks as Spider-Man. We saw a bit of that in the first movie, but none in the second movie. But I am more of an X-Men comic fan than a Spider-Man fan. I've only collected maybe a dozen or so Spider-Man comics, but about 100-150 X-Men comics. But I can't say that anything really bothers me about the Spider-Man movies. I think they work great as told on screen. Yes, the New Yorkers "you mess with him, you mess with all of us" "We can keep a secret" was a bit of shit, but that's about it. I don't really mind either that it seems like half of New York knows who Spider-man is because I have read summaries of many issues of Spider-man where is identity would be figured/found out by many people over the years. I just think there are better character pieces and action sequences in the Spider-Man movies than in X-Men 1 or 2. It isn't that I think I'm right to like it better, it's just the way I feel.

Four Spider-Man 3 Villains!
Source: websguy
June 1, 2006

Former Marvel Studios CEO Avi Arad may have let a big one out of the bag when talking to IFMagazine. He says there are four villains in Spider-Man 3!

iF: There are four villains this time, Venom, Sandman, and Green Goblin and when is the fourth going to be revealed?

ARAD: Right we have four villains. Pretty soon [we'll reveal the fourth villain] I believe. Maybe around Comic Con we'll reveal something and the madness will begin.

The full interview is available at the link above. The third installment hits theaters on May 4, 2007. Stay tuned to Superhero Hype! for continued reports from the New York City sets.

I couldn't get the link to work for IFMagazine, the site was too busy.

Hmmm...something is fishy...

A lot of the scenes were from the first two movies, and there was the adimantium part from X-Men 2.... :what:

Plus they just recently started filming for the movie in New York so I doubt a teaser trailer would be ready this early...

It screams fan made....

Yea that's what I thought, but there are some things that are new, like Peter with the new suit moving down his neck. Who knows, it probably is fan made, but it got me excited for a few minutes at least.

At 2:30 pm eastern, Apple is supposed to have the Spider-Man 3 teaser trailer up in Quicktime. I saw a rough version of it this morning from an Aintitcool link. But the link is now dead. Awesome teaser. You might find a mirror of it on the Aintitcool.com talkbacks. Anyway, 2:30 pm eastern!

Pretty cool. Love the shots of the black suit and the symbiote crawling up Spidey's arm. It doesn't look like Harry Osborn is wearing much of an updated Green Goblin suit except for gloves and some sort of mask that covers his eyes and mouth. It's hard to tell.

I dont know which costume is worse - GG1 or GG2...probably 2. Terrible.

On the plus side, the symbiote looks terrific and I hope this film doesn't ruin this storyline. it's my favourite in all of comics.

Goblin V2.0 deffinately needs something extra, unless they are downplaying him in the script and want the other baddies to stand out in comparison. I dunno', but as is he doesn't look too tough.

Still, this is probably one of the only films I'm looking forward to for next year. Looks like it's going to deliver.

I love the teaser trailer and I definitely dig the black Spidey suit.

I have to agree with the two of you who commented about the Green Goblin II suit. Just something about it that doesn't look quite right, maybe it's just because of how quick they showed it I dunno. Hopefully it will look better on the big screen.

I also agree with you CoGro about the symbiote looking awesome, loved how it showed crawling up onto Peters arm.

My actual favorite part in the trailer is definitely the reflection at the end.

I'm hoping the GG2 suit in the trailer is just something temporary Harry quickly put together for a costume and then later in the film he will have something better. Similar to the way Peter made his own homemade outfit to enter the wrestling competition in SM1.

I don't have a problem with it. The guy is just out for revenge, not to win a fashion contest. Obviously, a lot of people had a problem with the original GG Mighty Morphin Power Ranger outfit, so they have tried to do away with that for the most part.

Anyway, love all the set up of this trailer. MJ and Harry being close, Peter and Gwen, Peter's darkside showing through, Eddie Brock saying "Parker" in what looks like a church (hehe), Spidey tearing away the symbiote in a bell tower (hehe). Not to mention Sandman going all Mummy on those cops. This is definitely the movie for next summer (well, maybe late spring).

This was taken off of aintitcoolnews by the request of Sony a few weeks ago. Don't know how legit it is but here goes:
Q1. Who are the villains and how much screentime does each one get?

    A. Venom,Sandman, and GG2. Sandman is the main one, building up to venom at end. GG has a good amount, though not sure how much time. He's in 2 major battles.

Q2.Does the GG look cool, how much green does he have on him,is his black snow suit have a black hood that covers the top of his head,do the belts on his legs hold pumpkin bombs,is his goggles yellow lens, does he wear gloves of any kind, and why does Harry go with this suit instead of the one his father used?

    A. He looks cool as an individual idea. But again, nothing remotely goblin like about him except the weapons, glider and some green on him. No hood, the belts hold two swords. One long one on his back, a smaller one on his right leg. Pumpkins bombs are in his glider. Goggles are black. He has a green mouthmask. Gloves are black. No idea why. Possible to make it more to his liking, a way to "improve".

Q3.Does Venom fight in this movie or does he just show up as a cliffhanger?

    A. Yes he fights. Again, he will fight Spidey with Sandman at the end, the movie leads up to this "battle royale" at the construction site. GG will also join in the fight, but not on the sides of Ven/San. GG fights with Spidey instead. A.I've seen the costume of Venom (yes hes in it, but only towards the end) and its extremely cool. Think all black latex with veins all over his upper half, reaching over onto his arms. However the veins also shape into the Spider thats on his chest in the comics (no white). Venom will be a little larger than. spidey. Basically the bad version of spidey. Venom has nasty teeth, no where near exaggerated in the comics. Just really sharp yellow teeth, very fang like, it will be prosthetics. Tongue will be CG.

Q5.I'm kinda confused, does spidey wear the symbiote before Brock gets it?

A.Yes. After his date with MJ, the symbiote clings to his shoe and waits for Parker in his room one night. He then wakes up upside down on the side of a building wearing the symbiote costume.

Q6.If spidey does wear the symbiote, what does it look like exactly?

A.The same costume as blue/red only black with all the scale detail and webbing over it. Not impressive. It looks like this because it stuck onto his old costume then it clung on Peter.

Q7.And how long does he wear the suit?

A.For right now, a good chunk since the movie is about Peter and how the symbiote possesses him, and the decisions he has to make.

Q8.Who does he fight with it?

    A.Sandman, robbers, and Harry

Q9.What makes him take it off?

    A.Bell Tower.

Q10.What kind of things does Sandman do in this movie power wise?

    A. Grows a lot. Sandstorms. Hand as a sledgehammer and mace. The FX will raise the bar.

Q11.Where do all the fights take place on/at?

A.All over. In the air/Alley, underground subway, armoured truck in the streets, construction site.

Q12.Is there a cliffhanger at the end of this movie?

A.Not currently. But there is one scene that leaves questions opened about the return of the symbiote.

    Q13.Who does Bruce Campbell play?

A.He has a cameo as somebody named Quentin Beck. (Mysterio)

Q14.Where does the symbiote come from?

    A.An astroid.

Q15.Does spidey wear his regular red and blue spidey suit in the movie?

A.Yes. At the beginning and end of the movie.

Q16.Is S-M3 and S-M4 being made back to back?

    A.Nope.

Q17.Is Venom going to be the villain for S-M4,or is S-M3 going to be it for him?

A.End of the line for Brocks version of Venom, but not the symbiote itself.

Q18.Are there lots of fights/action in this movie?

A.TONS. Four BIG fight sequences. All very fun, and clever. Wont be disappointed in that department. Be prepared for A LOT of fight sequences including a revisit to the subway fight sequence (only underground this time).

Q19. What is that church for?

A.The church sequence is used when Black Symbiote Spidey attempts to tear his suit off by the ringing of the church bell. Unknown to him that right under him in the church Brock is walking in where pieces of the symbiote land on him and then bond with him.

Q20. Do GG2 and Spidey ever face off?

A.Yes. I will mention one fight scene at the beginning of the movie in particular. Harry in full GG Glory first attacks peter, and tosses him into the side of the building. This also where they have a huge airal fight sequence leading to a chase into an alley where (yes as a previous plot spoiler had reported) Harry is knocked out and Peter saves him and brings him to a hospital.

Q21. How much screen time does Dr.Connors have, does he mention anything about lizard experiments?

    A. Connors studies the symbiote sample. So we see the inside of his lab. A lot of Lizards references.

    Q22.Who dies?

    A. Aunt May and Harry

This sounds legit though, in particular the part about Harry throwing peter into the side of a building, which we see in the new teaser.
Looks badass so far!

Nice trailer, love the black suit! :heavymetal:

The only thing that bugs me is the "soundtrack" of the trailer, was well as the pretty bad CG, from what I can tell so far... I hope both improves for the final movie... :D

Sorry for posting twice in a row, but WiredImage has some shots from the Spider-Man 3 set that certainly might spoil something from the movie. Wow, I'm just not sure what to think of this scene. Anyway, here is the link. Click if you dare!

Anyway, I want to throw in my 2 cents hidden here

[spoil] So, this scene seems to put Sandman in the death of Uncle Ben, as Cliff Robertson, the criminal who we believe killed him, and that old car Sam Raimi loves so much are in this scene. Are they maybe trying to make Sandman the actual killer? Did he try to stop the thief from stealing the car? Very interesting turn here, and possibly gives Peter Parker something to hate about Flint Marko.[/spoil]

plot summary, and the pictures released today from wireimage confirm the story here:

[spoil]About 13 pages into the script you already get introduced to the Sandman, the alien symbiote and Green Goblin 2. The Alien symbiote comes from a meteor and it happens to touch and follow peter home without his knowledge. So it just sits in his apartment waiting....

Anyhow. we get an early fight with GG2 and Spidey that has Spidey on the recieving end of an ass kicking only to get turned around as GG2 gets pushed into a narrow alley and runs head first into a spider web clothes line hanging and almost killing Harry. Peter saves him and Harry doesn't remember much. So chalk up another mind wipe in the comic world. Flint gets turned into Sandman as he is being chased into a molecular test site and bam... becomes sandman.

MJ's career isn't doing so hot and she is a bit jealous of all the fame that Spiderman is getting. At the same time Peter is trying to find a way to propse to MJ. Gwen Stacy steps in as Peter Parker's tuter student since they both have Doctor Connors class together. She is also played up as a slut in the script and has dated Brock in the past but was nothing serious. She also introduces Spiderman during a "Spiderman Day" event and pulls an upside down kiss. This whole thing doesn't last long as Sandman is highjacking an armored truck. Spiderman kicks in and attempts to save the day. Think of this fight like the sandstorm in Mummy 2. The fight ends with Sandman getting away but not before Brock gets a snap shot of a "defeated" spiderman. When Peter finally figures out how to propse to MJ he takes her to this coffee joint and Gwen comes in only to ask Peter if he has that picture where she is kissing spiderman upside down. This does not please MJ at all.

Oh, side note... Brock, who from the script was hired only a week before (error already) and Peter are fighting for one of the staff positions on the bugle. Both are taking photos of spiderman only Brock's don't paint him in a pretty light. At the same time Aunt May and Peter are taken to the police station for some shocking news. Seems that Uncle ben's killer from the first film wasn't actually his killer. Just some guy that helped. The real killer is... You guessed it.. Sandman. So now Peter gets it personal with Sandman. He's pretty much hunting him down with no luck. Sittting by police scanners just incase. Even pushes MJ away when she tries to comfort him. He falls asleep curled up with the police scanner and this is the perfect time for the alien symbiote to make its move.. He wakes up the next morning high above the city in his black costume With the power that the alien costume gives him he easily tracks down Sandman and a massive battle goes on eventually leading to Sandman getting a load of water hit on him.

Spiderman goes back to the apartment where he meets the russian dude who bugs him for rent.. only this time Peter aint taking no ****. He tells off the guy and you see a hint of the aliens true form with the teeth and what not before he takes it off. MJ gets a new job and goes to Harry first since Peter is pushing her away. At this point Harry starts to remember everything. MJ and Harry kiss and she bolts out the door after realizing what she just did. When she gets back to her apartment there is someone waiting for her.. Green Goblin 2. He makes her make Peter meet them some place so he could force her to break up with him and go with Harry under threat of hurting Peter. Peter is suffering from the roid rage that the alien costume brings about and doesn't care. He also comfronts Brock who has been doctoring photos of spiderman. Peter proves this and gets him fired. Peter also takes the costume to doctor connors who has a lot of Lizard stuff up on the walls.. hint hint..

Next day he's going out with Gwen stacy to where MJ works as a singer where her dad is hitting her up for cash. He steals her spotlight and Gwen picks up that he's doing it to just get back at MJ and she runs out. Peter doesn't give a **** and goes off on them. MJ's dad doesn't like this and steps up to Peter. He takes him out and stops only after hitting MJ. He realizes it's the suit that is making him do these things and decides to get rid of it. Just so happens he web slings to the top of a church and attempts to get it off with no luck. Even more lucky that Brock is in the church inside. Beyond lucky is that the church bells ring and the costume melts away... and lands in Brocks hands.

Brock finds sandman and makes the team up happen to get rid of Spiderman. They kidnap Gwen Stacy and take her up a 70 story building for the classic drop scene. Both sandman and venom start kicking the living **** out of spiderman leading to MJ to beg Harry to help him. He comes to the rescue as Venom is about to impale him. Pumpkin bomb after pumpkin bomb the battle rages on. Gwen is dropped and only a matter of feet away from death she is saved without any neck injury to boot. She goes to kiss him again but Spiderman turns her down. Venom is about to impale spiderman again but Harry gets in the way taking the force.

There's a subplot about sandman doing all the crimes to raise money for his kids health but who cares about that stuff besides it's the kid who eventually tells sandman to stop kicking spiderman's ass. Venom is also shanked. So the Alien costume leaves Eddie and goes after spiderman. Peter remembers about the bell and starts hitting the bars making the noise eventually winning the battle.

MJ, Gwen and Peter are all still alive but sadly Harry isn't. At the very least Harry did forgive peter just before he died. [/spoil]

The Sandman/Ben plot thread is rediculous and unneccessary.

I like it...

I still think it would've been cooler to see the larger classic symbiote spider on Spidey's chest.

entire NEW trailer from Comic Con in the worst possible quality!

comic con trailer

really, the quality is dark, blurry, far away and at an angle, but it's the whole thing with sound.

^ Nice avatar. Ho!

If Venom is not featured well in this movie or Spidey 4, it would be an injustice to his character.

As an aside, Kristen Dunce should never have been selected for Mary Jane.

All early reports state that it's mostly a Harry (GG2) and Sandman movie. Peter has the suit/symbiote for awhile, so Brock ends up with the symbiote in the third act.

And then there is this:

[spoil]Brock is rumored to die at the end, but the symbiote's future is left open. [/spoil]

I'd heard rumors about the same thing Hade. Hope it isn't true because I believe if you are going to bring Venom in late, you need to have him for the next movie (and when I say Venom, I mean symbiote+Brock)

New trailer set to air on MTV during The Real World/Road Rules Challenge at 10pm Eastern Thursday, Nov 9th.

http://comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=17355

Pretty sure MTV will try to make you watch the whole episode and show the trailer at the end. It should be online very soon after or hopefully earlier. :chewbacca:
