I dug it. Too bad spidey cant fly, though. I'd be all "WTF, Stark you air-nazi!!" And if he's makin' Mary Jane porn the least Tony could do is post them online.

To get a "New Comics Reviews & Views Thread" started, I'll be editing in the da op (the original post) with covers and some comments written in Reservationese of course.

Green Lantern Volume IV Issue #09

Ordinarily I'm not in to DC - I'll download the 0-days, read them and then delete them if the cover scan grabs me. Well the variant cover featuring The Batman wielding a lantern, "BatLantern" caught my attention.

The Batman guest-stars in this issue joining forces with The Green Lantern to fight the symbiotic supervillian Tattooed Man - whos tattoos come alive from his skin... putting the smack down on any and all meddling superheroes!

Of course given the color and content of this issue I read while

Marvel Zombies #4

Wow, what can I say. I didn't get to read issue #1 or #2 but the gist is that all of the marvel characters are either turning into Zombies or being eaten. I'm not sure what is with the Zombie craze over the past couple of years (28 Days, Dawn of the Dead, etc.) but marvel has certainly created there own version for the zombie lover in everyone. The funny thing about these zombies is that they still talk and act like the marvel superheroes but they feed on fresh human meat (or if none is available they will eat rotten meat or reach into their own stomachs and re-eat the flesh!

Anyway, Galactus has come to eat Earth and the zombies want to stop him not only to save Earth but to have a massive feast on his flesh. A very funny issue and definitely leaves me wondering where this 5 part series is going. Can't wait for #5. Shawn Phillips pencils reminds me of Jae Lee.

I missed out on The Ultimates until recently, but having gone back and read a few older issues I can see why this series is so popular. And to think, a character like Hawkeye, who was totally "B" team in the standard marvel u, could be such a fucking hardass is a pleasant surprise.

Image

I totally fuckin' dig this series. It could use a hit of meth as the last couple of episodes haven't been as interesting or fast paced as I'd hoped. But the story is still intriguing and I may be biased on the pacing having read the first 39 issues in the span of about 3 days.

Ultimate Hawkeye is apparently a cross between Bullseye and Hannibal The Cannibal Lecter.

[spoil]
Ultimate Hawkeye escapes his captors by ripping out his fingernails and killing a roomful of armed gunmen with the bloody nails as projectiles. Hawkeye's bloody nailess fingers are shown throughout the book.

The part in the comic where after the American government is overthrown... when the Axis of Evil are discussing having free and open elections for the American people... well it made me lol :monocle:

Okay, decent action, but otherwise wtf?!?!? I don't read a lot of cable/deadpool but this seems like a bunch of mediochre crap thrown in a blender and chopped up into hybrid-mediochre-crap. I may be wrong, I did just recently cut out the dope and my brain is a bit gooey with all this 'normal' thinking....but wtf

Ultimate Spider-Man #91 - featuring the first appearance, more like first glimpse of Ultimate Deadpool. Issue #91 of course starts a four-issue (I believe) arc of Ultimate Deadpool and the Ultimate Reavers. Next issue will be full blown Deadpool with a cover splash to boot. Kitty Pryde is featured on this issues cover. Pryde looks Spider-girlish on the cover and in the issue they are trying to come up with a new name for her.

Ultimate X-Men #68

Comics arrive on the shelves every Wednesday. Last Wednesday I woke up quick at around noon and the ish was already "up". Morning wood more like morning comics, 0-day more like 0-hour: :monocle:

Image

Ultimate Extinction #03

This Ultimate Marvel mini-series introduces Ultimate Silver Surfer and Ultimate Galactus. Ultimate Silver Surfer has wings and serveral rows of teeth not unlike sharkys. Ultimate Galactus, called "Gah Lak Tus" is not this immense being but a immense robotic swarm of some sort with one consciousness... or something.

Comment: No Breasts. And Spidey plays the role of Starks bitch so well I'll bet his next new costume is pink with a removable zippered crotch for easy access. Good set-up ish for the Civil War though.

Illuminati was kinda boring. I guess it's important to Civil War, but I'll have to wait to see how it relates.

About Action Comics #837:

Superboy's statue pretty much confirms he dies in the Crisis

Ultimate Spider-Man #92: Ultimate X-Men and Ultimate Spider-Man land on Utapau where they are persued by Ultimate Deadpool & General Grievous. Ultimate Deadpool is apparently a shape shifter. Ultimate Storm wears the lowest possible pants I seen in comics.

Image

Fantastic Four #536 more like Fantastic No Thor

The idea behind the current storyline in the Superman books seems to be to make them more accessible to people who pick them up after seeing the movie. But the characterization of Luthor has been so screwed with over the past 20 years that they really ought to just kill him off.

Still getting over last Wednesday's 0 day when Ultimate X-Men #69, X-Men Unlimited #14, Annihilation Silver Surfer #01, Young Avengers #11, Marvel Zombies #05, and Moon Knight #01 were "up" by 3pm of that day. :monocle:

Image

Moon Knight #01: I like Moon Knight and this ish's art was aight. Could have done without Marc Spector hitting Marlene or whatever her name is. To me, Moon Knight would be much better if the whole multiple personality thing was thrown out... There is the mercenary alter ego, then the rich Bruce Wayne type character, then there is the cab driver personality.

Image

Infinite Crisis #06: DC comics don't do it for me but I enjoy thumbing through them or should I say mouse clicking through them ( :monocle: ) if only to see all the caped superheroes I don't recognize. Another thing I like about DC is the way they draw their super ho's.

Image

Ant Volume II #05: um... Ant (Aunt) Vagina Flow?

ComicBookResources.com was kind enough to give us a 5 page preview:

Well, it seems that the only mutants left in the world are X-Men and X-Men villains. And Apocalypse, for the most part, is only accepting applications for Horsemen from X-Men (present and past). Of course, there is no shock in all of this, because 2 months from now every X-Man will be back to normal. Shiro has already been changed back after only one issue or so of being a Horseman. Gambit is still having second thoughts about it. The only one who is still in the game is Polaris and since this Apocalypse story is over next month, I'm guessing that she decides not to be a Horseman and gets her powers back. Wow!

Okay, Iron Man is becoming kind of a Dick. Maybe being jacked into every convievable electronics device on Earth could have that effect on someone, but it doesn't stop me from hoping he is the "hero" that gets popped in the civil war. Besides, one of his multiple suits could just come difribulate him on it's own, from what we see in this issue. I hope my avatar fucks him up.

Civil War #1:

[spoil]It was OK. I think the hype got to me, and having so much foreknowledge of what was going to happen (even without reading the spoilers for this issue) made it kind of predictable. However, Millar is probably my favorite writer right now and have full faith he's gonna kick my ass with this series.[/spoil]

Infinite Crisis #7: [spoil]

I liked it, but the resolution to this whole event felt a bit rushed, even with the extra sized issue. The Joker came back from out of nowhere (although it was a pretty good scene), and the combined Society was dealt with a bit too easily. The GLC holding the Line against SB Prime was kick-ass though. I'm glad he lived, I think he makes a great villain. All in all, I thought the whole series was solid and a worthy sequel to the original Crisis.[/spoil]

S.H.I.E.L.D human shield, Cap rodeo's an in-flight F-15, and the Civil War begins with the Supers showing off how socio-politically ignorant they all are. All in all, a good read.

]Image
I like this series, but the way so little happens from issue to issue is driving me nuts. The writers need some meth, methinks.

Image

After all the horrible reviews I read about this one, I was pleasantly surprised. And Ultimate Deadpool more like Ultimate "When Mars Attacks".

The art in this book makes the boring tale within worth reading. Maybe I'm just not a big enough Spidey fan to appreciate the big battle of the beast men the way I should, but it all seems kind of "so what". Still, great looking book.

Image
Good to see Tony Stark out of control with something in his hand other than a bottle of booze. Just too bad it was Cap's throat and he was squeezing like he was making lemonade. This title still kind of confuses me. Is it full of flashbacks or what?? Because in every other part of the 616 Nick Fury is AWOL, and here he is, kicked back in his chair giving orders like nothing ever happened. I don't get it. At least the art is better than that horrible "Inevitable" series. Yick.

Image
Lots of fighting, and Peter Parker gets a brief Gitmo treatment. I'm just waiting for this team to implode. Too bad, this was a great run. Still is, but it feels like it's going to trash itself at any minute. Oh, and Jessica Drew is drawn like a porn star. I'd hit it.

Okay, is this drawn by special-ed kids or am I just not "getting" the style of the art in this book. I can't even tell if this story is worth a shit to read because I feel like I'm going cross-eyed trying to just look at it let, alone follow it anymore.

Image
The Green Scar, worldbreaker. If this book had breasts it would be the greatest ever. Silver savage more like Silver slave-boy.Nice to see the Hulk worth reading again

I always thought comic books were gay...

http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/books/06/01/batwoman.uncloseted.ap/
    New Batwoman is a lesbian
Editor: 'We decided to give her a different point of view'

NEW YORK (AP) -- Years after she first emerged from the Batcave, Batwoman is coming out of the closet.

DC Comics is resurrecting the classic comic book character as a lesbian, unveiling the new Batwoman in July as part of an ongoing weekly series that began this year. The 5-foot-10 superhero comes with flowing red hair, knee-high red boots with spiked heels, and a form-fitting black outfit.

"We decided to give her a different point of view," explained Dan DiDio, vice president and executive editor at DC. "We wanted to make her a more unique personality than others in the Bat-family. That's one of the reasons we went in this direction."

(DC Comics, like CNN, is a division of Time Warner.)

The original Batwoman was started in 1956, and killed off in 1979. The new character will share the same name as her original alter ego, Kathy Kane. And the new Batwoman arrives with ties to others in the Gotham City world.

"She's a socialite from Gotham high society," DiDio said. "She has some past connection with Bruce Wayne. And she's also had a past love affair with one of our lead characters, Renee Montoya."

Montoya, in the "52" comic book series, is a former police detective. Wayne, of course, is Batman's true identity -- but he has disappeared, along with Superman and Wonder Woman, leaving Gotham a more dangerous place.

The "52" series is a collaboration of four acclaimed writers, with one episode per week for one year. The comics will introduce other diverse characters as the story plays out.

"This is not just about having a gay character," DiDio said. "We're trying for overall diversity in the DC universe. We have strong African-American, Hispanic and Asian characters. We're trying to get a better cross-section of our readership and the world."

The outing of Batwoman created a furor of opinions on Web sites devoted to DC Comics. Opinions ranged from outrage to approval. Others took a more tongue-in-cheek approach to the announcement.

"Wouldn't ugly people as heroes be more groundbreaking?" asked one poster. "You know, 200-pound woman, man with horseshoe hair loss pattern, people with cold sores, etc.?"

DiDio asked that people wait until the new Batwoman's appearance in the series before they pass judgment.

"You know what? Judge us by the story and character we create," he said. "We are confident that we are telling a great story with a strong, complex character."

DiDio spent most of the morning fielding phone calls from media intrigued by the Batwoman reinvention.

"It's kind of weird," he said. "We had a feeling it would attract some attention, but we're a little surprised it did this much."

New X-Men and Astonishing X-Men are the best X-titles out today (that I'm reading at least).

This will be merged in the "hay guys we got 0Days up in here lol" thread unless you want to comment specifically about The Ultimates.

I'm totally into this Superman Returns prequel comic. After the first one, I thought it was just going to be S:TM redone in comic form.

But now a Luthor story from prison, setting evrything up for the movie.

Sweet!

They need to put this book out more often, it's by far one of the best series out there. This issue continues to deliver with Cap handing out broken jaws in the first few pages. Fantastic.

Image
I'm still a big Cap fan, and this story arc is okay but I think without all the intrigue previous issues had, I get bored. Still, a good read. Next issue looks better.

Image
Ha-ha, Tony Stark is mentally deficient. Everybody poke fun of the egotistical genius. Good to see the main proponent of the Registration act is again in total denial of his own (current) issues. Kind of ironic. This book still confuses me though, is it a flashback or an alternate reality or what?? Nick Fury, hello?? Still a good read, though.

Image
I recently decimated my comics folders and cut them from 8GB to 3GB and this whole "Annihilation prelude" business got the axe. I was reading and following along but I got really annoyed when the interesting parts never showed up. Waste of time to download. Didn't read this ish', I'm waiting for the main "Annihilation" series to even give a shit at this point.

Image
WTF!!?!? I enjoyed the first of this series, but this "Aesops Fables" looking crayon drawing shit is rediculous. I got through the first three pages and deleted it. Hope they get better because it's an interesting concept. This was some awfully shitty follow through on it, however.

And the rest, I haven't read....yet. Thanks again DP. Wendsdays aren't just for the weekly bathing anymore. :monocle:
