Albeit subtle, the left-right transitional wipe between the shot of Obi Wan in deep thought aboard Padmé's ship (after leaving Mustafar), and the shot of Anakin's robotic arm digging into the molten rock, has been removed. Now the two shots just jump cut from one to the other. It works a little better without it - yeah, nothing significant, but nonetheless it's a difference.

Anyone still have the early screener leak to confirm this?

If you don't have the screener, how do you know that it's actually like that? Or did you hear that from a friend of a friend?

Just checked it and yep the wipe from the WP/Screener is gone! After the shot of Obi-Wan and C3PO in the cockpit it cuts directly to Anakins mechanical arm in the dirt and i think it works just fine!

You're right, but it wasn't a left-right wipe. It was a vertical right-left wipe. Hadn't noticed.

when anakin is sent to the jedi temple by mace, he hears plalpantine say something to the effect of "if diee all my knowledge is gone", in the dvd version, thats it. But in the theatrical release padme says " i truly deeply love you" from attack of the clones.

also, in the theatrical version, the super battle droid that gets zapped by artoo says" dont movie dummy" ( or possibly stubby, im not sure), but in the dvd, he just says dont move.

Actually, I think the Padme line WAS in the theatrical cut, but "Don't move, stubby" was only part of the Trivisl Pursuit footage.

Also, in the Spanish and French versions, Vader's "Noooooooo" has been replaced with a groan.

If the workprint and screener were the theatrical versions, the line wasn't in.

There was no Padme line during that one temple-apartment scene in theaters...

Not something different from the theatrical cut, but a mistake I found in chapter 27, where Mace fights Palpatine. After the scene where they show Anakin running into Palpatine's office, it cuts to Mace lifting his lighsaber over his head ready to attack. Then they cut to the their hits and then to Palpatine snarling at Mace. Well, it you look at that shot where Palpatine spins and snarls at Mace, you'll notice that it's the same shot used from earlier. It's Mace's face blown up probably 300% and placed at the left side of the screen to make it look like Mace was standing there. I guess you have to see it to understand what I'm talking about.

Yep, it's the same shot as when Mace watches Kit Fisto go down. Uh, well if that's what you're talking about.

Nope. God knows I was geeky enough to see the flick over twenty times in theaters, so I remember the scenes. Palpatine's line always was, "You do know, don't you? If the Jedi destroy me, any chance of saving her will be lost." And the "dummy" part of the line never made it into the theatrical version.

No doubt they must have needed a close up of Mace for that shot but didn't have one so they "stole" one from another part of the sequence. I was watching the depth commentary on dvd.starwars.com and it points out another instance like this in the Grievous duel. When Obi-Wan is backing away while Grievous is doing his buzzaw routine, they lifted the closeups of Obi-Wan from the Mustafar duel when he's on the pipes.

If you watch, the shot is obviously from the Mace vs. Palpatine part. It pisses me off that they just threw it into the Kit fight so that Mace watches him die. That fight was going fine up until that point.

I agree. The whole fight is full of jump cuts just like the AOTC duel which irritates the hell out me. But that's a whole other discussion.

After watching that duel again, I noticed that the other 3 jedi were very unsure of who Palp was going to strike first. Instead of making the first move, they all waited and got jacked.

Perhaps Yoda's words to Luke in RotJ about not underestimating the powers of the Emperor refers (in part) to how the Jedi who attempted to arrest Palpatine underestimated that he could do that funky jump/twist and slice-slice move that he does and find themselves D.E.A.D.

In other words, I think the arresting Jedi figured they would go in there and just grab Palpatine (Anakin only speaks to Mace about Palps being Sidious) and that would be it.

This could be taken as either a) clever, or b) stupid.

As Saesee Tiin's lightsaber bumps into his horn and wobbles it around. Oh yes, it was a terrible sequence.

The Sidious-Mace fight never really did it for me on a purely visual level. Not until the glass shatters at least, after that it lives up to billing, but before that, it never really lived up to what I had in my head.

I think watching the Stunt docs, and also the Becoming Sidious webdoc I think it is, we get an explanation for this, in that McDiarmid basically had to learn the moves the day of the shoot.

Yeah, the fight was crap until the window was shattered...I would have loved to see more rain and more wind - a total storm.

the main thing that pissed me off about the duel was all of the face shots that made everybody look stupid, especially when palps does that stab thing and makes the goofy face. somebody had it as their avatar i think...

I do like the music that accompanied this duel, however. Though, on a side note, I do wish that while Anakin is making his choice to betray the Jedi, I wish they had played some variation/a piece of/a theme of the music when he decides to kill Palpy in ROTJ (as we watch Luke get zapped). If not that, then the Force theme.

I am so glad this was finally confirmed....that shot has been annoying the shit out of from the moment I saw it....I always thought it was too obvious it was from the final duel (from seeing it over and over in the ol blue screen days)

I'm thinking of putting together a page on the PQ changes, similar to the OT changes on DVDActive. One that I've been told about in ROTS that I can't confirm from the screener or the theatre (my memory isn't what it was) is the line 'I'm more powerful than any of you' when Anakin is flipping out about not being made a Jedi Master.

Was that line ever in the film? I know it's in the script, and there's an odd pause in the dialogue where it should come (and a strangely hostile reaction from Windu without it), but I'd like some proof before including it.

Yeah, that's what I checked. I was talking about people remembering it from the theatre of from cam jobs. It's odd, cause I seem to remember it, but that could just be like the old X-Wing smashing intot he Death Star's shield bit (everyone thinks they remember that if they had the audio book).

Well, geek that I am, I saw Episode III 29x in theaters, and never once heard Anakin utter that line.

I watched ROTS again the other night and one line stood out to me that I've not taken notice of before.

When the Emp and Anakin are discussing their next moves after Anakin has become Vader, Sidious is telling him a bunch of stuff "go forth and kick ass" etc, Anakin responds with something like "The Jedi will kill the Sith" now I can't say I've heard that line beofre.

After watching Sith today I think the opera scene could be one of the greatest scenes in the saga. Definately THE best lore moment.

Also, when I watch the film I'm always thinking of shots I would change or add to enhance a scene's impact a little more. Spielberg could have done wonders with some of the crucial story scenes here.

one off the top:

- When Anakin arrives on Mustafar, a darker and more evil way to have shot the scene should have been a close up on Anakin's face, blinking into his Sith eyes, putting up the hood, cut to medium shot from behind his back and follow him walking towards the bunker....cut to R2 shot as it appears in the film. It looks kind of awkward as it exists. I also think we should walk into the control room with Anakin, close up of the back of his head, then cut to Gunray. "Welcome Lord Vader, we've been expecting you."

It's a stylistic opinion, but I think this film, being as personal as it is, required us to be right there with the characters a little more. Maybe even a final extreme close up of Anakin's Sith eyes as he's burning on the lava bank with the reflection of Obi-wan walking away in his eyes (instead of the wide shot of the bank we get).

The Opera scene adds the one thing most of the PT lacks - a history. It's about something that happened before the events that transpire - just like Anakin's story was the history that drove the OT. However, I wouldn't class it as THE scene.

The ultimate scene in the PT for me is Yoda and Sidious battling it out in the Senate - good vs bad fighting in the very heart of the galaxy. The Duel of the Fates was most was used most appropriately in this spot - much better than in TPM.

Maybe it's just my memory playing tricks on me, but I seem to remember that a few moments after Mace kicked Palpatine, right after Anakin arrived at the scene, Mace used his free hand to slightly adjust the left side of his cloak. In the current version instead of this he shows Anakin to stay back with the same hand.
