For those of us in the US... nothing like waking up to the smell of new DVD Deleted scene screencaps in the morning... courtesy of DarthFirst.

This is the deleted fuel room sequence.
Coming up next: Grievous's penetration of Shaak Ti with his mighty saber.

Again, not sure if these are the absolute correct ratio. Obi-Wan and Anakin cutting a hole in the floor is so badass. Thanks for breakfast DF and DP.

I've seen it so many times the first thing I wanted to really check out was disc 2. Having been insanely busy for the past week or two, disc 1 has been left til today. I'll probably sit down and watch it in full with the commentary later on today. So far it's been bits & pieces, I haven't watched the film through yet. Just fast-forwarded.

Shaak Ti apologises for failing the Jedi. Greivous says something about looking forward to adding Obi-Wan and Anakin's sabers to his collection.

Then he crouches down behind Shaak.

Grievous: "STINKING JEDI!"

Grievous then plunges the saber through her chest. Shocked, Obi-Wan and Anakin instantly ignite their sabers but are surrounded by battle droids.

Nice one.
I presume Grievous still delivers the line about Shaak-Ti's saber before plunging it into her back.

does shaak ti have any dialogue in that scene?

Don't think so, she just sits there.
In the version shot in pick-ups where Anakin kills her in the temple, she sensed him enter and inquired "Master Skywalker, what is it?", but I don't think there was dialogue from her in the original version.

EDIT: She apologises for failing the Jedi.

Ah, I stand corrected...

yeah of course he's there - he just killed Shaak Ti a few feet away from them.

After Shaak is killed they cut through the floor and escape.

The animatics are very obvious once this happens (one shot is even labelled 'EPISODE III' and one shot features a small but noticable segment of unkeyed greenscreen)

Wow, that's not the way it was in the script. Of course, Shaak Ti being killed wasn't in there either.

The published script was included revisions made after this footage was shot.
Originally Obi and Ani were separated when Artoo makes the elevator fall - Obi went on to face Grievous while Ani faced Dooku.
In the shooting script, Grievous role was trimmed down and Ani and Obi came face to face with him here, briefly before escaping into the fuel chamber.

It was originally shot this way, and then revised so that Grievous/Shaak-Ti were not present, achievable via editing.
Then the scene was dropped altogether...

Yeah, that was the revised version of her death filmed during pickups after they had cut the Grievous version.

This scene with Shaak Ti was the original introduction to Grievous in the film. When this was cut, the Jedi's confrontation with Grievous and the introductory dialogue ("Ah, Skywalker, I was expecting someone older." ect. ect) were transplanted to the bridge scene.

Those screenies look hella sweet! I'd heard a rumbling that the deleted scenes were mainly going to be of the rebellion subplot.
Nice bit of saber action - lookin' goood!

Good luck re-introducing the Grievous/Shaak Ti scene. Are the Jedi going to be introduced to him twice?

No, not all of it because the shooting script never leaked. But much of that dialogue on the bridge was originally in the Shaak Ti scene because that was Grievous' first appearance in the film and the Jedi's first encounter with him. After that scene was cut they moved the dialogue into the bridge scene.

In order to put back the Shaak Ti scene, the bridge scene in the film would have to be modified otherwise like DarkShape said, you get the Jedi being introduced to Grievous twice. It's possible but it would require additional editing beyond just dropping it back into the film proper.

Palps rescue is after Shaak Ti's death, Artoo's diversion and the fight with the guards on the bridge still happens in both scripts. Like I said, it's not totally impossible to put it back in the film, but the introductory dialogue on the bridge would have to be removed.

Here's a part of the original introductions during the Shaak Ti scene:

GENERAL GRIEVOUS: Anakin Skywalker, the "hero with no fear." We've been waiting for you. Frankly, I was expecting someone with your reputation to be a bit... older.

ANAKIN: General Grievous, "Supreme Commander of the Droid Armies," you're shorter than I expected...

GENERAL GRIEVOUS: I'm surprised Skywalker, for someone with so much intelligence... you walked right into my hands.

ANAKIN: Quite frankly, I was hoping for more.

OBI-WAN (quietly): Anakin, we've got a job to do here, don't upset him.

GENERAL GRIEVOUS: Ah, yes, and General Kenobi, "the negotiator," who doesn't know the meaning of the word intelligence. Your presence, along with Chancellor Palpatine's, has graciously given me more hostages than I could have hoped for.

*****

GENERAL GRIEVOUS: Shaak Ti, your lightsaber seems a little battle-worn. It will need considerable cleaning, but it will do the job.

Then there's also the dialogue during the space battle that would be missing, since orginally Obi-Wan and Anakin were following Shaak Ti's homing beacon....

ANAKIN: The last message we had from Master Shaak Ti, she was still with the Chancellor.

OBI-WAN: She's the most cunning of Jedi. She's even shown me a few tricks. They won't catch her.

ANAKIN: Artoo, trace Shaak Ti's homing signal!

I was just watching the movie and I didn't see her. Not in the scene where Anakin tells the council of Grievous's whereabouts or in the scene where Mace senses a plot to destroy the jedi. Did I miss her?

Ah, yes. There she is. But that would be an easy fix if they wanted to put the scene in the film. And if that's the only shot she's seen in, then they might not notice themselves. But it's not happening (officially), so I guess it doesn't matter.

fer real. i could not completely understand what was said so i turned on the captions and was surprised to read it was Qui-Gon Jinn. i was glad he spoke up, had some real meaning for me in the context of the film to know Qui-Gon was agonizing from the grave over Anakin's misdeeds, but i'd never known otherwise wtf w/out the captions.

Right.

Now that we resolved the AICN/TFN/FI-SCI stuff it maybe best to start pruning away some of the offtopic/ trekkie stuff going on here. That way when DF comes back here he won't have to sift through all this.

New threads: Dagobah and the origin of Yoda's Pod

If you want to talk Prequels Office Politics, there is awesome postage here: Lucas, Liam, and The Prequels

Resolved Inter-Site Politics: AICN/TFN/MF and moms

Where we are today...

DarthFirst's last login was around Thursday 12am EST and has stated in the original post that he doesn't have a lot of time these dayz. Today I private message'ed DarthFirst today to see how things are.

Someone could perhaps combine all questions and screencap requests into one post so DF doesn't have to wade though 120 messages.

This thread has spawned some new ones. Please don't be offended if your post has disappeared or it's in a new thread.

Ok, I've compiled all questions left unanswered (quite a few have already been). Excuse me if I forgot a particular request. I also tried to avoid redundancy. Here it is :

1) Changes to the film :

-Has DarthFirst told us about any changes to the film itself? Any extended scenes added?

-Any new bit of dialogue ? Anything cut or replaced ?

-(...) the Hyperspace SIGGRAPH ILM reel showed a few seconds of finished footage not in the film before Palpatine rushes Kit Fisto and Mace Windu. Is this scene changed in any way as far as you can tell?

-Have you checked wether the running time of the DVD edition matches the running time of the theatrical edition ?

2) About the DVD commentary :

-What's the commentary on the movie like? is it more of GL commenting on it now then in TPM and AOTC since Ben Burtt isn't in the commentary now ?

-Any interesting revelations in the commentary ?

-Does Lucas say on the commentary if Palpatine allowed Mace to defeat him or if Mace defeated him legitimately? Does Lucas even touch this subject (...) ?

-Any comment on Palpatine's transformation and ugly look ?

-Is the Qui-Gon scene mentioned specifically by anyone at any point on the audio commentary or disc 2?

-Does the commentary explain what the Jedi thought process is when they are talking about their plans for the twins?

3) Deleted scenes :

-Is the Shaak Ti scene scored? And if so, what music did they use when ShaakTi takes the long one in the back?

I appreciate the pictures and all, but this is taking a sort of silly amount of time.

DF still hasn't logged in since last early Thursday 12am EST. Thank you to Palmito for collecting all questions into one post, I've updated my private message to DF with a link to it to save him the trouble.

It's sursprising that the DVDrip hasn't been dropped yet. The Attack of the Clones DVDrip dropped two months before it was officially releasd. So it's not unreasonable at all to expect the rip to drop at anytime with less than a month to go.

Torrent sites and pirate groups were pretty heavily policed after the workprint started showing up. I'd imagine everyone's a little wary of becoming known as the first source for the DVD rip.

Just curious - in those deleted scenes, why is Shaak Ti just sitting there? It looks like she's letting Grievous kill her. You'd think she'd hop up and join the Jedi...

Except the Anakin version kinda raises the same kind of questions. Why doesn't she do anything? She's meditating in her quarters while Clone Troopers are attacking the place. Why doesn't she sense anything or at the very least hear the commotion going on in the halls. And that's very much the reasons that version was cut as well. Maybe it could have worked better if they included it as part of the security hologram recordings that Obi-Wan views.

Can someone explain the original version of that scene to me? If anyone knows - was it in the screenplay that we have? I don't really get it - isn't Anakin just sitting there idly watching Mace and Palpatine fight the whole time a little weird. Particularly because he sees those Jedi get cut down, I'm assuming (based on the room he is coming from).

Did they have to edit him out of all those shots?

It's from the Sidious webdoc, and someone added the lightsaber effects to the raw footage. It is from the original version of the scene that had Anakin witnessing the fight as mentioned previously.

Originally as it was scripted, Anakin was present when Mace and the Posse came to arrest him. Anakin did watch the fight before making his choice. Lucas, in editing, decided to change that all around so he reshot most of it, especially the parts with Anakin....

Yeah, it's from the Sidious webdoc, I just added in some lightsabers. I like the way that portion of the fight in the corridor is shown in the raw footage better than way Lucas edited it in the film.

That's the gist of it. Also, Palpatine used the Force to grab Anakin's saber from his belt and used his to attacked the posse. This is why it is actually Anakin's saber hilt Palps is using. They revised this during pickups, the fight remained unchanged for the most part. You can read a little more about in this Homing Beacon
