I'm also looking to make a set of DVD covers for the six films. Does anybody have hi-res versions of blank (i.e., no titles) TPM and OT (Struzan) covers? I've found a few fairly low-res images (400x600), but as everybody knows they don't work particularly well for DVD covers :)

Same thing goes with Indiana Jones.. the DVDs so far have all been pretty unimpressive.

Original Trilogy DVDs: while adding in a few new FX shots, have glaring production and editing issues... watch closely in ANH, when Vader is talking to Tarkin the dialogue is overdubbed and Vader's body is moving and gesturing after his voiceover has stopped.. just dumb little things like that. ESB and ROTJ have quality control issues as well.. not nitpicky little details about continuity or "Wouldn't it be cool if...?" but just shoddy work. Let's be honest, does ANYONE think the DVD covers are good? There is at least 20 years of poster art for all 3 movies and the best they can come up with is a photoshop montage? Another reason for this is the tremendous amount of OT Bootleg DVDs making their way around the internet and on EBay which caused LFL and Fox to probably react very quickly and turn around an official DVD release..

Hasn't the vader talking/gesturing been a problem since the first VHS release?? I seem to remember every copy I have to have this same issue, VHS and DVD

One funny thing is that I have heard about this date of Nov 1st as the release date for a few weeks now and last weekend while my wife and I were listening to the radio, the jockey got on and said "Big news for Star Wars fans, Episode III revenge of the Sith is slated for release on Nov, 1st..." I turned to my wife and said... Their news is a little late, because this was announced like 3 weeks ago that the release date was in november.... She laughed

I wonder who'll have the best freebie. You think they'll give away the Musical Journey DVD?

Yes, the vader gesturing to Tarkin issue has been there ever since 1977. It is certainly not a DVD issue, go back and check your old tapes. The scene's dialogue was either changed from what they filmed when they did the original sound mix or they just had the timing WAY off when they recorded James Earl Jones' dialogue.

This was covered (again) in the current issue of Star Wars Insider. Basically, the scene which ends with Tarkin saying "terminate her immediately" (and Vader gesturing silently), and the scene where the two of them are notified that the Millennium Falcon has been captured, were initially both parts of one long scene. When it was decided to split the scene into two separate scenes, Vader's dialogue from the middle was removed, though his gesturing remained.

It doesn't bother me. Though I hope Lucas has it digitally removed from the next DVD edition so that sheep have something new to bitch about.

I'm reading this "last chapter of making of episode III" on hyperspace and it says here, when john williams is recording the score that there are 2 versions of the opening, i think:

"Day 2: Thursday, February 3, 2005

6M9 Revenge of the Sith
Revenge of the Sith DVD Version
3M5 Good-Bye, Old Friend
2M5 Grievous Travels to Palpatine..."

what does it mean?!

They just take clips from the Soundtrack for that.

And if you read the whole story, you would know that wasn't for the opening. That is what "Battle of the Heroes" was originally named, simply "Revenge of the Sith."

That was probably the Music Video version.

It appears the deleted scene 'Into the Fuel Chamber' has been posted at the OS via HS.

Amazon.com has what are supposedly the "official specs" listed as:

-Commentary w/ Lucas, McCallum, Rob Coleman, John Knoll and Roger Guyett

-Deleted Scenes w/ introductions by Lucas and McCallum

-"Within a Minute" documentary about the making of the Mustafar battle

-"The Chosen One" featurette: Lucas traces the myth of Darth Vader in Episodes 1-6

-"It's All For Real": The Stunts of Episode III

-15 Web Documentaries

-Poster and Print Campaign

-Trailers and TV Spots

-"A Hero Falls" music video

-Never Before Seen Production Photo gallery

-Battlefront II trailer and Xbox demo

-Empire at War PC trailer

-DVD ROM content

So, I guess the only questions left unanswered are these: How long are the documentary and featurettes, what are the deleted scenes and how many of them are there, and why are only 15 of the 18 webdocs included? I guess we will know soon enough.

It will probably be a comprehensive documentary that focuses on more than just the Mustafar battle. At least that's what I'm hoping.

yes, that's true.

but amazon.com has been known to just put up whatever information they have, and any information like this being released this early and not on the official site makes me think it's not real.

well of course it has, i aint no fool.

I was just hoping that some superfriend sent in a false title for the documentary just to have his 15 minutes of glory.

some asshole did that with the last Weezer album on amazon, so I'd assume someone would do it here

either way, i'll wait for the latest OS update before i believe amazon

The Episode II doco's sucked.... hard. God that DVD was pathetic. The main feature of this DVD will be the deleted scenes methinks...

I liked 'The Beginning' on the Episode I DVD. Even though at the end of the doco when the crawl begins to roll up the screen at the premiere in a packed theatre with the whole crowd screaming like little girls at the top of their lungs, you can't help but laugh at how dissappointed they're all going to be in two hours...

Sounds like they are trying to show how many people and how much effort it takes to complete a single minute of film the audience will find enjoyable. then it will be up to the viewer to go "wow, how many minutes are in this film? that is a lot of effort to please my worthless self."

Puppets to Pixels did not suck. It was very interesting to me, especially because these movies are filled with hundreds of digital characters. To show the process on how that aspect of the film comes to life is pretty amazing. If that DVD was pathetic to you, I'd like to know what gems you have in your collection because I find the SW DVDs as some of the best produced in DVD history (I'm not alone in this mindset). The deleted scenes were weak, but besides that, I'd call Clones one of the best DVDs I own out of my 200, taking into account sound, video, presentation, special features.

I do agree though that 'The Beginning' is a better doc for the masses who may or may not find an interest in digital filmmaking. Personally I would have preferred it if they stuck to the same 'fly on the wall for the entire process' format that 'The Beginning' implemented, but I can't fault LFL for trying to mix it up a little. Besides, I have no doubt we'll see a massive set for the saga that follows the pre/prod/post for each film.

What I missed from "The Beginning" was McCallum getting pissed off. But maybe that's just me.

I can't really fault AOTC's bonus features except for the deleted scenes. They were so poorly done in comparison to TPM's. ILM was lazy and the scenes in general weren't very good. Maybe that's why they were cut, but I liked TPM's scenes.

But on a side note, in relation to other DVDs I have, AOTC's deleted scenes were infinitely superior to the absolutely attrocious quality scenes on other DVDs I own.

I wouldn't say they were lazy, I think they just didn't have as much time to finish the scenes as they did on TPM deleted scenes. Remember TPM DVD came out a year later after the initial video/vhs release. The poor fx didn't bother me as much as the fact that the deleted scenes were themselves cut up and missing chunks of dialogue.

As far as DVDs go ALL the Star Wars DVDs take the top spots in my collection, and indeed I'm sure they're some of the best out there. Why I say the DVD sucked was because the deleted scenes were incredibly dull, and not well put together. I did not like 'Puppets to Pixels' because it really came off to me as pretentious and self-appreciative - a "look at what I can do" thing...

That, and the fact that I really don't care much for the movie... Though the quality of the film itself is outstanding.

This is precisely why I said what I said:

And I do hope you're right that some day we will get a more in depth look into the making of all the films... especially the OT - while 'Empire of Dreams' was truly great, I'd still like to see more of what happened on set and in post...

Puppets to Pixels did not suck, it by itself is definitely not sufficient. The Beginning was much better, Puppets to Pixels was so narrowly focused. We already know sooooo fucking much about the post production for christ's sake, it really wasn't necessary. I'd like to see more about the pre-production, specifically the writing, the story, etc., and the production, more bits with the actors, Ewan, Natalie, hayden, fly on the wall style. You don't get a sense at all of what life on the Star Wars set is like.

Overall, Star Wars + Indiana Jones, the DVDs Lucas has given us are not exactly mind boggling to say the least.

Lucas must take some amount of responsibility for the SW DVD content, but the Jones DVDs are more Speilberg's neuroses. He apparently insisted a bunch of short, shallow featurettes for fear of "giving away the magic", the insecure prick.

Beginning - 10/10

Puppets 2 Pixles - 7/10

They were both really well made, and I can watch either of them; they're real rewatchable. That being said, this new documentary will probably be great, but it sounds so lame. I'm looking forward to the Anakin featurette more.

I would fully agree with those ratings. I hope the Episode III doc will be an 8 or maybe even a 9. It's a pretty safe bet it won't be as good as "The Beginning", though.

Confirmed DVD Deleted Scene: "A Plot To Destroy the Jedi?"

Yoda, Mace and Obi-Wan scene in the Temple. "This scene contains some of the first Yoda animation to be completed for Episode III. Obi-Wan and Yoda discuss the strange shift in the Force as the galaxy continues to be consumed by darkness. It was cut from the film in March of 2004."

The Episode III DVD contains a snippet of test animation that replaced the Episode I Yoda puppet with the Episode III digital model.

Looks nice too.

Just finished reading that too. Looks good. So now we have two confirmed deleted scenes:

"A Stirring In the Senate (Bail's Office)"

"A Plot To Destroy the Jedi"

There's also the possible Grievous scene that Matt Wood has been hinting at as well. I had completely forgotten about that scene in Yoda's Quarters.

Nice to get some more mention of TPM Yoda puppet replacment stuff too. :?

When I saw Episode 2, I was shocked by the Yoda in there. In my opinion it looked like a rubber duck (or frog if you will) I was frightend when the first TPM Yoda change rumors popped up. But ever since I saw the Yoda from E3, I want that puppit to die. And that picture does it all. Puppit has to exit. So definatly looking forward to this change now.
