not sure if this falls in this category or not but just before the clone pilot in the opening battle says "Lock S-Foils in attack position" if you look at his target thing its the same graphic as the one from ANH X-Wing thought that was a nice little touch

didn't anyone notice that, after killing Dooku, Anakin holds both (Dooku's and his) lightsabers. Then it cuts to his face and then back to the chancellor. Anakin then releases him with his left hand holding his ls in his right hand. we neither saw him nor heard him drop Dooku's saber.

Things happen off camera, I assume that he kept it, probably put it in his cloak somewhere.

Does anyone know where the hell the Mankvim-814 Techno Union Interceptor appears in the film? According to the website it IS in the movie, pulling "background duty" somewhere. Does anyone know which shot it's in, I can't spot it anywhere!?!

Also, for anyone who is interested, I DID manage to spot the Utapau fighter (P-38). It flies overhead as Obi-Wan's fighter takes off from Utapau, after Obi talks to Tion Meddon. It's in the top right-hand corner, only appears for half a second or so, but enough to confirm what it is.

So if anyone knows where the Mankvim-814 is, please tell me.

CONFIRMATION:

Yes. This guy was even in one of the webdocs. Don't see what's so interesting about it, though.

honestly the duel wasn't that much better, it had some kickass choreography but freakin zoom out so we can enjoy it! don't zoom in on their heads while they're doing monthly trained acrobatic moves, it makes them piontless.
i guess that's his matinee serial style but i hate it.

This point I have to agree with, and maybe take it a step further. The only duel that I really loved was Obiwan and Maul in TPM. It was zoomed out, and showed the whole fight in all its choreographed glory. Yoda's fights were cool, but I can't view them the same way I view real battles because its all CG.
TPM was intense, mindblowing (the first fight of its kind) and really well shot. The final duel was cool, but you hit it, it was too close, and too much happening that wasn't straight up fighting (which I'm sure was the point), but the only really gratifying part was the very end.

I actually liked the up-close and personal duel. Sure, the Maul duel was awesome, but I'd take the final ROTS duel anyday. It had so much more emotion, not just because of the characters, but because of the way it was cut. It was intentionally done, not to hide the choreography, but to make it more personal and emotional.

In that filmmaking sense, both the Maul and final duel had to be shot differently to get their purpose across. I thought it worked great, but I know a lot of other people feel otherwise.

Alfred Hitchcock has his famous quote about how action SHOULD be shot up-close and semi-chaotic, because it works so much better that way. The Maul duel was cool, but even with the choreography, it sort of blah, what's the point, IMO. I guess that's just my filmmaking preference though.

No matter how badly choreographed the Palpatine/Mace duel was, it will always be entertaining because of Palpatine's facial expressions.

Very interesting indeed. Still alot left unanswered 'officially.' Doubtless all will be revealed when Lucas does the DVD commentary. I wouldn't be surprised to see somthing of these revisions making thier way into some documatary part of the DVD either.

Very interesting, indeed, though.

Palpatine did try to run from Yoda, so it isn't that hard to believe that he could be beat and knows it.

It was pretty much all touched upon in the Making oF ROTS book, but yeah, Mace does best Palpatine with sabers... but after that it's a facade.

Understanding that things do and simply just 'happen ' in the 'SW' universe with-out explaination - While I don't consider these to be Nit-picking here are a couple of things that have annoyed me since my first viewing of the movie (and continue to):

1. During the Dooku/Obi-Wan, Anakin fight sequence - Specifically right after Dooku force-hovers Obi-Wan (then kicks Anakin) Dooku then force-throws Obi-Wan into a piece of bridge rail (temporarily knocking him out) he then force-lowers a section of bridge down landing on the lower section of Obi-Wan's legs, the bridge piece then shifts forward along the ground about a foot moving Obi-Wan with it

Would this not effectively crush the bottom portion of Obi-wan's legs?

When Anakin/Palpatine are leaving Anakin proceeds to check on Obi-Wan's condition, he has to lift the section of bridge off of Obi-wan's legs (You can hear the sound of this action)

2. When the Invisible hand (Greivous ship) begins it's crash course, Anakin realizes that elevator 3324 does not work, the ship begins it's downward decent then levels out upon Greivous' orders to fire the emergency booster engines, this leaves Anakin (with Obi-Wan on back) and Palpatine hanging in the elevator shaft, realizing that the elevator is flying towards them they let go on Obi-Wan's cue (notice that Palpatine is at least 10 feet ahead of Anakin/Obi-Wan) as they slide downward, Anakin & Obi-Wan then release grappling hooks which snag around a piece of shaft allowing them (Palpatine, who is now convienently hanging on to Obi-Wan's legs) to swing into safety through an opened elevator door as the runaway elevator flies past them

Not really an egg, but a little detail question. What was that ship that lands behind Palps' shuttle when they land at the medical building?

Dunno if this was mentioned yet (I haven't read the whole thread) but I noticed this littly ditty at 12:50 into it. When Dooku force pushed Obi-Wan to the ground, you can see Obi-Wan's lightsabre casts a shadow. Hm....

Image

Also, later in the movie when Anakin & Obi-Wan are dueling, there's a cool reflection of the sabres against the window.

Image

So, the SFX crew were paying attention in one scene, but not in the other. ;)

There are beams on the underside of the platform preventing Obi-Wan from being crushed...

Lightsabers casting shadows? That's a new one on me. Great find Gregory DG.

Somthing that's been bugging me about the film for ages is the reconstruction of Vader at the end of the film. He's lying there on the table and the lower half of the mask, the bit around his mouth, looks quite different to what we see Sebastian Shaw wearing in ROTJ.

Image
Image

It's missing those funny little bits that extend to the mouth. The rest of it looks slightly off too. Plus there's the annoying way his mask goes together differently in this film. There's an unnatural looking join halfway down one of the sections of piping alongside the mask.

Image

Once Vader's up and about, though, this join is magically gone.

Image

Obviously this is because Hayden is wearing the full mask, rather than one specially built for the reconstruction scene, but this is somthing that leaps out at me and grabs my attention when it shouldn't. It also doesn't match up with the ROTJ helmet again.

Ah well.

Continuity, eh? Pah!

Not an amazing find but a nice bit of playful continuity.

In TPM, Threepio says "I can assure you, they will never get me onto one of those dreadful starships". In AOTC, he says, "I'm not worried Artoo, it's just that I've never flown before". In ROTS, he says "I think I'm beginning to get the hang of this flying business". However, one mind wipe later and his outlook is ironically reversed in ANH: "Oh my, I'd forgotten how much I hate space travel". Boom boom.

Edit: As for the Vader mask continuity, it's actually pretty much identical to the one worn (or rather removed) by Sebastian Shaw. The picture below is from the OT Screenthemes collection:

Image

Note the circled pipe split which aligns with the one on the mask, as in ROTS. Clearly there were two versions of the mask built, both in ROTJ and ROTS. Can't complain about saga continuity at least! :)

What about Yoda,?? after the Sidious Duel, he loses his cloak, it falls after him, then hangs out of reach. Then when Yoda crawls through the vent, and lands in Bail's Speeder, he is still missing his cloak..... later in the Corellian Corvette....he has his cloak again.....

Did they swing out and buy a new cloak?

Either way, it's something that doesn't need to be answered for the most part.

My weirdo explanation for the robes (at least to my kids, who asked about it) is that Jedi apparently like to weave those good ol’ home spun robes in their spare time to bring them closer to the Force! How many times- in this movie alone- do the Jedi drop their cloaks and fight, only to leave and not retrieve them? Next scene- oop! There’s a new robe! After Yoda made his escape, he simply wove up a new one on board the Tantive. Must have helped pass the time, talkin’ to Qui-Gon and all…
