to get a perfect working copy:

1. join both parts using avijoiner

2. encode the avi file using tmpgenc plus using the NTSC setting on DVD mode, NOT NTSC 16:9 as I originally did. Change the resolution to 704x576, choose Fullscreen(keep aspect ratio) and it takes about 5 hours.

3. you'll notice when you playback the new mpeg file it has no sound, no worries. just get winavi, go to avi mode and choose the file joined together bu avi joiner. Make sure the output is set as mpeg1 then let it encode, takes about 30mins.

4. open TMPGEnc DVD Author and create new project, add the video file .mpg that you made in tmpgenc plus, once added a screen will open showing the source for the audio and the video. change the audio source to the mpeg file you created using winavi. click ok, add menus, backgrounds, whatever. Allow the program to export it into vob files.

5. then open nero, burn dvd video, drag and drop the video_ts and audio_ts folders tmpgenc dvd author made and burn baby!

Currently trying this particular MF method. When I get to the part about using winavi I am always getting errors and cannot get it to change the avi to a mpeg1. I looked through the websites troubleshooting on the errors that I was getting and still nothing. Do you know of another good program that is free and will do the same thing that winavi does? Thanks

I highly recommend that method. Worked awesome and was easy and faster than any other method.

tried alt.binaries.movies.divx and all I found were incomplete files. I tried the other suggested locations and can't find the complete file.

Initial reaction seems to be that the file is from the same source. Video quality appears to be slightly better, but we know that the aspect ratio was not fixed in this release. And there is no information up yet as to whether this is 5.1 or at least correct 2.0 audio channeling.

I have followed these instructions, I have my VOBs and my new IFOs and I'm ready to burn, however (you'll like this) I don't have a dvd burner. So what is the easiest medium for me to get these files over to a friends computer to burn them to disc? I considered you-send-it, but the files take forever to upload and my internet connection is coming and going tonight so the files never get fully uploaded and I keep having to start all over. Finally got it working......Used DIVXtoDVD and just selected force 16:9. Created the .IFO after and I've had no problems so far...watched 1.5 hours of it

The KKi release appears to be teh win.

This is driving me a little crazy. I remember using a "recover black" or "trueblack" filter in....something. Virtualdub? Procoder? I can't remember and can't find it anymore, but was did a test encode which worked very nicely with it. Anyone know where this filter is?

Does anybody have any good ideas about reducing the clipping during the loud parts of the audio?

I used Goldwave to swap the audio channels and then I used Compression with the "reduce loud parts" preset. It seemed to work ok, but I am still not completely satisfied with the result. The audio seems to be closer in volume from the soft parts to the louder parts, but the really loud parts still seem to have a bit of distortion. If anyone has any suggestions on what they did, I'd really appreciate them.

I'll Probably leave it as it is, but to see what others did would be interesting.

Anyone experience a skip in the movie. I watched it twice...the first time when Padme lands on Mustafaar, it skips to the beginning of the movie again. The second time..it hesitated a bit a d skipped a little. Just wondering if anyone else encountered this error.

I don't have a dvd rewriter myself, and the whole thing is too big to fit on vcd so I'm playing it off my computer. My tv supports pc in, which I hook up to my tv for a nifty 1280x768 resolution. I'm still amazed how clear the thing is. It's no dvd quality sure, but it will definatly do until the retail version comes out. The sound is way better when hooked up to my stereo.. you gotta love this stuff! A few pics I made just now:

Jkozzy, or anyone else who's successfully re-authored the thing to DVD, what was your process for tackling the audio? I initially tried goldwave to pcm to AC3, but I've re-authored several times now, and it ALWAYS ends up slightly out of sync by the middle of the film. I have a gorgeous video after frameserving through VdubMod into Tmpgenc Plus though. Looks FAR better on the computer than on the TV, where block noise seems to show up much much worse.

I made the mistake of encoding it with NeroVision express at first, and I had a problem with the out of sync audio too, getting worse as the moivie went on. It made for a very Kung-Fu movie effect…Then I used the suggested divxtoDVD and rewrote the IFO files to put it all together and made a kickin’ DVD. The audio matched great! After a little fun with DVD Lab PRO, I made up somewhat authentic looking menus, and it’s as close as I think I can get to the real thing until November…

I doubt there are too many people looking for the solution that I was -- to convert these QPEL-encoded XviDs to a normal DivX file that I could watch on my DivX-capable DVD player. But just in case anyone gives a shit:

I searched several video forums over the last week or so looking for an answer, and it was funny to see how many people seemed to suddenly be interested in converting AVIs to DVD. The questions they asked made it pretty obvious what files they had in their possession. Finally I ended up on the DivX Forum (duh), in the Mac section, where a lot of folks were commenting on the fact that although QuickTime 7 doesn't support DivX, they WERE having success with the trial version of DivX Pro. It was only after paying for a fully registered version of the software that it stopped working for them.

The trial period is 15 days, so I figured it was worth a shot. I installed it last night and all of its options seemed to operate correctly in QuickTime. I opened up my copy of the second part of the XviD rip, set the conversion to give me a file that was just about the same size, and left the QPEL box unchecked.

And it fucking worked. Got a perfect DivX movie that plays just fine on my standalone player. I'm also guessing that this file will be a little more flexible if I attempt to build a DVD out of it.

Now I just have make sure that I put this software to every other use I need it for in the next 14 days.

I downloaded the KKi version. I think my new DivX movie might be a little clearer, just because I didn't have to stretch it out to DVD proportions (I did fix the ratio and audio channel lineup in QuickTime before converting, though).

All I wanted was a decent DivX rip that I could copy onto one DVD-R with the rips of TPM and AOTC (I've already got the OT similarly set up). I usually have stuff going on the TV while I work, and this gives me 6 and a half hours or so of Star Wars without having to change disks. With as much attention as I pay to the picture, though, I might have been just as happy with an audio-only rip.

Well, DivxtoDVD works, but the problem is that there's no way to apply any filters to the video stream, and it won't run on a frameserve from VirtualDub. This video absolutely needs to have the gamma lightened a bit, a little more saturation, and it looks fucking SEXY when you use a little bit of msharpen (unsharpenmask doesn't look as good to me) at a low threshhold. Plus, there's the old problem with the audio fuckup, and as far as I can tell, that has to be ripped, fixed, converted, and remuxed - no way to do it on the fly while you encode the video. (Darthpsychotic, I trust this isn't TOO basic to be thrown out of the thread?)

The problem seems to be, upon looking at the video files I've encoded, is that they invariably end up SLIGHTLY shorter than the original versions, and I have no clue why.

You're thinking about Goldwave. Virtualdub or Virtualdubmod doesn't have the option to switch channels. Also, it's better to rip to mp2 instead of ac3 when editing sound just so you don't have any information degradation.

First post, after reading and checking things out around here for months and months and months. Kick ass site, by the way.

Anyway, I finally got this sucker downloaded, and Put onto DVD. Looks pretty nice on my 51" HDTV. Looks really good when I screw around with the TV settings a bit. Sounds fine when passing through my receiver's prologic II.

Question is, what is the consensus as to which program to use for the best video and audio filtering options and quality. I've been checking around videohelp.com among other sites. Just seeing what people have had the best sucess with, and the best options, before I dowload 10 programs. I'm not a nub when it comes to transferring to DVD, and making kick-ass menus and the like, but I am when it comes to filtering out the crap that is on some of these downloads. Any good suggestions?

I use ffdshow to tweak the video. I upscale it to my monitor's native resolution (using Lanczos level 4), and apply a little luma and chroma sharpening. It looks sexy as hell. If you have a dozen hours or so, you could re-master the video and burn it with the ffdshow filters pre-applied to the final product.

Wow a dozen hours? I just encoded with SVCD2DVD, that took 2, but granted I didn't make it look all pretty. I was happy the way it looked on my 30" HDTV. I am waiting for the real DVD rip to leak

It actually turned out really well. I'm a bit of a retard when it comes to stuff like this, but after about 20 minutes of FAQ reading and other help topics I figured it all out. I made two cd's - the first time I did it I had it encode twice, and bizarrely that version turned out choppier/blockier than the single pass encode. Plus I was able to set up a sweet menu from one of the mf.com wallpapers posted here to the tune of Battle of the Heroes.

It works flawlessly now, and looks absolutely amazing on my large-screen tv. Seriously, i would almost swear it WAS the official DVD. Thanks for the heads up on the program! I've got a lot of other downloaded stuff that i'm gonna be burning to dvd soon with it.
