Adding to that bullshit, Id like to start a thread for a cut scene rollcall...maybe someone can do this for chrissake? Is it "1984" in here or does it just smell like it?

Because I pay motherfucking $60 a month for MF that's why.

It got to be too much for me because every cocksmoker from TFN, X-boards, TBone's, Nightly.net, Starwars.com, et al posting there own review threads, in addition to "So..." - type threads, and probably the worst...

threads by fucks who "discovered" the workprint and wanted to be the "first" to inform MF about it. Even though MF was pretty much the first to publically post about it (on the forums at least).

Hope you aren't taking my "swell" comment as sarcasm, DP. I completely support limiting the amount of crap that gets started here.

AK my comments weren't directed at you at all and I editted out your quote so users won't be misled.

Here we go again... MF does 300 to 600 gigbytes of bandwidth a month. There are several respectable members here who want me to stop registration and make the site "private".

The admins only thread thing is only temporary. If anyone wants to start a topic, do so in the Prequel Trilogy forum then contact a admin so we can move it to the EIII forum. If the topic is "worthy" we will move it promptly.

Alright, I don't want to change the thread creating policy but I recommend we start a pool to help pay DP for the costs of this site. 60 dollars a month is a lot of money no matter how you slice it, and we should help DP out for providing such a great resource over the past (few?) years. I'll be the first to go in with 5 or 10 bucks.

All it would take is a few people who use up DP's bandwith every month and he wouldn't have to forfeit any of his own personal funds that allow us to goof off in here.

I like your idea. Hell, if DP ran it through PayPal I'd just set my payment up so it would automatically transfer $5.00 a month from my account to his.

I really like these boards and would also be willing to help pay to help lift some financial stress from DP.

I'm sure both of you guys are sincere, but you must realize there's a downside to having people contribute -- and that's that eventually there's going to be any number of assbleeders who will start whining a "if we pay for it, we should able to do whatever we want" tune. And when they don't get what they want, they'll start demanding their money back.

I would also be happy to contribute, but at the same time I'm perfectly content with the notion that shouldering the burden of the costs alone means that DP can rule with an iron fist.

Well...that's true. It's obviously up to DP I'm just saying it's an idea to show some appreciation to DP. It could be like taxes. You pay your share but the govt can still screw you over if you mess with them.

If I contribute I don't want anything special out of it. I know that there would be some people who would probably carry that "since I'm paying we should get to run some shit" attitude. If that's the case tell them to stop helping pay and go fuck themselves.

I just thought that it would be a nice thing to do. Hell, $5.00 a month is really nothing to me. I'm paying more per month for satellite radio!

I'll reiterate:

Quote:
And when they don't get what they want, they'll start demanding their money back.

You can file a grievance with PayPal with zero trouble. You can ask for a chargeback on your credit card with zero trouble. Once there are enough dipshits doing that, that's a hassle that's far more annoying than dealing with the general running of the site.

This idea of contributing has come up before and it will probably continue. When there's a way to make it happen without headaches, I'm sure we'll all be made aware of it.

Damn! It's really too bad that needy little assholes have to screw up the process for those of us who are trying to be sincerely helpful. Oh well, I see your wisdom and will shut up about this now.

Being a bloody noobie here at MF, I gotta admit it's the most informative board on StarWars on the whole intardnet and I would really hate to be kicked out because of somebody else's bullshit (and not my own).

Sincerely, I would happily pay a monthly fee to help DarthPsychotic.
DP, I am registered at several "private" forums; thing is, "only" paying the fee won't get you in there. It's still the Admins decision. The main problem is, needed noobie-influx just won't happen, of course.

The influx of new members is going to quieten down within a month or two and the site will slow to a dribble once the RotS hype is over.

It's only temporary.

I long to return to those days, when MF was the "little site that could" and the first place for StarWars news, for a select bunch of intelligent posters...

I'm a LONG time lurker (since last July) and I agree with Biggs. The amount of pointless, TFN-esqe threads is growing extraordinarily annoying. Too bad Lucas couldn't have closed the "Whose Ani's Daddy" issue so the sheep would be silent. *sigh*

I agree with DP's decision. I don't know how many hits we're getting here a month, but it's gotta be in the tens, if not the hundreds of thousands. That's a LOT of spent bandwidth, and lots of nubs, kids, lurkers, and hangerons. Let a month or two go by and we'll be back to normal. Should be, anyway. Until then, we're gonna have to grab our ankles and bend over.

Deja Vu? Seems like we were having this discussion not too long ago. Bottom Line- this IS DP's site and we are his guests. I'm actually happy about this because there is a tsunami of newbies making all topics for the past couple months and very little response from the veterans. I enjoy the old topics that were just veterans dishing it out.

I graduated from one of the best universities in the entire world (University of California San Diego) with a bachelor of science in computer science and was a regent scholar there. I work with some of the most respected researchers in the world on a daily basis.

I make more money than you.

teehee! researchers don't make shit. in truth, i make a lot more money than you do, college boy. at your job, you work for the man. at my business, i am the man. i piss 60 bucks like it is nothing, you fucking superfriend; unlike you: "60 bucks is a lot of money any way you cut it."

Riiiight...I'm not a college boy anymore. I am also President of my own company that myself and my partners do work for in the San Diego area as well as the full time job I have. Yeah researchers driving around in a mercedes pulling in multi million dollar grants don't make good money. You have no absolutely clue what you're talking about so give up trying to sound like you do.

Unless you're pulling in quite a bit of money, I make more than you. And I'm 24 years old. 60 dollars a month is STILL a lot of money because I understand the value of a dollar and what that can buy for people. Pissing away 60 dollars is not an accomplishment. Anyone can do it, as can I, but that would make me pretty foolish wouldn't it? Just like you trying to prove something. Give it a rest and quit acting like a retard.

You're making me act like a dork so just drop it. I don't like this kinda stuff, especially on a star wars board but I can't let arrogant queers go off like that when the only thing people in here were suggesting is to help out someone who has given their time and money so that folk like you and I can piss away precious bandwith on complete crap like this.

I stand behind DP 100%

I know exactly where he's coming from, I run my own place on the web and it ain't cheap. Not to mention my wife admins an anime site is its the same crap there. These kids come in a figure that sites on the internet are like sitting in public having a conversation (except it in public most of them would get the shit beat out of em for what they get away with online) - that its free speech...

News flash! Most big websites are privately ran and like private property we are just visitors at the mercy of the owners. DP makes the rules here, no one here (or any other website) has the right to do anything on this website except DP.

Lets put it another way... Picture a website like a car... Imagine you own that car... It's your right to say who rides with you and who gets stuck on the curb. Would you want some geek coming up to you and demand you give him a ride? Websites are no different... Just because it's on the internet doesn't mean its a public place.

First time poster, long-time lurker. I'd pay to access the site. If everyone understood the ground rules and chipped in, it wouldn't be that bad.

Where else are you gonna find the quality discourse you find on MF?

DP, just let us know when you'll accept PayPal. I'm in.

Oh, and everybody please knock off the "my dick's bigger than your dick" babbling. Thanks.

I know I don't post here all that much, but I fully support measures like this.

If the other forum I frequent had a code like this, I'm positive we would have cut back on the bullshit that has been rampant within the last week(or the last year for that matter).

First off, a few moments or so after making the above angsty post I felt that maybe I was taking the internet too seriously. Though I still feel $60 a month is a lot of money to be throwing away on a website that may put my ass in a cell alongside Shea O'Brien Foley. A site that sorta has become too much work.

At the time of the post I was sorta on edge because former TFN'er, current starwars.com/LucasOnline chief, and anti-piracy@LFL.com emailer Paul "Ghent" Ens was doing his daily rounds here. That and dealing with workprint technical support and the usual new fucks who need to be removed.

One member a "dudeski" got a time out by having his MF account deactivated. "dudeski" then sends me this email:

Quote:
From: Lacey Sabeck <laceysabeck@yahoo.com>
To: darthpsychotic@gmail.com
Date: May 25, 2005 7:09 PM
Subject: donations

hello, your pal dudeski here. i was involved in a
discussion about the monthly costs of MF earlier, and
as much as i've enjoyed the site in the past, i feel
compelled to assist you with your monthly costs. it's
the least i could do for all the pleasure i've
received from browsing your site this last year. i
would like to pay for 3 months of your costs totaling
$180.00 US.

A cashiers check, or money order should suffice for
the receivement of said payment. if this offer is
acceptable to you, please get back to me. like i
said, it's the very least someone like me could do.

thanks!

dudeski

So I reactivated "dudeski" and then went out for the afternoon, not really thinking the donation offer was serious of course. Well apparently I was correct in taking the internet seriously because when I came back I literally spent two hours cleaning up forum shit.

The clean-up started off with dudeski - whose first post after being re-activated was "nigger please". Well I guess this sort of trolling is funny, promising a bunch of cheddar than posting "nigger" afterwards.

Of course "dudeski" has been removed and sent back to the fecal forums with his TFN superstar friends.

A MF paypal donation account is in the process of being setup in case anyone is seriously interested. :chewbacca:

God, I love to see trolls implode like that! Fun! And it happens to quickly.

Little bombs, rolling around the Earth, hoping to make a loud explosion as they pass away into the netherworld.

And anyone that will spend that much time proving to everyone on the forum (ie: strangers) just how great their lives are and how much $$$ or pussy they get truly should be given as much sympathy as we can afford. Their lives are a wrecked tragedy that plays themselves out for all to see. Sad. Sad.
