Here we go again... MF does 300 to 600 gigbytes of bandwidth a month. There are several respectable members here who want me to stop registration and make the site "private".

The admins only thread thing is only temporary. If anyone wants to start a topic, do so in the Prequel Trilogy forum then contact a admin so we can move it to the EIII forum. If the topic is "worthy" we will move it promptly.

Alright, I don't want to change the thread creating policy but I recommend we start a pool to help pay DP for the costs of this site. 60 dollars a month is a lot of money no matter how you slice it, and we should help DP out for providing such a great resource over the past (few?) years. I'll be the first to go in with 5 or 10 bucks.

All it would take is a few people who use up DP's bandwith every month and he wouldn't have to forfeit any of his own personal funds that allow us to goof off in here.

I like your idea. Hell, if DP ran it through PayPal I'd just set my payment up so it would automatically transfer $5.00 a month from my account to his.

I really like these boards and would also be willing to help pay to help lift some financial stress from DP.

I'm sure both of you guys are sincere, but you must realize there's a downside to having people contribute -- and that's that eventually there's going to be any number of assbleeders who will start whining a "if we pay for it, we should able to do whatever we want" tune. And when they don't get what they want, they'll start demanding their money back.

Well...that's true. It's obviously up to DP I'm just saying it's an idea to show some appreciation to DP. It could be like taxes. You pay your share but the govt can still screw you over if you mess with them.

If I contribute I don't want anything special out of it. I know that there would be some people who would probably carry that "since I'm paying we should get to run some shit" attitude. If that's the case tell them to stop helping pay and go fuck themselves.

You can file a grievance with PayPal with zero trouble. You can ask for a chargeback on your credit card with zero trouble. Once there are enough dipshits doing that, that's a hassle that's far more annoying than dealing with the general running of the site.

This idea of contributing has come up before and it will probably continue. When there's a way to make it happen without headaches, I'm sure we'll all be made aware of it.

DP, I am registered at several "private" forums; thing is, "only" paying the fee won't get you in there. It's still the Admins decision. The main problem is, needed noobie-influx just won't happen, of course.

The influx of new members is going to quieten down within a month or two and the site will slow to a dribble once the RotS hype is over.

I'm a LONG time lurker (since last July) and I agree with Biggs. The amount of pointless, TFN-esqe threads is growing extraordinarily annoying. Too bad Lucas couldn't have closed the "Whose Ani's Daddy" issue so the sheep would be silent. *sigh*

I agree with DP's decision. I don't know how many hits we're getting here a month, but it's gotta be in the tens, if not the hundreds of thousands. That's a LOT of spent bandwidth, and lots of nubs, kids, lurkers, and hangerons. Let a month or two go by and we'll be back to normal. Should be, anyway. Until then, we're gonna have to grab our ankles and bend over.

Deja Vu? Seems like we were having this discussion not too long ago. Bottom Line- this IS DP's site and we are his guests. I'm actually happy about this because there is a tsunami of newbies making all topics for the past couple months and very little response from the veterans. I enjoy the old topics that were just veterans dishing it out.

News flash! Most big websites are privately ran and like private property we are just visitors at the mercy of the owners. DP makes the rules here, no one here (or any other website) has the right to do anything on this website except DP.

I know I don't post here all that much, but I fully support measures like this.

If the other forum I frequent had a code like this, I'm positive we would have cut back on the bullshit that has been rampant within the last week(or the last year for that matter).

First off, a few moments or so after making the above angsty post I felt that maybe I was taking the internet too seriously. Though I still feel $60 a month is a lot of money to be throwing away on a website that may put my ass in a cell alongside Shea O'Brien Foley. A site that sorta has become too much work.

At the time of the post I was sorta on edge because former TFN'er, current starwars.com/LucasOnline chief, and anti-piracy@LFL.com emailer Paul "Ghent" Ens was doing his daily rounds here. That and dealing with workprint technical support and the usual new fucks who need to be removed.

One member a "dudeski" got a time out by having his MF account deactivated. "dudeski" then sends me this email:



So I reactivated "dudeski" and then went out for the afternoon, not really thinking the donation offer was serious of course. Well apparently I was correct in taking the internet seriously because when I came back I literally spent two hours cleaning up forum shit.

The clean-up started off with dudeski - whose first post after being re-activated was "nigger please". Well I guess this sort of trolling is funny, promising a bunch of cheddar than posting "nigger" afterwards.

Of course "dudeski" has been removed and sent back to the fecal forums with his TFN superstar friends.

A MF paypal donation account is in the process of being setup in case anyone is seriously interested.

Using various machines on a network, apparently. For all the shit he gave Dr. Bass about being a "college boy," it looks like he's the one posting from some school library somewhere.
