I hate to ask this, but what program is cool for turning the vob into an AVI?

For anyone who isn't going to burn it, all you have to do to watch it in the right aspect ration on your computer (once it is a video file, which I am still trying to find out how to do), you just play it in DIXV where you can set the aspect ratio.

why would anyone want this crappy copy instead of the DVD, im sure no one here will download instead of getting the DVD when it comes out, we just need somthing to watch when where not in the theaters seeing it again

I'm a new poster, but I've been lurking for a little while now, I like your boards here as it is a far more mature and controlled board than TFN or even the OS for that matter, not that they don't have their share of cool people too. I had a question. I've got the 690MB version of episode III, but I wanted the 1.4GB one. I have access to my ISP's news server, but I cannot access 'alt.binaries.dvdr.' I have access to 'news.la.sbcglobal.net' as my only news server. How do I get into alt.binaries.dvdr using my news server. I have been using Outlook express as my news reader(I know i'm an idiot)....

so nobody knows how to convert the iso to divx?

I don't have a DVD burner, is there any other way to view the file? Espevially if I can convert it to an AVI?

I don't have any experience with Outlook. I recommend using something like Grabit or Xnews. Grabit is generally quite user friendly.

It shouldn't be too hard to set up I don't think.

Pelinester, how did you do / learn to fix the ratio issue? I have a HD TV that allows me to fuck with ratio sizes, so the original copy was not a problem, however the new fixed ratio plays better on my friends TV and on my folks.

Hmm...the aspect ratio fix didn't work...but I burned and watch anyways...Same as the theatrical and DLP version. I'm on my way to the theatre tomorrow morning for another round!!

The aspect was still 1:85 or close, not 2:35:1....I'll have to check out that site.

Hey, does anyone know if I can resume my download if my computer restarted. I've been downloading for like 40 hours, and just when I was almost done, fucking windows decides to automatically update and restart. What a fucking piece of shit.

Right now I'm starting all over, but if anyone knows how to resume using BitTornado let me know.

That was a scene release.

It's got me stuffed. The only selections for AR seem to be 4:3, Unspecified, Reserved or 16:9. The scene released IFO is set to 16:9. I tried playing with the resolutions but that didn't do me any good.

Could somebody help me please. I extracted the video file just fine, put there is nothing in the Audio folder when I go to extract. I get the picture, but no audio. Or, how do I convert the ISO file into something I can play on my computer?

Has anyone been able to get this to work in a stand alone dvd player?

umm.. well, that pretty much describes me. I have the work print solely for scanning sirectly to certain scenes (though the chapter/title setup of the DVD frankly sucks ass). but I have already seen the movie twice and will likely see it a few more times. great movie, crappy workprint.

That's IFOEdit, and no, it doesn't exist for Macs. But if I understand it correctly, it won't give you anything "wider" than 16:9, because those are the dimensions of widescreen TVs. Further, if I get it, the image area of all 2.35:1 DVDs fits into a 16:9 rectangle, the remaining space of which is blacked out. (right? Someone will straighten me out if I'm wrong, no doubt...)

Problem: Even with the 16:9 fix, the image is "stretched" in the vertical direction, since 16:9 = 1.78, not 2.35, and the standalone player thinks it must fill the whole screen with the picture.

Solution: A quick and dirty trick to get an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 without downloading crappy re-encoded versions.

Required: Standalone DVD player and widescreen TV/display/whatever.

First, burn the Workprint with the 16:9 corrected IFO files onto DVD.

Then, change your DVD player's settings from "Widescreen" or "16:9" (which you would normally use with widescreen TV) to "Normal/LB" or "4:3" or whatever the setup menu says. This displays the 16:9 image inside a 4:3 frame on the TV screen.

Insert DVD. Use your television set's built-in zoom function (should be found on most widescreen TV's) to change the picture to "Widescreen". (16:9 zoom won't do, since it maintains the aspect ratio.) Effectively, you are now stretching the 4:3 picture to 16:9... a quick calculation tells that (4:3) * (16:9) = 2.37 which is almost the correct aspect ratio.

EDIT! Did not realize, but you do not need standalone DVD player for the above trick, if you have TV Out connection on your computer's display adapter. Might even work with a widescreen monitor...

Ok, I finished downloading the iso file but when I try to mount it with Daemon tools it won't play. Is my file corrupted or am I doing something wrong?

Guys, I would recommend AGAINST downloading the fucked up AR-corrected versions.
They have significantly lower visual quality due to the "corrections".

You don't even have to use tmpgenc or any other software to fix the aspect ratio, just play it on Zoomplayer and use FFDSHOW for manual size adjust for a superior image.

Anyone who is watching this on a computer (I have an HTPC rig running through a 50 inch Samsung DLP tv), do this:

Use Zoomplayer Pro with Dscaler 5 (beta) as video output; use FFDSHOW as additional "filters" and use FFDSHOW's resizing and noise reduction features with sharpness. Also make sure you use VMR9 windowless output if your video card supports it (overlay will give you better performance though).

Absolutely awesome image quality; you can upscale the native resolution depending on how good your hardware is. I have upped the resolution of the video to 1680x1050 and it looks gorgeous. I play all my DVDs at this res.

What you guys are watching is a shitty transfer. It's a VCD that's been authored as a DVD. It has VCD MPEG-1 video/MP2 audio. It's 352x240. It's 1150kbps. It's the wrong aspec ratio: 4:3. The "fix" changes the AR to the other DVD-spec AR which is 16:9 - AKA 1.85:1. This is still not correct. The correct AR is ~ 2.35:1. 2.35:1 is not a valid DVD-spec AR> You'd need to either reencode to 16:9 letterboxed or filter it on-the-fly as suggested by Damion to make it work. This boot truly is crap. If your DVD player won't play VCD's, I doubt it will play this "DVD".

Just a thought, but google.com or videohelp.com may be much better places to take this "whaa! OMG, HELP! IT don't werk!" troubleshooting rather than here on the MF boards where LFL likes to read their news. The information you get there will be more helpful than 90% of the posts here anyways.

Hi, I have a quick question. I have the file downloaded but when I go to play it on my computer (using daemon to mount the image) then play it on the default dell media experience dvd player) the video is jumpy and pixelated. Is anyone else having this problem or does anyone have any suggestions for me to get this to play right?

Assuming all the files are in the same folder, open up the first one with winrar. select all the files in that archive and drag and drop them into the folder. it should piece all the files back together automatically.

I'm making an ultra-compressed divx copy and one version will have a corrected aspect ratio.

For any Mac people using VLC to view the VOB's, if you go into preferences, under 'video', and check 'advanced' button at bottom left, you can then scroll down and then find a field to enter the aspect ratio of the source video. Sorry if that's obvious, but it took me a while to find it.

I did what everyone said and looked at an FAQ for torrents. Helped a little but I couldn't find the answer to one question I had. So please don't flame me for asking this and saying I should look it up...since I did and couldn't find the answer. In the FAQs, they make it sound like Seeds will make the download go fast, but right now I have 67 seeds and it's going nowhere. Now when I get alot of peers, it starts downloading well. I thought seeds were better than peers.

Install Daemon Tools, right click the "Lightning Icon" in your taskbar > Virtual CD/DVD-ROM > No Media > Mount Image

Select the ROTS iso, play it in your Media Player like you would a CD/DVD and enjoy.

No idea why it is called workprint...its the same as celluloid and DLP.

OK, a slightly different question, just because I've wondered this for awhile.

How is this movie shown on digital projectors? Is it literally a DV file? And if so, what would be involved in compressing that source material down to a size that can be shared online? I'm not looking for a specific how-to here, I'm just wondering what the likelihood is of an excellent-quality bootleg showing up online in the very near future.

All I know is that the movie was delivered on a hard drive...no clue as to the rest.

Hi chaps, I've been trying to watch it on DivX and annoyingly it stops every 20-30 minutes. I can usually restart it 30 seconds or so later in the film (i.e. missing a scene or two), but to make things worse it does it right at the end - i.e. I miss the imolation thingy scene.

Any thoughts?

Hey folks, I've got the .ISO file, but I'm not sure I'll be able to play it. I don't have a DVD-ROM, so Daemon doesn't seem to work, is there anyway to play this thing without a DVD-ROM? I don't care about burning it, I just want to play it on my PC. If I'm screwed just let me know, I'll head back to the theater and not spend all day fucking with this.
