Palpatine's leap looks gay.

The move Mace is doing is called "black dragon lashes tail" in Bagua Kung Fu. It rolls behind on the right side of the body, crosses low across the front of the body and then describes a circle on the left side of his body (the circle goes backwards and down and then up and forward). The move looks cool and the weapon builds up a lot of speed while it's going through it.




It looks like he's breaking the window as he starts the circle over on the left side.

For what it's worth, Anakin does exactly the same move in the Obi & Anakin vs. Dooku footage. They change positions and both attack Dooku at the same time. Dooku blocks them both. The attack that Anakin made was at the end of black dragon lashes tail.

Palpatine's leap looks so damn cartoony, especially coming from an old man.

Definitely, I concur. The spin makes no sense, its obviously not going to ruin the scene for me, but I just prefer the jumpcut used in the trailer.

Isn't the objective of movies to entertain? Maybe the spin is just supposed to look cool, and doesn't have to serve a purpose.

I remember Jackie Chan did a very similar move to Palps' twirl in Drunken Master 2 and I thought it was cool there. And very few movie fight scenes are realistic, or should be. The OT fight scenes were no more realistic. The ROTJ duel was particularly bad, and the ANH duel was a joke. Prowse didn't even know how to fence, and it showed. In ROTJ, Mark Hamill is obviously just hitting Bob Anderson's lightsaber and not really attacking at all. The ESB duel looked pretty good, but it pales next to the TPM duel visually, although the storyline is of course great.

Besides, movies like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and House of Flying Daggers have even more flighty martial arts, but they're held in high regard-as they should be.

the quick, abrupt attack in the trailer is what i was expecting.

sids should of at least lost a hand for pulling that in front of 4 jedi.

I think Sidious should have just snapped his fingers, killing all Jedi save for Mace instantly á la Matrix-unplug.

Yes that would have been very plausible, as well as aid in the building up and release of suspense in a scene.

Unless maybe it was one of those "girlfriend!" snaps where he does 3 in a Z pattern with a limp wrist and then twirls at the jedi. That certainly would catch them off guard.

I asked this before but was told wrong, which of these six download links has Mace falling?? I tried the second one as someone said, but that's NOT the one with Mace falling. Does anyone know???

If memory serves, it was the first in the series that has Mace falling. And to be honest, it really isn't that exciting. It is him being pulled through a broken window with a bluescreen behind him.
