We already have three movies where suited Vader fights with a saber.

The prequels are the Anakin's time to shine. Besides, he'll be Vader once he joins Palpatine. Obi-Wan battles Vader, suit or no.

Will we see Vader fight with a saber?

Remember, by mid-Episode III, Anakin is Vader. :heavymetal:

I'd say that's a big negatory. I think Anakin kills just about everyone he can sans suit. I want it more then just about anything but we have 3 OT films where Vader delivers the beat down.

Last thing I want to see is armor-vader jumping and twisting around like Anakin does.

But hey, we still got some Wookies laying the smackdown...

See, the whole thing goes back to what Obi said in ANH.

“Vader helped the Emperor hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights.”

Now we know that he meant Anakin. Of course, back then he wasn’t going to say that to Luke.

I think that because of Obi’s words, many felt that their duel would take place early in Episode III and then we’d see Anakin participate in the Jedi purge as suited Vader.

Personally, I don’t distinguish between the two. For me, bad Anakin is Vader. I would like to see Anakin doing these things pre-injury as opposed to being in the suit.

I think it will have more emotional resonance.

Also, DP keeps hearing that Anakin may already be going by the name Vader before the duel with Kenobi, so that just adds to it.

As has been said, we have three Vader suited duels in the OT. We have no Anakin doing very bad things to other Jedi sans suit.

I think it will really be something spectacular to see. :monocle: :heavymetal:

Yeah he did... but that's the problem. People need to learn to dissociate Vader from the suited hulking man in black. Anakin is Vader as soon as he goes bad, as Hade says. So in that vain, YES, we will see Vader wield a lightsaber. Many times in fact.

I understand that but that argument won't hold.

If he is still known as Anakin Skywalker it's all moot. As much as we want the name to coincide with him turning bad, if he's not given the name VADER until Sidious rescues him then it's all irrelevant - no matter how much we want him to be Vader earlier in the flick.

I was under the impression the exact time of naming was unknown?

I haven't heard anything on it actually. If that's the case then it's news to me.

The only official comment I remember is that McCallum said in his August 13th Hyperspace chat that there will be a scene involving the naming of Vader and why he has that name.

Well I suppose other people can believe whatever they want. No matter what the timing, once he goes bad he's a Sith and thus Darth Vader.

Am I the only one who thinks Anakin will not be Vader until AFTER the duel?

According to PH, Vader has TURNED at the time of the duel - but doesn't take on his iconic form until later.

I figure once he turns evil, he's basically Vader.

Killing younglings, choking his wife, and attacking Obi-Wan counts in my book.

It sounds increasingly like he won't be named Vader until after he is rescued from the lava pit.

Truth be told, I don't think a suited Vader coukd kill any of the PT-era Jedi.
The guys a mechanical cripple with the speed and finesse of Oprah.
Even Kit Fisto could knock him on his arse with a grin.

Yeah, I agree with Fats. I really hope he gets the name right after he kills Mace and Company, and if not there, at LEAST before the duel.

The fact that there isn't any red sabers in the duel to me is a strong indication that he won't be Vader until after the lava dip. Vader weilding a blue saber just doesn't fit.

There's the death of Windu--opportunity there. The BEST opportunity, being as that solidifies his turn (this scene is the "Choice" scene that everyone's been talking about. Anakin makes his choice to join AT THAT MOMENT--after all the manipulation Palps laid down on him in the Theater)

I'm thinking that it's not so much a choice to become a Sith as a choice to fully ally himself with Palpatine and his ideals (as AotC has set up for us). The Jedi are traitors, so in essence he is that last Jedi that remained loyal to the Old Republic. Perhaps it helps that Palps has promised him additional powers in the force, demonstrated by his lighting on Windu (or cheating death). But just like the Jedi, he must pass his trial before becoming Sith (whether this is a concious test or not I do not know). His test is the Seperatists, the Jedi Temple, and Obi-Wan. Also Sidious must ensure that Padme is dead (or have Anakin think she's dead) before he can fully turn Anakin. Vader can't exist unless all love is gone.

"THAT name no longer has any meaning, for me."

Lucas won't recycle lines like that or "What is thy bidding, my master" ... he'll come up with some original cool lines for Vader methinks. :)

Passing up a suited Vader fighting seems like it would be hard to do, given that he took a chance a Yoda in AotC. A suited Vader fighting would be a sure thing you would think, not as much of a risk as what he did with Yoda. I'm not so sure that just because we haven't heard reports of a sequence that there isn't one ... one can only hope anyways. ;)

I just don't see how he can be Vader with Padme still around. Doesn't he supposedly see her before his mission to Mustafar?

I have no concrete proof either way and I think I made mention of that earlier. My reasoning is that this 'Sith Naming Ritual" that has been rumoured is total balls. I think it'll be more Sidious just saying something possibly along the lines of:

The ruined and wrecked body of Anakin Skywalker is no more. What emerges is a ghastly black figure of evil, now a total slave to the dark side to keep his faltering body alive. Tubes and medical instruments protude from the body as medical droids hastily fix the final breathing apparatus to the armour.
Another frail figure walks in dressed in black robes cackling under the hood.

"Welcome home, Lord Vader. You are now.....mine!"

There is a stirring from the black figure as the breathing apparatus kicks in and the all-too-familiar breathing patterns become more regular.
