I hope Ford strikes a balance and maintains a sense of the rough-around-the-edges scoundrel we all love.

i know they need to get a move on to get them into production but i bet they try and keep the casting and title announcements for "events" like celebration, may 4th, comic-con etc where they can bring the reunited cast out? the jj announcement seemed rushed as it was leaked, the ford thing was leaked but not officially announced a few days later like jj so maybe not 100% yet its usually when someone gets an early peek at the press release

No way Tony Daniels says no - he lives for this shit - and Billy Dee has practically begged to have a role.

I don't think there's going to be any contractual impediments to signing the original cast. The more interesting thing for me is seeing where JJ and co go for the new crop of protagonists. Star Wars works better when faces are unfamiliar or barely familiar.

We are likely months away from any news of significance.

Surely TPTB understand this concept, right?

IMO, Lando is the best choice for Supreme Chancellor. He's the "respectable one," after all.

It's hard for me to see Lando as anything but an expanded cameo. I agree that he could be either a politician or a Republic General.

Not to get too off topic here but I've always read the Star Wars films (the prequels in particular) as extremely subversive.

The fact that Lucas wrote against type for Anakin, inserted the idea of midichlorians, (which I always thought went back to his background in anthropology and view regarding religion that all the religions are true.

Religions just happen to see a different part of the elephant) and worked in themes such as the easily corrupted nature of institutions, the fallibility of our mentors and parents, fate/destiny vs. choice (see "Jedi's" finale when, after being told that he must kill Vader, Luke decides against the wisdom of Obi-Wan and Yoda and instead casts his lightsaber aside).

Heck, even the notion of beginning a sprawling, galactic space opera with a silly trade dispute all seems to be working against what we think Star Wars (or a summer blockbuster for that matter) should be.

Granted, most of this is stuff is glossed over (or loathed) by audiences but the older I get, the more of this stuff I find when sitting down to watch the movies and I love that. This is what I fear we're going to lose when Abrams steps behind the camera.

I agree. The importance I will give to the sequel trilogy will greatly depend on the amount of George's involvement with it.

If that's the case, the baggage that goes with the Skywalker bloodline is the logical story path to take. And forget the kids for the moment, what has Vader's legacy done Luke and Leia?

No matter how committed they are to the good side, how could Darth Vader not affect every decision they make? No EU bullshit here.

The effects of the prequels would haunt them every day of their lives.

Not sure that he was annoyed, so much as just being his usual reticent and coy self. Good for him.

Fisher confirms her part in VII and mentions personal trainer.

Again, she's being a smart ass. How can people not get her sense of humor? That quote is dripping with sarcasm and wit. Not that I think she won't be in it, but the quote doesn't "confirm" jack shit.

Ian McCaig and Doug Chiang are back as concept artists at LFL, although the release doesn't metion Ep VII specifically.

From SW.com, prequel concept artists Doug Chiang and Iain McCaig will be at Celebration VII and be doing concept work for Ep. 7.


I don't know if this was announced previously, but my optimism for Ep. 7 just went up a couple notches, knowing these guys are on board for the sequels. Always admired their work.

Would love for Chloe Grace Moretz to be part of the sequel trilogy.

Honestly, Carrie Fisher looks so awful that they'd be better off rendering a CG Leia for Episode 7. Her face is stuck in permanent duckface from all her surgery.

Fisher is the one I am most concerned about. Ford looks OK and Hamill will be OK after a month long run in the sand hills.

I met Carrie Fisher in person last year and got to shoot the shit with her for about 20 minutes. I thought she looked fine. She looks nothing like her former self, but she doesn't look as bad as people insist.
