watched maybe half so far. It kind of feels like the honeymoon is over. Mickey Rourke is imposing, interesting, good accent, but his final suit was generic at best and posed no real threat. Couldn't they at least COLOR the thing differently???

Anyone notice the scene from the trailer where Tony is talking to Pepper in the plane and she drops his helmet out the back for him to go get it.... well it's completely missing. He just jumps out the back. :what: I liked that scene! Why get rid of it?

As far as easter eggs, I've read that there's a glimpse of Hulk destruction on a monitor somewhere. Anything else?

Should see this next week in the theaters.

I tried watching the cam last night but I'll just hold off until I see it tonight in IMAX. For some reason I'm just not that pumped about this flick.

in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, the cast talks about Mickey Rourke's method acting techniques in this film. He went to a Russian prison and has a russian girlfriend to learn the accent. Also, while filming, he demanded certain music to be BLASTING while filming his scenes. During the scene in the trailer when he's at the race and coming at the screen while whipping, he had Amy Winehouse's Rehab song pumping in the speakers!

I'm gonna preface my review of Iron Man 2 by saying that I often love the movies you hate. Phantom Menace? Love it. X-Men 3? Love it. Spider-Man 3? Love it. Let's take it back to SUPERMAN 3. Yep, love it. And you know I love Star Trek 3, but then again I'll assume most do.

So what do I like about Iron Man 2? It's the classic "pride cometh before the fall" story. Starks is a major dick in this movie. I actually hated him in the first 30 or so minutes of the movie and started thinking 'this movie sucks! it's just more Tony Starks but now he thinks he created god.'

Then things get interesting. Whiplash, Justin Hammer, Blackwidow and death all come knocking on his door, along with Nick Fury.

That's what I love about this movie. Tony Starks is getting pulled in all different directions and he can't make heads nor tales of it. For all his pride and arrogance, he's clueless and he knows it. And it could kill him.

Now let me just say that before seeing this thing I didn't have much if any background on Scarlett's Blackwidow character.

I assumed she was a villain, that's my level of ignorance of the Iron Man comics- no idea who this chick was, although I would read about the lack of a Russian accent and that she was a spy on certain sites. So when it turns out she's part of SHIELD and with Nick Fury, ah ok I was genuinely surprised- in a good way obviously. Incidentally I love the vagueness of her character initially, and even Starks is curious and confused by her. I think that's part of the genius of this movie. Unless you know her character, and face it most people do not, Starks essentially voices the audiences curiosity about her character. And she kicks major ass effortlessly so.. and she's hot, 'nuff said.

Rourke's Whiplash is bad ass. Mickey Rourke is kind of a scary person period, in this role he's really scary, especially during the Monaco scenes when he casually walks on the track and starts cutting formula 1 cars in half. That shit was dope and easily falls under the category of 'never seen that before!', which makes it seriously cool. Although then the cars starting crashing into each other to avoid hitting Whiplash and there's the extreeemely overused 'explosion behind a main character' shot. But hey again, never seen formula 1 cars smashing into each other and exploding. And when Whiplash zeros in on Starks and starts unleashing his barrage of electro whipping- it's pretty scary because he's crazy and serious about his craziness. Like I wouldn't want to be around this guy at that moment.

But as much as the Monaco race sequence is talked about and touted, I have to say I was more impressed by the end battle involving War Machine and the drones. It's just massive and really well done.

There's no shortage of coolness in this movie. That to me is what makes it so good. A lot of movies these days lack the cool factor, but IM2 has it to spare. Even when Starks is drunk off his ass clowning around in his Iron Man suit in front of bitches throwing watermelons for him to blast- it's still cool. These scenes in particular are shot really good, very darkly lit and yet you get a good sense of where this mans mind is. He's losing it because he knows he's losing against his biggest foe of all: death. And when Don Cheadle dons the Mark 2 suit and fights Iron Man, it's pretty nice. Again lots of coolness.

All of it is shot pitch-perfect, as if there really is no other way to film this stuff. Some of it is corny but a lot of it is cool and gets the point across without flaunting it.

For example; I especially liked the scene in which Tony is watching old movies of his father. Tony is reminded of how much of a bastard his father was and suddenly as if from beyond the grave his father talks to him through the old movie. It's pretty deep. Sure it can be construed as corny but it's also deep.

There are a lot of times when Starks appears to hit a really low point and his character is minimalized. Again I like this approach, as if he's essentially treated as a big spoiled kid- because in reality he is one. It's only his braveness in confronting danger when he rises above his own human limitations and saves the world.

Sam Rockwell's Justin Hammer is a serious slime ball. I've seen Rockwell in other movies act like an asshole but he really perfects it in this movie. I'm glad they allowed his character as much screen time as he gets, which is a lot.

So to me this is a real sequel, it expands upon the characters and the scope of the Iron Man movies.

And maybe more importantly, it makes me want to see it over and over again, which is something the first movie didn't do for me.

I thought it was about as good as the first. The real coup of these movies lies with the casting. While the writing is strong, I felt the screenplay as a whole fell flat. Not enough is done with these characters and Rourke's Whiplash is sort of a non-starter for me. Also the third act could've used more finessing, it just feels rushed and the action scene payoff at the end just "happens" (if you get my meaning) without much build up.

Just my initial impressions. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen though. Downey doesn't quite one up himself here (maybe that's a good thing) but he's certainly the franchise's crown jewel and holds the cast together nicely.

watched the bootleg in full. loved the movie. I was afraid it was going to not have the charm of the first movie but this does what a sequel is suppose to do, continue the story, add to the characters, and not suck.

Stark is a dick in much of this movie. I realize now why they changed the airplane scene with him and Pepper, it's too early of a payoff for these two. Stark saying "you complete me" after she kisses his helmet, it says they're a couple now at the onset of the film. Stark is too involved with himself at this point to have room for Pepper and would only confuse the later scenes of them arguing constantly. Good cut.

Mickey Rourke is awesome. Period. He demands your attention every moment he's on the screen. The final battle at the end was over too quickly for him though, no real tension. I also wish his final suit was more stylized. It just seemed like War Monger's suit from the first film with whips. That's about my only complaint.

Great sequel. It's funny as all hell too. Captain America's shield is used too!

did everyone know that the movie's director, Jon Favreau, plays the driver/security guy for Stark in this?? He's in the entire movie! Even writing himself into a scene where Scarlett Johansson wraps her legs around his head and later undresses in his car! pathetic

You mean just like he was in the last movie? I don't see the big deal, he's been a capable actor for a long time.

Yeah, same character-Happy Hogan. I thought most people recognized him as an actor first. ("Swingers" anybody?) By the way, Favreau didn't write the movie; it was penned by Justin Theroux (also an actor on occasion).

Mickey Rourke says most actors suck

www.contactmusic.com mickey-rourkes-actor-dislike_1141686

[hr]
Mickey Rourke has little time for other actors and says many of them ''suck'' at their jobs.

Mickey Rourke doesn't respect many other actors.

The 57-year-old star - who received critical acclaim for his role as Randy 'The Ram' Robinson' in 'The Wrestler' - believes few people in Hollywood are as professional as they let on and claims many of them "suck".

He said: "You can be less than mediocre and be a f*****g movie star. I have respect for very few actors and actresses. Some of them get a lot of acclaim but just because their movie made $200 million at the box office; they still suck. I got no respect for them and I used to let them know it."

However, the leading man now prefers to keep out of arguments with other actors, and maintains dignity when he doesn't like a co-star.

He told Parade.com: "It was important for me to put that aside and go, 'You know what? This is a business. If you kiss the right a*s and you get lucky on a movie or two, you could last 10 years.' So, now, I just keep my mouth shut and pet my chihuahuas."

Recently Mickey revealed his distaste for one nameless actress, who he claimed "s**ts herself" whenever filming begins.

He said: "If they know their work, fine, if they're don't, f**k 'em. I worked with an actress recently who, despite having a reputation as a 'good actress', s**ts herself when that little red light comes on. She's fooled everyone into thinking she's a lot better than she is.

Just came back.

First impressions:
- I was entertained
- Not as charming or endearing as the first
- Not as tight a narrative; a bit sloppy towards the end
- Favs brought a bit more cliche to the table, which was really what Iron Man 1 avoided well
- action and sfx were far superior
- Whiplash becomes useless after the escape for most of the flick
- Didn't totally buy Rhodes' transformation or selling out Tony
- Loved the final scene
- Loved the Avengers stuff, though it was a bit distracting from the plot
- Still not sure why Black Widow was in the movi except for Johansen to collect a pay check and look hot for a couple scenes
- Paltrow's role was much less interesting
- I hate to say it, but Downey mailed a couple scenes in...at least I didn't get the impression that he dominated the screen as he did the first go around

Will see it again and update with a review

I saw the movie again last night and thought about this too. To me it felt like "Iron Man 2" was, in some ways, designed to do the heavy lifting of setting up the other films Marvel has in the pipeline rather than just tell a compelling story with these characters (which probably explains why Marvel was in a rush to get this into theaters so soon after the first). Don't get me wrong, the film is still engaging just not to the degree of the first.

Also: did the scene where footage of Hammer's failed Iron Man knock-offs played during the senate hearing remind anyone else of a similar moment in "Robocop 2" where the new prototype models are introduced to the OCP brass?

Robocop 2, partially written by Frank Miller. Yup, I was reminded. Was it Iran's model that twisted the guy to face his ass? !! brutal

Gary Shandling was great too.

Talking to a few people, I think a lot of the negative or mixed reaction to this film stems from the characterization of Stark in the flick. In the first, it was easy to get behind the guy and go along for the ride. Now, Stark's entitlement attitude just seems to rub people the wrong way. I think that's definitely the point the filmmakers were trying to make here and I for one appreciated it. However not enough happens in the movie to humble the guy and bring him around.

If they really are going to go ahead with the "Demon in the Bottle" storyline in a future film (or films) they're going to have to treat it with kid gloves so as not to completely turn the audience off.

I don't think he had a sense of entitlement. i think he sort of came off as a dick because he was so apathetic towards everything because he thought he was going to die. This was Downey's angle and it worked brilliantly

Entitlement may have been a poor choice of words on my part. That said, I really don't think Stark's dickness was caused by a bout of apathy but rather sheer recklessness as a result of his condition; it's not that he didn't care, he just flat out didn't give a fuck.

I assume everyone stuck around for Thor's Hammer after the credits?

So where are they going with the storyline? Hulk has a cameo of Tony Stark and Nick Fury, Capt Americas shield also gets a cameo, now the God of Thunder looks like he will make an appearance?

It's just setup for the big "Avengers" movie, that's all. What I want to know is-what kind of threat would necessitate the coming of these heroes in order to work together for a common goal? If the "Avengers" movie is being planned just to throw all of these characters together in one movie then what's the point?
