The ROTJ Star Destroyer crash looks good to me - looks like it's been re-comped or something.

I've been getting PMs asking about changes made to the trilogy - go back through this strand and you'll see what they are, however, just to confirm:

- No, the Imperial March has NOT been added to A New Hope

- No, there are no new scenes.

- Yes, the sabers are inconsistent (often even within a scene) but overall there are probably only a dozen or so shots throughout the trilogy that have been redone badly (pink saber, Luke's white saber in a few shots etc)

- I have already posted loads of screencaps (look back over this thread) of practically every change noted, plus commentary clips

- No I haven't posted many Jedi pics because it's freely available everywhere, so what's the point. Likewise with pack shots.

- No, I'm not responsible for the ROTJ rip. That is from someone else.

I won't be responding to any more PMs that ask questions that have already been covered a number of times in this thread.

Hey Darthfirst just 2 little questions.

1. Battle of Yavin : Is R2 still B/W?

2. Did they fix the Audio-Delay in Empire ?
I'm talking about the shot where Luke runs out of the Wampas Lair und u can cleary hear that the Lightsaber turns off too early.

Thx

The only thing I want to know is when the bitorrent links for IV and V are going to be up. Or maybe the digital artist is still hard at work.

Good idea: Naboo in ROTJ
Bad idea: Hayden in ROTJ

There is an interesting picture at the following link (a John Williams fan site). Does anyone know if this picture of Vader's death scene is legit? Everything I have seen states that only the ghost of Anakin has changed in the DVD of ROTJ, but not the actual death scene. Does anyone know if this is a real screen capture or not??

http://jwfan.net/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=5194&start=350

The picture is about 3/4 of the way down the page.

The box and disc art is all over the net. If I was lying, I'd just go and print it off and dummy up some packaging, so what does that prove? I've already proved it dude with the trillions of screengrabs and a few commentary samples, whether you choose to believe or not is entirely your choice and it affects me with a care factor of about zero.

Can't WAIT til September when all these TFN losers' heads start imploding when they see their precious white saber! Hilarious!

For the record DF, I'm more dissatisfied with the lack of continuity in Vader's ROTS suit than I am about the white saber.

Still, it is annoying:

... back covers are same style as Prequels; use menu pics
(ANH= Tatooine, ESB=Dabobah, ROJ= Jabba Palace)

in the top corners, summary of the film over main graphic
(ANH= X-Wings attack Death Star, ESB= When AT ATs Attack, ROJ = Falcon fleeing Death Star 2).

I'm sure these are all over the web. The cover design & spines nicely compliment the PTs when on the shelf together.

... I'm not taking them into work to scan them - not a good vibe me walking around with Star Wars DVDs months before they're out.

I really haven't got time to type out the movie summaries either - you know what happens in 'em anyway!

I'm sure the covers are out there - do a Google search.

I'm surprised I haven't heard anything about it in the Hayden vs Shaw discussions. Every bit of discussion I have heard states that it is only the ghost scene that changes (even the home page of MF.com )

Hey all

I found the out-takes reel on the bonus disc last night - it's pretty cool, a compilation of out-takes along with DVD credits similar to the PT goof reels.

Footage of stormtroopers falling over as they board the Blockade Runner, Luke running from Giant Cardboard Rancor (!).

Also, Billy Dee unable to remember his lines aboard the Falcon, Luke confronting Vader on Endor and screwing up his lines, lots more.

Best of all is Vader picking up Palpatine and Palp's cosutume falling off.

It's around 4:30 (PAL) in duration, and it's awesome.

I have NO IDEA how to find it, I found it using DVD Shrink to unlock the files so I could find it, no luck on my normal DVD player!

Are the 5.1 tracks as kick-ass as they are for TPM and AOTC? Or is it just basically matrixed 5.1 (essentially DPL, really) like a lot of older movies get...?

The actor is the same, but they have enhanced it by re-coloring Shaw's (the actor who played Old Ani) eyes to match Hayden's and removing the catterpillar eyebrows.

This is my first post here but I've been lurking for quite a while...

I received the DVDs today. I'm in the UK and managed to get on an early shipment of the Region 1 boxset.

The blooper/credits reel is Title 38 on the bonus disc. I've not worked out how to actually access it through the menus yet, but went directly to it using PowerDVD. Presumably it is accessible using the 1 1 3 8 code mentioned above but I haven't worked out which menu it needs to be entered from yet...been too busy watching ANH... New Jabba - good but TPM looked better, maybe because of the very bright conditions. There's also a very obvious matte box around one of the TIEs during the attack on the Falcon, although I was viewing using a projector and blacks aren't perfect on it but it was very distracting.

Anyone concerned about Irvin Kershener's apparent inclusion on the commentaries for all three films (as seen in the leaked Dutch(?) covers) will be pleased to know that he is only listed on the commentary for TESB now.

And Vader's pink saber in certain shots in ROTJ is, I'm afraid to say, still pink. The clashing sabers shot in front of the Emporer is very poor, in my opinion.

Yep, that shot has definately been redone.

I just checked it against my SE copy. Not only is it a new model of 3PO, its a new landspeeder and a new coloration of the whole scene.

I always thought the redone Tatooine shots were the worst in the Special Editon. Maybe it's a combo of the clarity and redone special effects but that doesn't look too bad.

What's with the blue engines though?

Blue engines? Who knows. The artist's favorite color? Thank goodness Lucas fixed that scene. Those two seconds of film were REALLY bothering me. Wink

Just a heads up, the OS just posted a story on the DVD producer Van Ling. On the last page of the story is a picture of Luke on the Millenium Falcon and he clearly has a blue lightsaber, not a white saber. I believe this may debunk the WIP denials. We'll se on the 21st! ;)

The menus were produced seperately by Van Ling and co.

The sabre footage in the film is unchanged.

"The menus were produced seperately by Van Ling and co."

That's a ridiculous claim. The menu's a completed using footage from the film. This photo is on the Official Site for christ's sake! Also, thedigitalbits.com has posted their review of the actual dvd and the changes, and they specificaly state that all of the lightsabers have been changed throughout the film.

"Anybody got a link to that Van Ling thing?"

And yet they make no mention of the inconsistency of the saber colours that we've already seen in various screen caps in these forums. The DVD producers could have easily touched up the shots for the menus. Hell, they added enough other stuff to the scene!

I particularly like this Van Ling quote though:

"Some character names have been different in some languages since the films were first released," says Ling. "In Italy, for example, Leia has always been Princess Lela. The question is 'This is what these people know. This is what they grew up with. Do you keep that or do you change that?'."

Good question! I think Lucas has already answerd it though Wink

"Not sure what that has to do with Van Ling producing the menus. Van Ling did do the menus."

I'm not disputing that Van Ling did the menus, just that the image of Luke with a BLUE saber on the Falcon is from the restored film since it was used to create the dvd menu, and therefore the white saber is fixed in the final version of the movie.

On a side note, I seem to be having trouble quoting people's responses to my messages (ie: the gray boxes around responses). Can someone tell me what I might be doing wrong?

How about that scene in Dagobah when Luke fights Vader where you can CLEARLY see Yoda wanking off by a tree; surely that's been removed for the dvd?

I can't get over how impressive the saber duel between " The Kenobi " and Vader is now. Not only were the saber effects corrected, the sound has been altered and the sabers now sound more consistent with the other 5 films. I also love how if you notice very closely, they sped the framerate up during the duel to eliminate the unsightly pauses that were so indicative of the original. Now it TRULY appears as it always should have, the two greatest warriors in the universe going at it!

Is it removed in the DVD?
The head bob is still there, but I always took that sound effect to be his impact on the floor below. It doesn't sound like a spring recoil to me, and the timing doesn't match. The headbob is funny, though.

The trampoline thing is an urban legend.

Think logically for a second.

Most sets are wood. Steam machines make noise. Fans blow stuff around. Sabers clashing are sticks hitting each other. Voices are drowned out by all this stuff.

99% of all sound in sci fi films, including dialogue, is recorded during post production.

Why would they add trampoline noise?

The noise, at least. I mean you can see Mark's head bob back into frame, so you know he bounced, there's just no "trampoline sound", right?

Right. I'm not saying he didn't bounce, but there's no way they added a trampoline sound to specifically point out that error.

THIS IS THE FINAL WORD ON THE SABERS ON THE MENUS ETC! If you actually read the entire van ling article on starwars.com it does say:

"Lowry Digital, the company responsible for restoring and remastering the trilogy, was redoing the films in incredible detail at an incredible level of quality, but their results would not come quickly enough. The restoration process went on at the same time as DVD production. Ling and his team built their menu scenes from an entirely different film transfer, and from original dailies and work prints of the film. They strove to eventually match the color correction and balance that Lowry would achieve. One could compare the process to building a railroad starting on opposite coasts, knowing that the tracks had to meet in the middle of the country."

So there you go! Shame they didnt get van to double check the final lowry transfer.
