Question: how close to final are these renderings?

These are promotional renderings of the final model.

Boys and girls, this is Grievous.

thanks spoilerific & merry christmas all! :heavymetal:

re: the pics - am i the only one having a hard time getting in to grievous? i mean the cat just does nothing for me! i'm stoked about the rest of the film based on the spoilers we've been given, but i just fail to see the importance of this character. i realize he's meant to be semi-disposable, like jango fett, but i would have rather seen more time devoted to dooku or other areas of the story... someone care to enlighten me about grievous & why i should care?

and is it just me or does it look like his legs can split into four too?

i dont think so - might be just confusing the split in grievous' knee...

i really like the way his feet are like eagles claws - i hope that grievous gets some use out of those large feet.

Awesome. Thanks so much Spoileriffic! :heavymetal:

I have to admit though, Grievous looks pretty weird without his cape, almost weak looking. :( Hopefully in the movie the textures and details on him are more noticeable.

edit: nvm, further looking the final look has sunk into my brain and i'm starting to like it. weird. ;)

Love the pics. I can't wait to see this guy in action. Does Grievous have more screen time than Darth Maul did? Or will it end up being about the same?

If this is the final Grievous, I have to say, I'm not too excited and think he looks pretty weak.

The Yoda cg looked great so I was hoping Grievous wouldn't look so, well, bad. Looks very cg and unimpressive. Looks to me like it was made for a video game.

And isn't this place supposed to be above all the spoiler bullshit? I know I've read here where people say "If you have it/know it, share it, this place isn't TFN..." So why are the pictures and info dribbling out like TFN? Just drop all the images and what not and let us decide.

Spoilage: Awesome :) Much obliged.

Grievous design: The legs & feet don't work for me, at all. And I preferred it when stormtroopers were the resident SW skeletonesque bad guys. Otherwise, though, he's pretty cool. A bit spindly, but height, movement & characterization can easily overcome that. The cape definitely improves him.

While I've never been a fan of Grievous from the beginning, these pics give me hope. I do think the cape improves the deal, and hopefully the dialogue and fighting will be allright too.

I'm not terribly worried though. I don't think he's going to have that large of a role (besides a plot device to separate Obi-Wan from Anakin, kinda like Jango in AOTC), and even if he doesn't live up to the hype, I'm not going to let it ruin the movie for me.

I still can't decide if I dig Greivous or not...he seems kinda toonish in character to me..

Too bad story wise Lucas made Fett a kid in AOTC, even though I didn't care for Jango, I'd have preffered Boba Fett as Dookus sidekick in ROTS.

Once the trailer comes out with a snippet of Greivous in action, I could easily change my mind.

Grievous' eyes will be what makes him.

So much of animation is "in the eyes".

(Voice is important too. He's going to be very vocal. Opposite of Maul)

I agree , who is doing the voice of grievious?

I don't think they have anybody set in stone yet to do the voice, but I'm not sure.

One question. Why does GG have a blue saber and a green saber. If he is aligned with the Sith his saber should be red.

Grievous isn't a Sith, simple as that. Once you join that exclusive club of 2 then you get the red lightsaber. Grievous is controlled by the Sith, but he ain't no Sith Lord hence, no red lightsaber.

Jackie... last thing I heard it was going to be either Gary Oldman (I think he or his agent denied this info or the deal felt thru) or John Rhys-Davies (Gimly in LOTR).
I havent heard anything from this in a long time so there should be an update somewhere.

Why not just use the guy from the cartoon?

Anything else is just masturbation.

I dont care who they cast to voice Grievous, as long as it fits the character.

And just what the fuck is wrong with a little masturbation? We all do it.

Personally, if his fighting style is anything like what was shown in Clone Wars, then I think we're in for quite a visual treat.

I'm thinking the fighting style won't be as hectic...
you can do alot in animated form that you can't do in live action so they took advantage. I don't think you'll see alot of jumping acrobatics from Grievous, but will see fast arm lightsaber moves.

Hmmm, still just looks like a He-Man bad guy to me. There seems something sort of sacreligous too about a droid beating Jedi in lightsaber combat. I suppose maybe a Jedi can't sense a droid's movements in advance like they can with living beings...or something...

A single crap droid in TPM had two Jedi at a stand-off..

IN AOTC, a whole mess of droids were going to smoke a whole mess of Jedi, including council members, until they were saved at the last minute..

Vader was a big ol' droid with a human head..

I don't think it's a new idea to Star Wars that a droid can kill a Jedi.

You're just thinking like Annie in TPM. :)

Sure droids can kill Jedi but single droid vs Jedi in lightsaber combat is a whole different thing. In the AotC arena the Jedi were hideously outnumbered by droids and Geonosians with guns and shields (well droidekas had shields). I suppose that just goes to show that hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side

Which single crap droid had two Jedi in a stand-off in TPM? Was is it a Droideka against Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon?

i get the impression that Grievous is more than just a droid...he seems more like a custom-job....organic matter and machine, kinda like Vader, as someone mentioned above, only more mechanical.

He´s a cyborg alright, some weird lizard alien who replaced most of his body parts with metal to look more "perfect". His bodyguards are droids, though. But I imagine they´ve been programmed/trained to specifically fight Jedi (with those electro-staff thingies).

Well, remember in the webdoc about Grievous Lucas said that he wants him to be forshadowing of what Anakin will become. So he is definitely part alien part machine.
