Here's a hint - look at the filesize of the "mov" you downloaded. It's small, like 4k, right? Try having a look at it with Notepad ...

The whole thing is easy as hell to save this time around. Just be glad they don't do it like in the old days of starwars.com anti-piracy with an encrypted mov header in one file and the meat in the other. You can't view the movie without the header. That one took me a while to work around. I ended up pasting the downloaded movie portion into an mov file with an unencrypted header like the sample.mov (you need QTPro to do this).

Or there was the one where they put the movie in your Temp folder. You couldn't do anything with it because Quicktime had it locked but then it would delete the mov from the Temp folder as soon as Quicktime closed. To work around it you "simulate" a power fail (hit the reset button on your computer) after it was downloaded, without closing QT. It never has a chance to delete the mov. After rebooting, it's still sitting in the Temp folder, but without anything accessing it.

Ahhh...good times. Now it's all just too easy.

Maybe us "haves" used to be "have nots". Maybe us "haves" used our eyeballs and figured some of this out for ourselves via many hours of research on how this stuff works. I don't mind sharing knowledge, but I can't stand it if people are lazy and don't want to do their own legwork.

I tried a .mov with winAVI a while back and the audio track didn't export. Didn't know why but I do now. So your right, it has to be recorded separately and put back in using TMPGenc.

Easy - drop it into iMovie, then export to iDVD. Oh, sorry, that's for mac only.

Well, the Windows way would be:
- Split the audio into wav using QTPro
- Convert the audio to ac3 or PCM
- Encode the video to NTSC DVD-Spec MPEG-2 elemntary streams in TMPGENC
- Drop the m2v and the ac3 (or wav) into your favorite DVD Authroing program
- Burn as a UDF disc

The audio is going to sound like ass on your home theater no matter what you do to it.

This is the site I use when I have questions about converting video files and burning DVDs. There are articles there on how to do just about anything.

In QT, go to File-->Export and select wav

If you don't have QT Pro, get a serial. Either pay the $29 or look for one elsewhere (keygens are common on the 'net, if you're so disposed)

I would use Toast not iMovie. iMovie only reads DV, not mov. Get Toast 6, select Video in the tabs, select DVD in the side bar, then hit burn. Toast does the rest.

I was debating about creating a DVD with this trailer; but, decided to wait until I had a few more of them to put on the disc.

Instead I'm using the DVI out from my PC to the DVI in on my DLP projector and running audio into the receiver. It looks pretty sweet at 1280x720 at 110".

Of course, Half-Life 2 will look cool tonight when I get home also.

How did you find the link that could be saved? (the one that has the "R" in it). I did a view source and used that link which usually works, but got the same "unrecognizable" mini file as already mentioned. What did you do to find the proper link?

I've been trying to use QTPro to make screen caps from the mov file.

However when I use File, Export, I get an error message saying "Couldn't export the movie "Episode III Teaser Trailer" because this movie does not allow saving".

So I tried the trick mcdermd alluded to a few posts ago.
Open the sample.mov which comes with QTPro and then drag the bmobyrrehc_hs_r_dl.mov file into the QT window. Now you can freeze-frame a scene from the trailer, and use File, Export to export screen caps out as bitmaps, jpegs, etc. I've found bitmaps best, which can then be upsized and sharpened in Photoshop.
