The concept works if you over-analyze it. Shroud of the dark side, the dark side engulfing Anakin, power of the dark side, etc.

But the execution is bad. The angling is poor enough that a better alternative would have had Anakin facing away with the cape draped straight down and the mask visible in it. The best alternative would have been for Anakin to be throwing off the cape and the Vader form visible, but that takes away from the concept, as it shows him getting rid of evil.

Moreover, everybody knows who Vader is. This poster is first and foremost a collectible. To distort the mask that much, to make it into some sort of comical Dark Helmet knock-off, just cheapens the darkness of this chapter. The packaging for the action figures is equally tacky and flashy, so this isn't just a single incident - there seem to be a whole lot of Lucas-licensed artists trying to go all-out for this last project, but instead are just going overboard.

Like I said before, I appreciate the creative value in this poster, but its not what I was looking for in an EP 3 teaser poster.

I like it. :)

It's not as good as the teaser poster for TPM (none ever will be), but it is better than the one for AOTC...which I just loathed.

I can accept it. It doesn't make me want to run away from it, or barf. But, the fact that 'accept' is the strongest positive term I can conjure at the moment has me somewhat disappointed. I'll buy it though, and I'll have it on my wall, but somehow I can't see it staying there as long as the TPM teaser poster has (ie still there).

Although I like it (just a bit) this teaser poster is average. :? I was expecting more from the guys Lucasfilm. I even like better the "fake" one posted at TFN where the Vader shadow was around Hayden in the Death Star background...
If someone has it and can post it I would appreciate. Thanks!

Concept = good
Poster = Crap

If I would have done it vaders head would have been at the bottom, so the cape flows downwards, which is what capes normaly do. You know that thing called gravity? Yea that old thing...

The physics of it are fine - this is Lucas' first Ep3 fart joke. Anakin has just let one rip and the blast has thrown the cape into the air.

Something like this (better done, of course) is that i was expecting to see in th enew teaser. I think that the idea is very good. The problem is the execution, it isn´t natural.

That is the way how the real poster should have been done. Pretty cool.

Don’t get me wrong. To be critical is too easy when others have done the job. May be the problem with the teaser (I guess) is the amount of hours of work it has.

I can imagine the poor design guy, at his work station, eight o’clock in the evening. The marketing chief arrives "Hey, you! I want a new Anakin poster, for tomorrow morning!", "Okay, no problem! What it is for?

"Worldwide teaser release". See the poor man sweating during all the night at work, feeling the pressure...

It seems easy, but it’s hard to do!!

To M. Perror Palpy:

If you have not realized, the real teaser is supposed to be "shaped like the helmet ". But it isn´t. It has the shape like the special EditionJabba, as DKR1138 has said...LOL... (i really don´t know which one he refers) :P
And of course that my version is not natural!! It not has to be! It is done only to show you how I liked the poster!

If I dare to criticize something, I have to show that I could do it better. You doubt I could? Sorry, it is only your opinion. Four persons here opine the opposite. Make a poll? It doesn’t worth.

The question could be ... Are you envy?

But the REAL question is ... I have done that teaser version in 30 minutes... What would I do with more time and resources?

The answer is:

I’m not going to be paid, but the guy who has done the fucked teaser has be!

LOL

While you're working on a 'new and improved teaser', read a book on phonics. It teaches you how to write coherent sentences. :heavymetal:

I printed the poster off on an A4 sheet of paper on my printer's top setting (it's a quality printer)... and I've gotta say it looks much better when I can see the image larger than on a screen and hold it in my hands and NOT on a screen. I gotta say I'm hopeful I'll like the full size poster even better.

No, it's supposed to be a billowing cloak suggesting the Vader visage, *hinting* at it.

If I dare to criticize something, I have to show that I could do it better. You doubt I could?

I don't give enough of a shit about you to care either way.

So because I am one opinion and four say the opposite is suppsed to make me think `hey, these dorks must be right, okay I change my mind, your pic looks cool`...sorry, no fucking way. If you want to see how it should be done LOOK at Fatboys version.

I think the reason the vader image is so mis-shaped/odd looking is to accomodate the much less obvious evil characters lurking in the picure. If that is the case, it is a much more interesting picture than my first impression. I cannot see the other images now, but I suspect when I can look at the full size sheet for a while I may see them.

I still can't bring myself to appreciate it, especially after lining up the TPM and AOTC teasers before it. Those two were subtle but appropriate, this new one is vapid and emotionless. ROTS is about betrayal and loss, and there's only one concept I can think of that reveals the somberness of this chapter while still tying the three teaser posters together.

After thinking about it I've come to the conclusion that they definitely should have had Anakin and Obi-Wan on the teaser poster. The movie will show Anakin become Vader, sure. But probably the most screen time will be spent on the duel and the relationship between Anakin and Obi-wan.

The way the poster is now, it totally disses Obi-Wan and his role in helping to turn Anakin to Vader. Then again Obi-Wan always gets dissed, what else is new.

Ben, I think I'm with you on this one. A sillouhette of Ani vs. OB with lava and shit behind would have been a much better teaser.

That or Anakin and Obi-Wan back to back, like that old video game poster, or Anakin and Obi-Wan facing each other like the Demolition Man poster with Statllone and Snipes giving a mad ass stare at each other,

anything to better visualize the true drama that will take place in the movie and what fans have been waiting many years for.

Instead they opted for an artsy approach. That's good except the previous posters weren't like that, unless you consider Vader's shadow on the Ep1 poster to be artsy- but that was straight forward.

Anyway whatever, I think I'm pissed for Ewan. :chewbacca:

I agree..I can't believe how some of you are taking it so personally if someone doesn't like the poster.

If you had worked on then thing, then I could understand the immature insecurity.

Anyway, I don't like it, Anakin looks good, but the amount of space the cape uses is too extreme and makes the thing look off-balance... the Vader depiction is plain ugly.

Btw when you see at the official site's store that the teaser poster is 'double-sided' and you read people asking "ooh I wonder what's on the other side!" It's just the same damn image printed on the other side. Apparently some people don't know that and they think there's something different on the other side.
