About these pink sabers:

Could someone do a quick motion cap? It could just be the angle of the saber in the frame.

A New Hope Jabba versus Jedi Jabba

Oh it's different, I'm not denying that, just saying as far as the color goes it can be explained at least partially by the daylight, the rest of the explanation of course is that they aren't trying to make Jabba look like the puppet they want him to look better (something they managed in TPM IMO), which we can't really tell if he does or doesn't based on those screen caps alone.

New to mf.com but I wanted to express my appreciation to DF for so generously taking the time to get all this DVD info to us.

Now to add to your chores, DF :) Have you watched the featurette on lightsabres on the bonus disk? Pehaps they discuss the lightsabre fixes for this release there. (It's very odd for LFL to put in new f/x and not have a promo piece on the changes -- think of all the hype for the SE!)

Thanks again!

I for one would have been happier if they had made the colourscheme a little more like Jabba in ROTJ.

I wonder how the color [sic] correction technician feels about their work on the DVD release. It seems that colour is becoming more and more of a problem for fans on here.

Having seen ROTJ DVD I must say that I am 99% happy with it and I am sure that I will be happy with ANH and ESB. For me its more about seeing the films in great quality.

Hey DarthFirst one short question!

Could u plz check if the audio-delay in the Wampa-cave scene from TESB has been fixed? I'm mean the shot where luke runs out of the cave and u can cleary hear that the lightsaber turns off to early. This is one of the things that bugged me the most with the SE

Thx man

So would it be too much to ask for someone to maybe start a sticky thread with step-by-step instructions on how to compile this mother fucker?

the most educated guess on the whole saber colour debate is...

lowry digital restored the print but the print was not the original negs i.e. it had the effects already in place, and they just cleaned up each frame colour corrction timings scratch removal etc, in thinking that once cleaned up ilm will correct/add any other fx shots such as sabers etc, this would explain why they change so drastically fom shot to shot i.e. to boost the colour/detail in the background they mess with the colour levels and contrast which sends the sabers out of whack, but they wouldnt be bothered by that as it is too be fixed later or so one would think!

these are the FINAL versions of the discs, they will be @ the warehouses in a week or 2 so there is no way they could fix anything else unless they do a last minute recall and destroy all the millions of discs that are already ready to ship! i know it wouldnt cost much to them in the long run but it is late at this stage, u never know maybe around xmas they will go back and fix them and do a mail in for the corrected discs and include a ep3 teaser as a sorry and a thank you merry xmas! and if pigs could flyi would be a flying pig fucker! ;)

Im just wondering if anyone has any confirmation on how old the ROTJ rip is, obviously it is for the new release DVD, but is it the final packaged footage we'll receive in September or has it gone into furthur construction after this was leaked... i.e. the rip could be like a beta copy of the final dvd... anyone have any clues?

the rip is of the final version, im getting a dvd of it 2mrw to scour through that, its probably the same version thats online but its from "another" source (proper flesh and blood person not off tinternet), so ill give it alook and see where its origins are! but rest assured the rips that are online are the real final retail discs, the warehouses in the states are expecting the shipments in a week or so, so there will probably be aload more rips once they surface!

I doubt you need this list. Like, are you on your deathbed and having this info will allow you to pass in peace, or what? But anyway...

Go to the main page and click the link that says "Original Trilogy DVD Spy Report: The Song Remains The Same." That will give you a list of rumored changes. As for what's been officially announced, see the other replies to your querie.

Hey fellas

Have had a lot of requests for menu shots. I thought these were out?
Anyway, see below.

To explain the ANH Tatooine one - image 1 starts zooming in on sandcrawler, Image 2 shows Chapter screens. When you select a chapter, R5's gasket blows and shoots up, camera pans up to top of sandcrawler (Image 3).

Plus a couple of shots of unchanged Rebel Briefing for all those who asked and the unchanged XWing screen.

I got bored and decided to put up a pic of the celebration linked as a large view image. The left corner needed to be free hand drawn and added in since in the movie it scrolls at an odd angle.

Edit: Note this is not just a screen cap, but a full panoramic of the city.

DarthFirst,

You have brought the world of Star Wars spoilerism back to life!
Thank you so much for the menu and duel caps. You are giving this Star Wars crackhead a much needed fix! :heavymetal:

A quick note on the pics of Vader:

You think Dave Prowse is somewhere stewing in some severe anger right now if he's seen these? I remember two years ago he was SOOO ready to come back and play Vader. Kinda sad for the ol' boy. Oh well, BRING ON HAYDEN!

The boy looks like he's ready to burn up the world in that one close up.
I hav no worries about ROTS. We are going out with a BANG!
After thirty years, we just deserve it.

Is it possible to tell if Anakin is to use blue or red saber during the duel? Look at the lightsaber he's holding, doesn't really look like the one Ben gives Luke.

This is just a FYI...

Obviously, I'm taking the DF caps and re-hosting and reposting them in the Episode III Spoilers Allowed forum for discussion purposes and to keep spoilers out of here and in there. This thread will eventually be split into a new Official Darth First thread or something.

Also, we need as many mirrors as possible for all pictures, audio, and video.

-I've read an spoiler that was said in ESB explosions on Star Destroyer from Ion's canon shootings were now green and not yellow and red... Is it really? Can we have a picture of that? Are the shootings now blue like en videogames or still red/yellow?

-Can we have a picture with Palpatine and his attack on Luke in ROTJ?

-Can we have a picture of master Kenobi with his lightsaber in Death Star? Or a picture of Luke with his lightsaber in Kenobi's home? Thank you very much for your answers ;) .

It should be (in theory) Be the one ben give luke. So it should be a blue one, If it is a almost all silver saber (the graflex). It should be blue.

Back to the OT, can any one else get us a video of the ESB Emperor and Vader talk.

First post here

Hey guys regarding the saber fx...

The ONLY official star wars dvd footage that we have seen is the dvd trailer on amazon.com and the official star wars website. On that trailer the lightsaber effects are FIXED! They are crisp, they are vibrant, and they have the white core with the correct coloring. They are just like the AOTC sabers. There is no hint of pink, lemon lime, or colors clashing with each other. Infact, the trailer has the same shot of Vader and Luke's sabers clashing in front of the emperor and it looks brilliant!

Now, compare that to an unofficial pirated rip of the same footage and let me ask you something. Why on EARTH would LFL go to all the trouble of fixing the lightsabers JUST for the dvd trailer only to make them crappy again for the official release? Does that make any sense to you?

Folks, I don't know the rest of you but at this point in time I am only going to trust what LFL has officially shown and what they have shown me is wonderful, vibrant lightsabers! I don't give a crap what some of you "insiders" THINK you have, unless you have some kind official press kit from LFL themselves (and you SHOW me the packaging!!) I am fully convinced that when september 21st rolls around all will be right with the world.

Yes I have seen the french trailer. Still, the point is at one point or another LFL DID go and fix the sabers. They even deemed it necessary to show that fix in the AMERICAN dvd trailer. So again I ask, why would LFL go to the time and trouble of fixing the sabers correctly, show that in the dvd trailer, and the NOT use it in the final release?? It's completely illogical and makes no sense

BTW, if anybody deserves shoddy saber fx, it's the french! ;)

Couldn't you hypothetically wait a few more weeks?

To actually answer your question - it depends on whether or not the rip was done by taking the menus and other extraneous stuff out. I have a dual-layer burner so I could conceivably burn a copy of a dual-layer DVD with almost no loss (minor recompression might be needed to compensate for the size difference between a commercial and home dual-layer DVD). But for single-layer DVDs, usually rips are done by taking all the crap OUT so it can fit on a single-layer DVD.

Ive read this post in its entirety and i saw nothing about the cantina scene. does anybody have any screencaps or know anything about the changes made in dvd (before the greedo nonsense)? it would be great to see some that footage cleaned up enough to see all those great backround characters. hopefully they changed that scene where obi-wan cuts that aliens arm off. That has been one of the major sw goofs that bothered me. maybe they thru back in those wolfmen guys :o

Vader vs. Ben fight looks like crap? WRONG

It was 1976 when they made the first lightsaber battle. I think they should keep everything the way it looked back then.

Star Wars ANH was a break through for motion pictures and technology and I will only watch the original versions. No CGI or any other BS that was added in the SE and these new releases. The OT was incredible as far as efects go and looks a lot better than most movies today.

It's sad that Lucas fails to see this point. Originals all the way for me.

I would love to get my hands on a 35mm print and transfer it to a nice 1080p or 1080i version for myself.

Of course, King Kong looked fantastic when it was released as well. Doesn't change the fact that 80% of the FX shots are laughable by today's standards.

I have a 1977 35mm print that doesn't say "Episode IV" on it. The problem is that transferring it is HIDEOUSLY expensive.

StupidSexy, FYI I know all about HD versions of movies being released there is a reason I own a 2 terabyte hard drive array to go with my 119" screen and IF 7200 you know what I mean. :)

I am just saying I want the ORIGINALS in HD format and feel this is not going to ever happen.

It's a DVD, and it wasn't "ripped" by a "group".
