No details beyond it's in development and Feige has approached an actor to star.

As if the guy didn’t have enough on his plate already but if he can work some magic with a SW flick, more power to him.

Begs the question of what's becoming of the Rian Johnson/Game of Thrones guys movies. Is there overlap?

Disney Star Wars seems really keen on announcing who helms projects, then doing...nothing with those projects. I mean, we have names of film-runners, and we have a release schedule (2022, 2024, 2026), but it's like those facts exist in their own thought bubbles. As has been the case in the 2014-present era, there seems to be little deliberate planning on Disney's part when it comes to this franchise. Hard to imagine Rian, Feige and the GoT boys all collaborating on the same series of films.

Bob Iger says Disney over-saturated the market with films, with 5 coming out from 2015-18. Which reinforces a point I made on this board in 2012 that Disney was churning out these movies in an attempt to repay its investors and shareholders as soon as possible. Creativity was secondary to profits when it came to making more Star Wars post-Disney purchase.

Was Kevin Feige successful with the MCU? No question. Will that apply to Star Wars? It's impossible to know. So now we have two mega-producers teaming up on...something?

I doubt they are doing nothing with the projects. They just aren't broadcasting every single square inch of the development process. There are probably a million things going on the background that we know nothing about.

Like when the Netflix Dark Crystal series was announced. Netflix didn't blab about it for 2 years, then some journalists decided to claim the series was dead in the water. Then it came out, and it's great. They had been working on it under wraps for a long time.

I actually admire Iger for coming out and admitting mistakes. Hopefully Disney will learn from those mistakes and not repeat them.

Rumor that's going around is that the Kevin Feige vehicle is the Lucas sequel trilogy.

There is nothing that is slated, confirmed, or rumoured to occur that I would want more than the makers trilogy to go into development. With Feige calling the shots its just an added bonus.

I would imagine that it would be based on some of Lucas's unused concepts, not a complete re-do of 7, 8 and 9.

So we can get "The Midichlorians Strike Back" in 2025, and be reminded of how much people fucking hated the very mention of midichlorians in 1999. :monocle:

If it ends up being re-do of 7,8, and 9, I would be okay with it. Because the sequel trilogy as it stands now is a hot mess with a lack of direction and cohesion.. Something the Lucas movies actually had.

But if it's a new story based on the Lucas outlines, I'd be cool with it as long we get to explore more of the Whills and Jedi/Sith mythology. Basically what Lucas wanted to show us but couldn't.

I don't think it's going to be a re-do or a reboot. They could adapt his treatments, change locations and characters to suit the (new) story i.e legacy characters - gone !!

Dive into the living/cosmic force, the Whills, the Ashla and the Bendu. Go deep.

Or they can make it another sequel trilogy but this time cast Rey etc with older actors. Have Rey be the one that explores the living/cosmic forces, the Whills, etc. I suggest they do that now while Hamill is still alive so he can act as Force Ghost Luke and consult her on how to deal with the unexplored parts of the Force. C-3P0 don't have to come back - Just have R2 come back since he's the only one that survives TROS.

If true, I see it as a gesture of goodwill toward Lucas and his fans post-return on investment. Maybe something about the Whills, microbial worlds, etc. but far from a redo of the new canon. That would be insane and stomping on way too many toes.
