New Star Wars animated series coming this fall:

I'm not really excited about the "anime" style, but whatever.
Maybe this series will give us some idea of who the hell Snoke is/was.

Created by Dave Filoni, but not executive produced by Dave Filoni...hmmmm

Hey there admin, time for a new TOPIC section on MF? ;-)

This sounds like the plot to Bloodline, though. It was a good novel, but is there enough there for a whole series?

So what IS Filoni doing with his time?
yay bb8

Nifty logo and color scheme. The blue sky reminds me of the striking appearance of Lothal in the epilogue of the last episode of Rebels.

And is it just me or does BB-8 look cell-shaded?

Heya sleepwalker, what's cell shading?
oh... it's this!
Strange, it looks very flat. Especially compared to TCW. And it feels especially juvenile. I guess that is the role of the cartoons since the movies have gone so "adult"?

Of course, has anybody tallied Ezra's final kill count?

Perhaps working on the next animated series after this one?
Maybe Resistance will not be a multi-season show, and we're in store with something more epic that covers another era.

Me likey!

Although it's hard to discern the animation technique, I hope they don't go the painfully cheap-o, Forces of Destiny route and instead give us something cutting edge akin to what Sony is doing with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. That would be aces! :)

This is cool. Reminds me of the Blade Runner Blackout cartoon.

There doesn't appear to be a dedicated Resistance panel at Comic-Con this year. :ohno:

With no movies on the docket until Dec. 2019, this is the next media event on LFL's horizon, and it's lack of promotion of it is baffling.

Rebels premiered in the Fall of 2014. That spring, Rebels t-shirts were in Disney stores, and my wife and I got to meet Taylor Gray as part of the 2014 Star Wars Weekends at Hollywood Studios.

Stepping back from Resistance, I am hopeful we get content announcements out of The Clone Wars 10th anniversary panel.

I really dig this look and the characters! Cant wait for October 7th. Hope you guys are ready here ;).

BTW: dont look at the dislikes or comments. So much salt and hate for a kids show just because adults cant take that they make such a show. Its embarassing as hell! This whole fandom gets more ridicolous with every new installment of the franchise.

The person doing Leia's voice seems to have nailed it perfectly.

Other than that, it almost looks like Speed Racer from the 1960's, which I liked when I was 5, but now... not so much.

It took a while to get going but the more immediate build-up to the race and the race itself at the end of the premiere episode was a lot of fun!

I can see how many may discount the more juvenile sensibility of the show but I didn't mind it. The art direction, animation style and editing more than made up for it and were top-notch; particularly in the flight action sequences. The lightness and levity is a refreshing refrain from the more grim circumstances of The Clone Wars and Rebels. But I have no doubt that as this show progresses, the content will "age" as well.

The art style and voice acting were top notch. It very much felt like genuine Star Wars world. The storytelling was not so eventful and these three episodes had less moral teaching than I hoped for. Kaz is quite immature and thus annoying but I bought into his place in the environment. Orka and Flix were quite enjoyable.

So were Luke, Anakin, Ahsoka and Ezra, if you remember. I'm sure he'll mature as the series progresses.

Thanks for the link.

I just watched the first 3, and the visual style just isn't growing on me yet. As far as characters and plot, I found myself comparing this to parts of TPM. Not just the Pit Droids and the race, but just the overall vibe of the thing. Oscar Isaac's voice work is great, of course, and really the whole cast of voice actors are fine, but I keep wondering if I would like this better if it were done in the animation style of The Clone Wars or Rebels. It's not as bad as the earlier Tartakovsky CW or the dumb Forces of Destiny shit, but I'm not going to spend money on it.

I watched Clone Wars at least three times apiece when they came out. Rebels twice for sure. This series ... once was plenty. Maybe it will improve, but the first three felt a lot like Teletubbies with jet planes to me.

This series, at least thus far, feels MUCH more kid-oriented than Rebels or Clone Wars, by a substantial margin. All through the first episode, my constant thought was, "8-year-old me would like this. Current me, meh." It was loud and tedious.

Because Filoni is involved, I'm definitely willing to stick with this. His track record is beyond reproach, and he's shown that his stories end in a very different place from where they start.

I connected the least with Resistance out of any new Star Wars media project going back decades. But I'll hang with it, see how it goes from here.

I'm probably gonna wait to watch this. Tried to watch the other day with the kids and they said it was boring, but I think they'll come back around to it. Right now they are obsessed with the original transformers cartoons so tough competition. From what I saw i actually liked the animation more than I thought i would. The characters had more realistic movement to them.

I heard the ratings haven't been very good. I'll probably binge it at the end of the season. I've only seen the premiere episode.

For those keeping up with it, how is it progressing?

The progression of the overall story has been slow since the pilot. Also, each episode revolves around Kaz's klutziness, which is too repetitive.

On the positive side - I like the parable structure of the episode's plot points. (There are lessons learned.) Also, I find Neku to be consistently funny.

The next episode is up on the Disney XD site. Spoiler: it involves Kaz making a mechanical mistake.

I agree with all of this. Eight episodes in and I'm already pretty bored with the show. Kaz is Jar Jar Binks (but even more annoying since he's the main character) and every episode is exactly the same with barely any plot progression.

I really like the animation style, but if this wasn't Star Wars I would hardly be engaged.

For those waiting to binge: the show has completed its first season. The second-half was a definite improvement over the first. The finale is filled with all the right Star Wars tropes and scenarios.

I look forward to finding out about Season 2.

I was the same way for awhile. Solider through and you'll be rewarded with traditional Star Wars fun.
