"Misdirection."

That's the name of the game. Good luck with your stupid half baked fan theories, guys. Come 2017, you'll know that I was right.

At least my theory makes the most sense... At least it's way better than the following names that's been thrown around:

  • Qui-Gon Jinn - Like really? This is the most insane theory I've heard.
  • Sheev Palpatine - This is equally stupid. By the time Rey was born, the last we saw of Palpatine was a 100 year old Sith Lord thrown down a huge shaft...Come on now... Even in our reality old men can't hold it up in order to father a 19 year old girl!
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi - Really? Really?? This doesn't make sense since he was offed in Episode IV. If he had fathered a daughter, don't you think he would have done that prior to A New Hope and what's more, Rebels would have made a mention of this in its two season of airtime. Rey would have been in her 40's. Come on now, guys.
  • Plageuis - A Stretch but possible.

If you all guys believe in the above insane fan theories, you all deserve to have a thick brick thrown at your heads. I'm starting to understand why George Lucas has such a disdain for his fandom. I would be terrified too if I saw one of you guys running up to me foaming at the mouth while spouting the above crap.

I'm out. I'm done commenting on this stupidity that revolves around Rey's lineage.

While you're doing that, would you also consider stopping posting altogether?

It's Christmas after all. It would be a great gift for all of us.

CoGro, you might want to check your calendar... Christmas was yesterday. It has passed. That's a fact. Accept it. Denying that it's over just goes to prove that you can't see what's right in front of you.

OK well it looks like I'm going against the rest of the SW worldwide fanbase when I say I don't think she is Luke's daughter.

I agree the neon signs are flashing "Rey is Luke's daughter!!" but I believe Luke is more the Obi-Wan type to not have a wife or any children. I think the film makers are planning a mis-direct in EP8 by revealing she is the offspring of another powerful force user**.

I also don't buy the idea that Luke just abandons his daughter on a dead world and flies off to a tropical island. It's out of character and we know he resented his time on Tatooine why put his own daughter through that? My student just turned on me ! Now where can I dump my only child???

Look it's just my opinion, but if she was to be a Skywalker why not just include a short exchange in the final scene?

Who says #1 Luke was the one who left her and #2 that he knows she exists? I saw a who the fuck are you disturbing my exile oh shit your my daughter look in his face at the end. His state is hard then softens. I'll admit they have quite a tangled web to undue in explaining it away but I feel too much points to it. Ben suddenly realizing who she was is too major.

Here's what I think. Rey is Luke Skywalker's daughter and her mother might be Felicity Jones' character from Rogue One, but whoever she is I think that Lor San Tekka is her father, so therefore Rey's grandfather.

According to Pablo Hidalgo, Rey is 19 in TFA and Kylo Ren is either 29 or 30. https://twitter.com/pablohidalgo/status ... 4399565824 So if Rey was 5 when she was left on Jakku (I can't remember where I read it but I remember reading 5) then Kylo would have been 15 or 16 at the time. I think it's feasable that Kylo could have been 15 or 16 when he turned to the darkside so I think that he not only killed Luke's padawans (except for Rey, who could have been a youngling padawan too) but also Luke's wife. So I think Luke escaped with Rey and before going into exile he took Rey to Jakku and asked Unkar Plutt to look after Rey as well as asking him to ask Lor San Tekka to be her mentor. If we hadn't seen Unkar Plutt's arm then I would have thought that Luke left her with Lor San Tekka, but now I'm thinking that maybe Luke felt too ashamed to face Lor San Tekka and tell him that his daughter had been murdered by a guy who was not only Luke's nephew but also his padawan so Luke felt responsible for her death. Then before Luke left Jakku I think he Jedi mind-wiped Rey so that the last thing she remembered was a ship flying off carrying "her family".

If Lor San Tekka knew he was Rey's grandfather then he obviously didn't tell her but whether he knew or not I do think he mentored her (she might have even lived with him until recently, although maybe he felt it was safer if they lived separately in case Kylo Ren ever turned up) and taught her combat skills. That's how she was able to beat Kylo Ren. (Boosted by the Force awakening in her along with possible latent abilities from a little bit of lightsaber training as a youngling plus Kylo being injured, although I still think his injury from Chewie's shot should have been a bit worse and he should have been really struggling so that Rey's victory looked more believable.)

I also think that Rey, like Luke and Anakin, was a natural pilot and possibly even test-flew vehicles for Unkar Plutt which is how she honed her piloting skills, plus probably worked on them too. I also think it's possible that Luke somehow engineered events so that Unkar Plutt ended up stealing the Millennium Falcon, so that there was always an escape ship if Rey ever needed one and he knew that Han would never give up looking for it so he guessed that Han would pick it up at some point once it was in space. Rey may even have test-flown or worked on the Millennium Falcon for Unkar Plutt, which is how she flew it so well and knew so much about it. (I really hope someone involved confirms that since even with that explanation it still irks me that she knew more about the Millennium Falcon than Han despite him flying it for decades and treating it like family!)

Kylo Ren obviously knows he has a cousin (if my theory is correct) and now suspects it's Rey. That's why he said "What girl?" in that way when he was told that Finn and BB-8 were helped to escape by a girl. It was in a suspcious way rather than just "Damn! OK. Do you know who the girl was by any chance?" Plus they seemed to feel connected whenever they met.

Bonus alternative wild theory: Luke's wife also turned to the dark side, ran off with Kylo Ren and became Captain Phasma! Imagine Captain Phasma meeting Rey, removing her helmet and saying "Rey, I am your mother!" :XD: Also, talking of Captain Phasma, I was little disappointed that Leia never met Phasma in TFA and said "Aren't you a little tall for a stormtrooper?" Lol! Maybe in Episode 8?

While I'm speculating, I also think that Snoke is Darth Plagueis. I think he did in fact save himself from dying but let Palpatine assume that he had killed him so that he could just wait for Palpatine (and therefore the Sith) to rise to power then kill Palpatine and take control of the galaxy after the events in ROTS, but then there were the Rebels to take care of so he thought he'd let Palpatine & Vader take care of them first but they eventually failed and Palpatine was killed anyway so now Darth Plagueis, calling himself Snoke, took over what was left of the Empire and created The First Order.

Some evidence for Snoke being Darth Plagueis is: Snoke looking similar to official artwork and the action figure of Darth Plagueis:
Image
Image

Along with the strongest evidence of all which is that Darth Plagueis' theme from ROTS is virtually identical to Snoke's theme from TFA!

Also there's this fan's 3D model of Darth Plagueis from a year ago that looks quite similar to Snoke. Maybe those involved with designing Snoke saw it and were inspired by it?

I hope that Snoke is Plagueis. It would make his character more interesting. Per the article I referenced in the Novelization thread, the book implies that Snoke dates back to the prequel era (at least).

The novel also states that Kylio thinks he recognizes Rey. (During their battle, he states: "It is you.")

There may be a subtle line hinting that is true. Palpatine recounts "the Tragedy of Darth Plageus the Wise," while Kylo refers to the Supreme Leader as being wise above else.

All avoided if they just made Kylo and Rey brother and sister. Leia's kids with Han.

And the Mary Sue Rey character really annoys me.

She touches the lightsaber and suddenly she is super-Anakin.

Really ridiculous... and disappointing.

Kept me from liking the film overall.

I believe it will become more of an issue with fans as the hype and hoopla fades.

The Kylo character has already been neutered and the Captain Phasma character was essentially a joke.

I didn't either....I saw someone strong with the force getting her butt handed her until she centered herself, and then she was able to barely get the better of someone that's been cut in the arm with a lightsaber and had lost blood to a bowcaster bolt to the abdomen.

But hey, if that's super-anakin to you, more power to you.

Yeah, they set up the power of Chewie's bowcaster for half the movie, then showed two shots dedicated to Ren beating on the wound during the fight with Finn and Rey. He definitely wasn't fighting at full strength. I think the novelization also said something about Ren also having to deal with the emotional turmoil of his confrontation with Han.

I suppose I'll place this here. A great bit of work dissecting all of the voices heard in Rey's vision. More than we all thought we heard.

Yes. And I still won.

However, Ren should still be head and shoulders above both of them.

He has had the training all these years with Luke, then Snoke.

Rey has been running around a desert and God knows what Finn was doing. Playing with himself, maybe?

If we've learned anything about Sith, it's that they are apt to overconfidence in their abilities. Ren may have been instructed by powerful Force and lightsaber wielders but who's to say he took full advantage of it as someone more humbled and receptive would?

Fair enough.

But super Rey fighting against Unkar's thugs, solve every problem mechanic, uber Millennium Falcon pilot, and victor over Kylo Ren still bothers me.

Always will.

There's no way you can compare the two.

Rey was way over-the-top in a way that Luke never was.

I think the speculation about Rogue One's female lead eventually becoming Luke's wife and Rey's mother might be true. Remember how people speculated that Kylo Ren could be Han & Leia's son because Kylo could be the "ky" in Skywalker (Leia's original surname) and the "lo" in Solo? Well the female lead in Rogue One is called Jyn Erso and that's an anagram of Rey Jones. (If you use the "e" twice.) The actress playing Jyn is Felicity Jones. Definitely strong evidence I think. :jedi:

SPOILER - Bloodline - SPOILER

For consideration: Bloodline is set 6 years before TFA when Ben still is with Luke and hasn't become Kylo yet. In the Rey Vision she is left on jakku as a young girl. Estimating her to be 19 in TFA this would have taken place like 15 years before the movie and 9 years before Bloodline. So the raid of the temple and the Fall of the Jedi and Ben we see in TFA has not occurred when Rey is left on Jakku in the hands of Unkar Pluk. Curious...
