And it's rumored that a latter 3D/2D/4K UHD Blu-ray release will be packed to the breasts with more bonus features, à la Peter Jackson blockbusters.

Germany has to wait for April 28th for the home media release. Digital Release will be on April 15th. So u guys are far ahead of us.

There will be DvD, a 2 disc Bluray and a 2 disc Bluray Steelbook release. I've ordered all 3 of them to complete my collection

Not only should we get the three domestic trailers, we should get the two international ones as well.

We should also get some of the better TV ads.

Trailers on a Blu-ray are pretty rare (at least in my collection) whereas they used to be standard issue on DVDs.

Target's content is going to be digital-only and they haven't announced how yet. Will it be downloadable or just on a website for a limited time? I was hoping for content on a disc. The only difference now between all the retailers is the packaging.

In the age of the internet there is no such thing as exclusive material.

I do agree that they don't do special features/content like they used to. I love commentaries and this film begs for one.

Australian release is April 13th.
So far retailer JB HiFi is the only one to offer an exclusive - which looks to be the same as the US Best Buy Steelbook, with Ren/Phasma and the Falcon/TIE's on the inside.

The PT DVDs were stacked. People complained that Episode II and III didn't have an overall extensive making of documentary like "The Beginning" on the Episode I DVD, but it still had more than this.





The international trailers were never released in real Hi-Def. Plus they have subtitles on them. Korean? Japanese? Whatever.

The TV spots were in all different sizes. Some officially released while others were not.

If Lucas wasn't giving us the trailers and TV spots, people would be going insane.

Why anyone would want to hear from Abrams is a complete mystery to me. I would love a Kasdan commentary though. I'd like to see if he still has it since this film had some significant issues. Right now, I blame Abrams for the movie's problems.

Lot of people watch stuff on youtube now, especially the trailers, youtube was just starting up in 2005 when the last prequel was released and it wasn't the household name it is now. It's where trailers thrive now, other than the cinema.

The trailers are completely inconsequential to me, but I'll be disappointed if there's no audio commentary tracks. Those were one of my favorite features of the previous DVD/Blu-ray releases.

With all the space on a Blu-ray disc, they should be able to give us the domestic and international trailers and TV spots.

Jedi Steps and Finale brings a tear to my eye every damn time. I often stream it over wifi to the PS4 in my living room, it sounds truly magical in 7.1 surround.

Yeah. Jedi Steps has become one of my all time Favs of SW, John Williams and Scores in general. Awesome and magical Piece of Music which carries so many Emotion.

Love Jedi steps. I actually kind of wish that theme was woven into the score more. Maybe it will be a recurring melody in Episode VIII. Something about it felt very classic Star Wars to me.

Its way to epic to just have in that 1 Minute shot of Ep VII. I really hope for it's return in Ep VIII and even IX. Depends on who is scoring I guess. Williams will move this Thing Forward for sure...

It remains my favorite theme from the TFA soundtrack. It just has this mythical feel that's perfect for the lead-up to finally finding Luke. Another one of those John Williams pieces that's new, but feels so familiar and perfect for Star Wars at the same time.

Received my (first) copy from Disney Online on Tuesday. Started with the extras disc.
Bit disappointed that the deleted scenes, still had rough CG in them, but that main documentary was excellent.
Saving the movie for the weekend. Cannot wait!

TFA: Bonus Features (the ones I've watched so far)

The Story Awakens - I suppose I was expecting to watch the entire table read, or at least maybe larger interesting chunks of it. Rather, we get a four minute video with Mark Hamill calling Kylo - Kilo and some interviews shot later laced in between for just 4 minutes. So I was disappointed with this feature, but maybe my expectations were too high for this one.

John Williams: The 7th Symphony - again my initial and only complaint for this feature was the length. I believe this one was about 7 minutes. Kathleen Kennedy, Lawrence Kasdan, and J.J. Abrams (and others) are interviewed and speak as the maestro is shown going through his boxes of music, conducting, and the like. The highlight of this feature is when John Williams himself speaks about Rey and Kylo themes as parts of the movies are shown. I would love an audio commentary from just John Williams talking about the themes as the movie plays in the background. I would have loved for John Williams to discuss each piece in the film and maybe how he approached writing them. God, I really hope he lives to do 8 and 9.

Force for Change - run time 03:22 - This feature highlights the good that came from all the donations. Kathleen Kennedy and J.J. Abrams narrate. It's pretty touching to see where and how the money raised helped those in need all in the name and the love of Star Wars.

Building BB-8 - run time 06:03 - This was a great feature as it shows the birth of the idea all the way to the execution and function of BB-8 in the movie. I thought it was cool when BB-8 came out on stage during Celebration before they showed the first trailer and after seeing this feature, it gives you a new appreciation for all the work that was put into his performance. It would have been nice if this featured had touched on his voice and the development of it, but sadly it doesn't.

Blueprint of a Battle: The Snow Fight - run time 07:02 - The first half of the feature discusses the decision and building of the set instead of finding a physical snow forest location. The second half focuses on Adam and Daisy's (and John's) training for the battle. There was a really cool part where Adam and John are fighting and they flip back and forth between shots from the set and shots from the movie.

That looks disappointing. Just a couple of postcards? I honestly think the Best Buy steelbook packaging is the most attractive bundle out of any retailer/online sale. You'd think they'd have at least included a short teaser for Rogue One considering we're so close to December since it's a Disney movie.

Boy, George Lucas had it good when he was one who did the home video releases. Sure, he may have screwed the pooch on the changes but at least he had a marketing department that made you feel like he really cared with each release. He even went so far to complete the CG in most of the deleted scenes in the Prequel Trilogy. This? Meh.

There could be 5 sounds going at one time... Do they generalize with the term "various" ever? I just need to watch and see what they leave out.

I just got done with TFA and I've been pouring through the Bonus features disc but I did take some screenshots of the Rey's Vision scene. Instead of taking up a whole page with pictures, I have made an album just for you to go through.

What Captain Walker posted earlier is what I hear... the "any jedi" line is clear once you know its there. The "you will be tempted" is buried behind Kylo killing somebody.

No. It's like a very good cliffs notes. The subtitles give the overall idea pretty well. I actually think there's to much going on in that audio. It's jumbled together in my opinion. You aren't missing anything important.

I'm surprised no one besides you are interested into discussing this scene considering it was a controversial topic at the time.

But what strikes me as interesting? The fact that in the theatres with the subtitles, Obi-Wan says, "Rey..." Here, it's "Rey?".

I have a vested interest in audio and this scene is thick and mysterious... Which is in my wheel house.
I don't notice a question mark inflection during that Rey. It's mostly reused dialogue from other movies.

She does gasp, but there's a lot of background sounds also. I feel like the captions are like explaining the colors of a tied dyed shirt to someone who is blind, yet the Braille just says "blue, red and yellow"... Make sense?

Actually, Abrams and Ewan McGregor have gone on record stating that the "Rey...These are your first steps." is a new line that Ewan recorded for the film.

"..afraid" and "The Force will be..." is older recycled Guiness dialogue from ANH and ESB.



Yeah, I agree. Ok, which version of Star Wars do you think provides the best captioning, 20th Century Fox/Pre-Disney LFL (Ep 1-6) or Post Disney LFL (TFA)?

I personally prefer the captioning in Ep 1-6 because they seemed to understand a lot more and was able to transcribe all if not, most of the Sound FX effects in all six movies. The font was better; stands out more. The font that Disney used? Hard to see sometimes to the point it blends into with the background imagery. Example: The Bespin corridor. You can see that Yoda's lines started to blend in with the lights on the floor.

Side note: When I watched ROTJ and when I got to the part where Vader was about to toss the Emperor into the shaft, the subtitle doesn't show him as "Noooo!" The subtitles just simply says, "No." then pause then "No!"

Yep. I read that. I'm glad Ewan was involved. They took Alec saying "afraid" and turned it into it "Rey"... That could be seen as a question. I was thinking of a different part.
