Questions and Speculation Ep 7+

So we've seen Episode 7 now, (HOLY SHIT by the way, I never thought I'd ever say that!) and the movie lends itself to a ton of speculation about what is next. Let's start the discussion.

1. Who is Rey's family that left her alone as a little girl?
2. Is Luke really her father? Is that a grave site he's standing next to at the end?
3. Who is the mother? (midichlorians? HA!) If she's dead, did Kylo kill her??!!
4. The new Deathstar 3.0 is destroyed, will there be a 4.0? If not, then what WILL it be?
5. If Snoke ISN'T Plauegis, then how is he connected, if at all, to the past?
6. Will the Knights of Ren show up in Ep 8 as a big threat? Who are they?
7. If Luke really IS the father of Rey, that means we're getting another "I am your father" moment in the future. Is that necessary or a good thing?
8. Is Kylo being set up for a redemption, a la Vader, killing Snoke at the end of Ep 9? Or are his crimes too severe?

1. Who is Rey's family that left her alone as a little girl?

In the flashback scene you see an alien hand guiding her on Jakku. It's def not human. She would have had to been raised by someone. Jakku is no place for a young girl like that. She'd get killed. Someone would have had to train her to fly ships and fight, etc. I wish there was some 'mentor' figure with her. Why was she in such a hurry to get back to Jakku? Imagine they came back for her while she was on the Falcon. Maybe she was a virgin birth like Anakin and the mom didn't know what to do so dropped her on Jakku.


2. Is Luke really her father? Is that a grave site he's standing next to at the end?

During the fight when Kylo mentions 'the force' Rey closes her eyes and Luke's theme begins to play. Then she goes on the offensive - from being backed against the cliff to winning the duel. I wonder if there's some reincarnation thing going on here. Anyway, the audio cue might make one lean towards her being Luke's daughter. Maybe Luke used the force to conceive her. As for the grave... no idea. Was this supposed to be where the 'first jedi temple' was?


3. Who is the mother? (midichlorians? HA!) If she's dead, did Kylo kill her??!!

Rey only mentions her family. Never mother or father. I mean, Luke didn't care much for his mom until he asked Leia in ROTJ. I feel like Leia would have known. I don't think Luke found love.


4. The new Deathstar 3.0 is destroyed, will there be a 4.0? If not, then what WILL it be?

Please, no more. To the PT's credit they never introduced any weapons or ended a movie with a big space battle. TPM doesn't really count. I was just annoyed that once again we got a "Starkiller base will fire in 60 seconds" kinda thing. So unneeded. Also a bit too ridiculous that this weapon could exist. If there's a 4th one it'll be half completed (yet still operational) and look like a cookie that's still warm but broken in half.


5. If Snoke ISN'T Plauegis, then how is he connected, if at all, to the past?

Snoke is the ancient fear. The Emperor's long lost brother? Snoke shouldn't be his real name. It's too silly. Snoke sounds like the name of someone from the Max Rebo band.

6. Will the Knights of Ren show up in Ep 8 as a big threat? Who are they?

I don't like how Knights of Ren don't all use lightsabers. Melee weapons are weird. Hard to take them seriously. I think they'll def show up in episode 8 though.


7. If Luke really IS the father of Rey, that means we're getting another "I am your father" moment in the future. Is that necessary or a good thing?

No thanks. If there is, it'll be more subdued. And Rey will probably just 'know'.


8. Is Kylo being set up for a redemption, a la Vader, killing Snoke at the end of Ep 9? Or are his crimes too severe?

Seems quite obvious. I really hope not. I hope he is more of a badass in episode 8 without the 'light side leaking' thing. Snoke will have trained him more and he'll be more badass.


9. Force ghost Obi Wan and Yoda in Ep 8? Luke and two Jedi Master ghosts training Rey ! maybe she can ride on Luke's back as he flips around the hillside! It's like poetry.

I got a few questions myself.

1) Why a trilogy? I feel like unlike the prequels (which would have been better if they were 2 films instead of 3) this current trilogy doesn't have to be confined to 3 movies. Would you rather see 4 or 5 in order to tell the most compelling story possible?

2) Should there be a significant time gap between epvii and epviii? Let Rey and Ren train more and become more skilled in their ways of the force.

3) Starkiller base didn't have any AT-ATs or ATSTs. Were they phased out?

4) Will Luke and Leia last until the end of this trilogy or will they be killed off? If so, when?

5) Since when are TIEs two-person ships that requires one person to man the guns? None of the other TIEs are like that

6) How does Kylo know that the lightsaber Finn takes out is Vader's? He says "that belongs to me" or something like that. Going by the 'shooting schedule' I was surprised that the lightsaber didn't play a greater importance in the plot. The map could have been placed inside of it or attached to it. "A Sword tumbles through space, crashes toward ground". Would have def made Ren's comment about the saber more sensible.

The Felicity girl from rogue one movie. Slight force sensitivity, meets luke after he destroys the death star, yet nothing concrete until after RotJ. She is the only survivor from the death star plans mission. This will allow her to be in flashbacks. Kylo killed her at the temple. Luke was about to lose his shit yet totally dropped it out of fear of the darkside and going ape on the universe. He sent her to Jakku because of his upbringing and banished himself to control his anger.

4. The new Deathstar 3.0 is destroyed, will there be a 4.0? If not, then what WILL it be?

Who knows... Lets create a device that destroys the universe!!!

8. Is Kylo being set up for a redemption, a la Vader, killing Snoke at the end of Ep 9? Or are his crimes too severe?

I think Kylo will be redeemed at Lukes death against Snoke and Kylo... some sort of sacrifice to save Kylo so that he sees that snoke is "just using him"... EP9 will have kylo and Rey going ape on snoke

These Ties seem to be a bit more substantial than the old ties... new design.

KK and Lucasfilm would have mapped out this story and 3 movies it is. A trilogy - beginning, middle, and an end. However, going by recent comments Episode X-XII are a lock.

I think the time gap will play out in close to real-time so about 2 years

There was no ground assault on Starkiller base so no need for AT-AT or AT-ST walkers. Massive facility they could of been anywhere. Or more likely stowed aboard star destroyers.

It's likely Leia could make it out alive, but I think for the story and closure Luke may not. Can't see either of them showing up in Episode X.

Ships change/evolve with time. Is it that far out of the realms of possibility a TIE could hold 2 people??

I'm fairly certain Kylo is aware who's sabre that is. It would have been more jarring if he was clueless about it.

I do hope VII starts off with a flashback though of Rey and Luke. Or a flashback of their first convo or something. It feels cheap if we just cut to training.

We're definitely led to believe that Luke is her father but I'm not convinced that is the case.. nor can I imagine Luke abandoning her like that in the hands of that Unkar character. Perhaps Lor San Tekka watched over her from a distance as Ben Kenobi did Luke but I still have a hard time believing Luke was the one that left her there. This question will most likely remain unanswered until we get closer to Episode VIII's release. Or perhaps Rogue One will lend us a few more clues. It is still quite possible that she is the offspring of Han and Leia imo, as unlikely as that was presented in the film. And although I don't subscribe to the theory that she is somehow a descendant of Ben Kenobi, the accent makes that an interesting argument. Chancellor/Emperor Palpatine also had an English accent... *cringes at the thought*

We don't know a whole lot about Poe either but he spent some of his childhood on Yavin with his parents who had fought for the Rebellion (apparently explained in the Journey to TFA handbook recently released). Could there be some kind of connection there? I feel he has a larger role to play moving into the final chapters. And we never once saw Poe and Rey together on screen... nor (gasp) Snoke! lol

I really don't think Luke is her father tbh.. I know it seems obvious but I think the true explanation we receive will make just as much sense if he isn't. I do however believe that is indeed a gravestone he is standing next to in the final scene. But who's grave could it be? If you believe Luke is her father, I suppose it's possible it could be his wife or her mother. But again, I'm not convinced of that. If he has found the first Jedi Temple there, perhaps it's a marker for an ancient Jedi? Whoever it is you would think it would be someone of importance. Or it could turn out to be just a rock lol

If it's not Leia, I have no idea.. I don't think we're meant to know just yet. I just have a hard time seeing Luke or Kenobi shacking up in their deliberations with the Force (Ben on Tatooine and Luke after the events of ROTJ.. both had far more pressing responsibilities)

Dear God I should hope not. Unless all these wild KOTOR theories come true and they discover the Star Forge lol. Is Luke on Rakata Prime? Perhaps in name and the planet does have some similarities but I really have a hard time believing they would tie in an old (albeit incredible) video game, as awesome as that sounds :p The Temple of the Ancients? Intriguing but nahhh

5. If Snoke ISN'T Plauegis, then how is he connected, if at all, to the past?

Snoke is definitely an enigma. If Maz has existed as long as Yoda (over a thousand years), I get the sense this guy has too. Leia mentioned him, so he's known to them. And I'm sure Luke is somehow aware, especially if he is indeed a Sith Lord.. but is he? I think Rey and her blurry past is the key to all of this somehow.

6. Will the Knights of Ren show up in Ep 8 as a big threat? Who are they?

Adam Driver referred to them in an interview as "the Beatles of the Dark Side".. lol. And Kylo Ren is referred to as their Master by Snoke. But do they still exist? If they do, they will most certainly play a part in the events to come but I'm under the impression Kylo and/or Luke killed them all during that confrontation at Luke's Jedi Academy. Cloudy the future is

No. I'd rather hear her say "Luke I am your farmer" lol. It would hold more weight to me if Han were her father, even if she (and Leia) had to discover that after the fact. Or perhaps Palpatine.. that theory is becoming more intriguing (and horrifying) to me... and would further explain the look on Luke's face at the end there :S

I think that's in the realm of possibility, yes. As unforgivable as killing our beloved Han Solo and his father was, he is still trying to convince himself he's a badass of the Force like Vader was. Rey brilliantly brought that to light. That inner struggle with the light will continue.

*furthering crazy Palpatine theory - Could it be that Rey is in fact the descendant of the dark Lord Sideous himself? It would be imperative that Luke turn Kylo back to the light, defeat Snoke and confront Rey together should she take up her father's mantle in some insane crazy twist of fate.. yikes*

Ok back to reality lol. Yes, I do believe Force Ghosts will play a part in the chapters to come. We saw a glimpse of that when Rey touched Anakin/Luke's lightsaber, albeit as quick as force lightning. I do think they will play a more prominent role moving forward.

WHEW! A lot to ponder and digest.. I freakin' LOVED this movie and can't wait for the next!

I just don't see how Snoke could be some powerful force-using figure that has just popped his head up since the Battle of Endor. I think he's been around for a very long time but only risen again once Vader and Sidious were destroyed. That's why I'm leaning towards Snoke = Plagueis rather than him being some random baddie just conjured up out of nowhere.

Yep, the scene with Rey's vision makes this clear that all of the Force ghosts from ROTJ is coming back.

Don't forget that Luke's theme did play when She did that mind trick on Daniel Craig? That lightsaber wouldn't call out to ANY force user, you know. Not to mention Leia gave Rey the kind of hug that an aunt would give their nieces/nephews. How's that for blatant? Not my fault if you missed key moments in the movie. It's already been established that those signs are there, of course. It just hasn't been said nor confirmed in the film itself or by JJ or anyone else. Yes, the lightsaber calling to her is a huge sign of her lineage.

Yet that lightsaber was initially Anakin's and he also had a strong connection to the Dark Side and to Sideous. She could just as easily been channeling Vader/Sideous as she was Luke in those visions. Just my opinion :p

And you realize that the only reason we didn't see any visions of Anakin from Episodes 1-3 is because Abrams didn't want to piss off the prequel haters right? He was trying to reunite both halves of the fandom. That's why you only saw what, about 1-3 references to the prequels. If people didn't hate on the PT so much, Abrams would have included visions of Episode 1-3 in that sequences but no, we got just visions of Empire and Ewan's voice that's it.

The bottom line - the film blatantly hints that Rey is Luke's daughter. Her being Han's/Kenobi's daughter wouldn't work no matter how stupid the fan theories surrounding Rey really is.

I agree that there's no way that she is Han or ObiWan's daughter. Yes, the film strongly hints at her being a Skywalker but that doesn't HAVE to be the case. I still feel her being the offspring of Palpatine/Sideous is a strong possibility.. or Snoke/Plageius (sp?) if that's truly who he is.

The vision sequence moved very quickly but Yoda's voice was in there as well. Some even think the cries of Padme giving birth. You clearly hear Vader's breathing/voice as well. As much as I wasn't a huge fan of the PT, it is still relevant to the continuation of the saga.. no avoiding it

ok, I have the bootleg, the scene starts with her opening the trunk and seeing the light saber inside. she touches it and you immediately hear a sound of a light saber igniting, she screams, you hear Vader breathe, and then you hear a little girl cry, (assuming it to be her as a little child when she's abandoned.) Rey is then in the hallway from Empire where Luke fights Vader, it then warps around her and tosses her to the ground to an outdoor setting. You hear other screams of people in agony as it goes to Luke on his knees touching R2D2. It then starts to rain and she turns and sees someone with a hat get Kylo's light saber run through his chest as he falls to the ground dead. She stands up in the rain and sees Kylo with his Knights of Ren behind him, with a muddy field of dead bodies around them on the ground. Kylo appears to recognize her and comes towards her, she hears screams again and turns and sees what is again is assumed to be her as a little girl, back at Jakku, looking towards the sky. She's screaming "come back" while a ship leaves her behind in the sky. Rey then appears in a snowy forest where Kylo jumps out with his saber towards her. She falls backward and the vision ends.

Lucasfilm didn't transcribe the movie. Either Sony Who developed these captioning glasses or Regal theaters that I went to probably did so it's not exactly official captioning since it wasn't sanctioned by LFL.

Another good point was raised in another thread regarding Maz' "story for another time". How exactly did she get that lightsaber from Bespin? Did the lightsaber fall outside of Cloud City like we were led to believe and land elsewhere? Or did it somehow remain in Bespin? Who could have retreived it.. could it have been Boba Fett or someone else? Lando? Eventually it reaches Maz for safe keeping.

The only reason I suggest it may have been Boba is that there is a Mandalorian flag outside her castle. If Han was aware of Maz, and considering the cantina atmosphere, it's not a stretch to suggest that Lando, Boba and other bounty hunters may have been aware of Maz and her castle. But why would it have been entrusted to her all this time?

I wouldn't read into the flag thing too much. If you remember, the courtyard/entrance room also had a lot of the flags from the Podrace in TPM. These flags doesn't mean a lot of the stuff from the PT is coming back. They're just there so the PT lovers can squeal, "They haven't forgotten about the PT." Nothing more.

Now, the question is, Do you see the lightsaber as this Excalibur type of thing where it only chooses these with the Skywalker lineage?
