I'm a deleted scenes aficionado. I love to find out all about what was cut and why it was cut. I used to have a Prequel related deleted scenes site back in the day so let's get started with what was cut from The Force Awakens.

Maz handing Luke's lightsaber to Leia:
(from trailer 2.)

Image

JJ Abrams on why it was cut:

“That was a scene actually filmed, but we took out," he confirmed. "At one point, Maz used to continue along with the characters back to the Resistance base, but we realized that she really had nothing to do there of value, except to have her sitting around. Lupita did film scenes on set for that sequence, but it felt like going right just to go left, and it was unnecessary. So we ended up leaving those things out.”

Kylo Ren igniting his lightsaber in the snowy forest:
(from trailer 1.)

Ironically, probably the most talked about shot from the first teaser trailer didn't make it in.

Various dialogue from trailers:

Rey: "There are stories about what happened."

Maz: "Who are you?"

Rey: "I'm no one."

Maz: "Just let it in."

Finn: "I've got nothing to fight for."

Post whatever else you may have noticed.

The Kylo igniting the saber still happens, you just hear it offscreen. Happens with the editing process.

JJ is well known for creating shots that are just for the teasers....those may be part of them.

There is, actually, a second quad jumper on the "tarmac"

You'll notice at some point Finn gives Rey his jacket as the approach the Main Oscillator building in the Third Act.

Also Rey & Finn appear to have hitched a ride to a different entrance door than Han & Chewie on a snowspeeder that resembles this toy.

There is a scene floating around, as well, of snow troopers inside the Falcon's hold.

Yes. A photo of snowtroopers walking around the hold is in the Visual Dictionary.

There was also talk at some point of a scene with Kylo sitting in the MF pilot seat and having some sort of flashback.

The novelization of past films gives us great insight into deleted scenes.

Unfortunately, the TFA novelization was a disaster in this regard. Disney would have been better off printing the screenplay and calling it a novel, for how little imagination went into this book, by Alan Dean Foster. The TFA novel doesn't belong in the same universe as the ones from AOTC and ROTS, which spent plenty of time exploring scenes and developing characters outside of what we saw on screen.

Foster's work is another example of trying to take an element of ANH and trying to force it upon this new era and having it fail miserably.

Would have liked to have seen the Vader vs Luke duel on Cloud City from another perspective during Rey's force vision.

I’m sure I read somewhere early on in production that a young actor was cast to play “Young Luke”…in fact at one point IMDB had the actor credited…can anyone else confirm this?
Was this actually filmed? Is so it would make an awesome deleted scene on the DVD/Blu-Ray release.

It was also said near the last day of shooting Mark Hamill shaved his beard, and shot for one more day. Made me think they were going to do a Michael Douglas thing from Ant-Man and make his 20 years younger or so, combined with the fact they hired that guy that seemed to have his ESB Luke build.
