Toto, I've a feeling we're not on Tatooine anymore. I know it's only a publicity photo and those can be misleading. But this feels so un-Star Wars to me.

Still, like the Asian presence. Not too much of that in the film canon. Reminds of what I've been reading lately about Lucas originally wanting to cast Kenobi (tapping Toshiro Mifune, potentially) and Leia as Asian. Even, at one point, wanting to have the dialogue in Japanese with English subtitles.

We agree on something.

Reinforces my belief that the Anthology films are a bad idea. Telling stories nobody cared about in a tone that is very un-Star Wars.

According to comicbook.com

15:16 - The logo shown on screen says "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" - did they abandon the Anthology branding already?

15:17 - Yes, they've been rebranded to "A Star Wars Story"

Regarding Anthology rebranded as "A Star Wars Story" - I prefer "Anthology" better. If only because the Beatles set released from the mid-1990s.

The problem I have with this is that once you change the tone and style, it ceases to be Star Wars. The Clone Wars and Rebels kept the fantastical element. I do realize we have one photo to go off of but this looks dreary.

Jesus Christ, no one has seen a single frame of this movie and the bitching and moaning starts already.

Why not try something different? I love the concept of a grittier Star Wars esp. with this movie and how they steal the DS plans. I think its brilliant and i'm sure it will still feel like a SW movie.

Fingers crossed!

Disagree. The first Anthology film has everything to do with SW. They are stealing the DS plans. And just because its grittier and darker doesn't make it not star wars. Empire was pretty gritty and dark and it was the best one. That leaked footage of the teaser looked awesome too.

I get that it's a different spin on Star Wars.

What I fear is that it will lose the space opera quality (a generalization of everything that makes SW a great story). All signs are pointing to a shaky cam, gritty character piece. The cameraman shot Zero Dark Thirty for chrissake. And Gareth Edwards did a poor job of developing characters in his blockbuster Godzilla.

I love everything I've seen from Force Awakens so far. This one just doesn't appeal.

Photo does cast a bit of generic sci-fi movie quality to it.

Those Hoth Trooper-derivative backpacks are quite the nice tough though.

Definitely generic on first impression, but fortunately the picture's indeed ladled with all sorts of familiar details.

Add Darth Vader into the mix (as has been rumoured) and an abundance of Stormtroopers and other Imperial
imagery and you have what should be a decent enough first shot for a standalone.

This photo has a very Matrix-like feel to it. Which is interesting since in 1999-2000, lots of people were comparing the Matrix quite favorably to the look and tone of TPM.

I'm excited for this film. I don't think it has to match much established style, since we are exploring a very different side of the galaxy than the episodic films have explored to this point. Grease and grit is essential in this era of Star Wars, IMO, and this photo captures that nicely.

Love the reused Pod/Starfighter engine from the Abu Dhabi shoot in the background.

I like the idea that this does look a little different, but at the same time, when I look at this pic, I see certain things that remind me of The Force Unleashed, Han Solo/Rebel Trooper Hoth and even Phantom Menace.

Some of the costumes look to be WWII Air Force inspired, which to me is very ESB in tone. The temple/building they're holed up in, evokes a real Yavin IV/ANH tone. Once we start seeing classic hardware and familiar elements such as classic OT Stormtroopers, Star Destroyers and Darth Vader himself, we'll start gushing like it's 1981 all over again.

Is Forrest Whittaker playing a CG character??

It cant be Biggs...this movie takes place before A New Hope...if we are to go by the deleted scenes featuring Luke and Biggs in A New Hope, Biggs was signed up to the academy and he was going to "jump ship and join the Rebellion"...as stated in their conversation on Tatooine, after the Death Star plans were stolen.

Saying that...as they are deleted scenes...this could make sence...depending on how you look at and take into context, the edits of A New Hope....

I can't imagine that they are. I mean, why would they limit themselves to obeying scenes that have always been on the cutting room floor?

Just watched the scene where Luke & Biggs meet up in the Yavin Base hanger, just to refresh my memory of the dialog & there's no mention of the previous conversation they both had on Tatooine.
I possibly stand corrected...it could be Biggs...which would be pretty awesome if it was... one thought though...if he's a member of a crack commando team in Rogue One, which I'm presuming they might be from the publicity photo, why would he make the drop in status/rank to pilot?

Maybe he's just one of the "Rebel Spies," but is also such a great pilot that he volunteers to go on the Death Star attack.
But then as you said, maybe it ain't him.

Official site now has a specific Rogue One page:

http://www.starwars.com/films/rogue-one

Nothing new, but the order of the films in the menu has changed to include RO as a link.
