SPOILED plot:

Terminator by way of Back to the Future 2 -

Sarah Connor isn’t the innocent she was when Linda Hamilton first sported feathered hair and acid-washed jeans in the role. Nor is she Hamilton’s steely zero body-fat warrior in 1991’s T2. Rather, the mother of humanity’s messiah was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9. Since then, she’s been raised by (brace yourself) Schwarzenegger’s Terminator—an older T-800 she calls “Pops”—who is programmed to guard rather than to kill. As a result, Sarah is a highly trained antisocial recluse who’s great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion.

The story opens with John Connor rescuing his son Kyle our of a concentration camp guarded by Terminators. Connor and his men then send Kyle back in time to save his ‘Grandmother’, Sarah, in 1994. Kyle Reese has been changed to Kyle Connor because the original Kyle Reese is sent to 1984 to save a younger Sarah Connor. That still happens. Also the original T-800 arrives in 1984, just as it was, but encounters an older (Arnold) T-800 and a fight between both ensues.

The old Terminator loses, but the young Arnold is captured by the resistance, reprogrammed (like Uncle Bob) and becomes ‘The Watchman’, which becomes the older Terminator. The resistance then sends Kyle Reese and The Watchman to 1994 to help older Sarah and young John, who are on the run from the government for blowing up Cyberdyne. Worse, a new series of Terminator called the ‘Genisys’ series are hunting Sarah and John.

Skynet has a second complex much like the original Cyberdyne headquarters, to which Sarah Connor, protected by an old T-800 and two Kyles. One knows he’s John’s father (Kyle Reese), one doesn’t (Kyle Connor). Reese dies a gallant death just like in the original movie. During all this, a ‘T-2000′ played by Lee Byung-Hun is also giving chase. As the Connor’s are attempting to destroy Skynet, the aged T-800 is beheaded by the T-2000, which is about to Terminate the Connors. But just in time they destroy all Skynet data, and the T-2000 along with Kyle Connor disappears. Sarah Connor cries because she has lost Kyle again, but remarks… the future is not set.

:jango: :what:

The "time travel as a reboot plot device" barely worked with Star Trek. But it did work.

This just seems absurd and overly complex to even bother caring. Potentially now, there are hundreds if not thousands of time travel tit for tats going on between the human resistance and Cyberdyne, which is just pointless because the only winner is the one who happened to have sent the last mission back...

wherever I got the above plot outline from... well, it was wrong! although, John DOES save a young boy from a Terminator concentration camp in the beginning, so I'm wondering if this was a VERY early draft??

they COMPLETELY spoil the big twist about John Connor in the trailers. Right after sending Kyle back in time, John is caught and turned evil-a-la- Agent Smith from Matrix Reloaded as the new nanomachine Terminator who then goes back in time himself to stop his mom and new dad from doing stuff.... er, what? And when he finds them in the hospital he strikes up a conversation / group hug session with them and walks out to the parking lot with them to their car like they're going to Starbucks until "Pops" interrupts and shoots him!

the plot is all over the place. Action is okay but you never give two damns about what is going on because this new Kyle has the charisma of a stick of butter.

Also, Sarah and Kyle never fuck in 1984. They don't make a baby John Connor. They skip that part and go themselves into a time machine that "Pops" built and shoot straight to 2017 to destroy the Genisys OS. Soooooo T2 never happened. This movie erases that completely. There is NO John Connor other than the evil one. Sarah never goes to a mental institute, Kyle doesn't die, John isn't trained to be a military leader, it's all wiped away.

so how does it really end?
Arnold fights the Connor Terminator and they end up in a time machine together, sending Connor Terminator to who knows when, but Arnold falls out and lands in a pool of T-1000 goo, protecting him from the blast charges they set up earlier as Cyberdyne goes boom. Arnold later joins back up with Kyle and Sarah as a new and improved T-1000 as they drive off into the sunset on a lonely dirt road. Mid-credits stinger is secretly the Skynet mainframe wasn't destroyed and Skynet is now self-aware.

I'm ok with the movie. Like bear stated, it's all over the place, and pacing isn't that great.

It did what it was supposed to, though. Terminator 2-4 are all gone now, which, outside of T2, isn't a bad thing, really.

The action isn't bad, especially when it comes to terminator on terminator action.

I think Jai was a bit better than bear gave him credit for, but I really didn't by Emilia Clark being a bad ass....she may be able to fire guns but she's not as survivalist as Linda Hamilton was.

Thoughts about the new direction and movie raised questions...
I gave much thought about who eventually sends "pops" back in time to protect 9 year old sarah.

In order to know when to send her and what to protect her from....it had to be pretty precise. My $$ is on Pop's becoming self-aware and borrowing from the Sarah Connor Chronicles, where an Anti-Skynet, who loves humans, is created to fight back against skynet. Whether Pops is this anti-skynet, or raised it, i don't know, but I think he's responsible for it.

John is out of the equation now, so we can't go back to that storyline. Anyway, thoughts?

yeah, the thought is this thing is dead in the water until Cameron gets his rights back in 2019. Genisys has only made $44 million domestically since Tues night! That's abysmal!

They should have just told the story of the future war. Set the thing ENTIRELY after judgement day, with swarms of T800 Arnold's fighting against Connor with pew pew purple laser blasts and hunter/killer bots. Finally show a FULL movie of humans against those fucking machines! How John leads survivors of a nuclear holocaust against these bastards:

Image

Kyle and John storming the base only to watch a lone T800 travel back in time. John then sends Kyle back to protect his mother, then BOOM! another T800 Arnold attacks! John narrowly escapes, gets the better of this T800 and reprograms him to be the T2 Arnold to protect his younger self. A T1000 then attacks in the finale, only to do the time warp dance himself back to kill a young John Connor. It ends with Connor sending Arnold back to the beginning of T2 and the series is complete! Done. Period. Forever!

They don't need any more movies. They've already pissed all over what Cameron did.

Nobody cares about Terminator anymore because the story rightfully ended after T2. The box office is proof of that. Nobody wants more. There is no more.

Done. Period.

Funny how Cameron himself, against most reviewers, claims the opposite, speaking of this one being "respectful of the first two films": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2mOf8IWTC4
I haven't seen Genisys yet; is it really THAT bad? A waste of ticket money?

I didn't think so. it had good elements to it.

The Terminator on Terminator action was good. the FX were decent.

John as the T-3000 was pretty freaking awesome.
