Jake recalls how busy his young life became and at one point he was doing around 60 interviews a day. "My entire school life was really a living hell - and I had to do up to 60 interviews a day." Lloyd felt so much anger towards the George Lucas directed film that he destroyed all of his Star Wars memorabilia, and only reprised his role as Anakin for five video games. The youngster decided to take early retirement from acting as he was no longer able to fit in at school. "i've learned to hate it when the cameras are pointed at me," he told a magazine.
Jake, whose mother is an entertainment agent, admitted in an interview Scifitv.com that he doesn't like watching the film anymore and he blames George Lucas for that. "When you have something like that there's a lot of expectations for it to meet the standards of the public and I don't think George did that. "For me to go back and watch it now would be kind of creepy."

Jake Lloyd actually called me once from comic con in Toronto, on my birthday, because a friend of mine saw him there (odd place to be for a guy who alleges to "hate the industry" and Star Wars in particular). He certainly didn't sound like the embittered soul from this article.

Not only that, but the guy does Star Wars Weekends, Conventions and is even appearing at the TPM 3D premiere in Japan later this month. I think the article is a load of shit personally.

Although, I don't have ANY trouble at all believing that being in TPM, given it's and specifically HIS reception made his life a fucking hell when he was a pre-teen. Kids can be utter bastards, and that's just from what I've seen about kids I went to school with and later worked with who were on goddamn Degrassi...kids are shits.

I can imagine there would be some "dificulties" growing up with that behind you. His performance, the role, the dialogue and direction he was given, and the films overall cold reception (Jar Jar) would have snowballed into a mess on anyone. I wouldn't blame him if he did feel a tad angsty about it all.

Hell, the whole thing has grown on me. His moderately annoying performance has become young Anakin to me, and I have just accepted it and moved on.

But I aint him. I would have gone all premature darkside on the kids at school. What a waste of midichlorians, this guy.

Same here. Actually, it grew on me back in 1999. I got sick of jerk off fan geeks ripping it apart, so I ignored it for several years and watched it for the first time in ages when the Blu Ray came out, and thought it was great fun. There are some narrative and editing problems that I think could have been changed or tightened up a bit, but who cares? It's fine as the overture to the space opera.

The fact that the theatrical re-release didn't do too poorly and the Blu Ray set is still selling makes me see this new attempt at throwing more sand in its face as dubious at best.

Coming late to this but I'm glad he has a good attitude about it. My attitude would be a bit different from his though. "I've worked with George Lucas and I was the lead in a Star Wars movie. So fuck you." Kids can be shits, I get that, but I don't see how that isn't an unstoppable comeback.
