Liam Neeson is returning to that Galaxy Far, Far Away. ... as doomed Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn on Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Jan. 28 and again on Feb. 11. ... voicing Qui-Gon, who appears to Obi-Wan Kenobi in visions, in a three-part arc about his former protégé Anakin Skywalker’s destiny as the Chosen One.

Yes, I read that too. That has got to be the best TCW-related news ever.

That worked more as a relief. This one was a double surprise.

I'm glad to see Liam Neeson back into the Star Wars fold. Really unexpected after his criticism of George's direction for TPM, and his declining to reprise the role for that Yoda scene in ROTS.

And the fact that he's voicing a fully animated version of Qui-Gon perhaps increases the chances (although only slightly) of us seeing a flashback of training, or other adventure, with Obi-Wan. Something many of us wished for after hearing Kenobi tell his little story to Anakin in Voyage of Temptation.

Well, I never saw him criticising GL. He did talk about the bluescreen, but I don't recall any complaint. As for the RotS scene, he wanted to be in it, but had to decline due to a motorcycle accident.

You're right. I was confusing a line he said after TPM where he was talking about actors being "puppets" for a director. I think he was talking about films in general, and not specifically about GL or Star Wars.

So exiting, finally getting out scene kinda'. But reading this news today brings home something Dave Filoni said to the guys on TheForceCast, he was talking about how he always regrets not being able to share much more wih the fans, to reveal what is about to come on TCW but he also doesn't want to spoil the surprise and excitement it brigs to the viewer to see a recognized character return.

So this is a perfect example, just imagine knowing nothing of it, then on Friday Bam! you see Qui-Gon and get a heart attack. That being said, it doesn't mean I think this kind of news shouldn't be posted, not at all, because I will always keep reading the spoilers, hey, we love SW and that is just a part of it.

Oh btw, now that I remember on that episode of he Podcast Dave did mention that we would see some classic characters make their appearance on TCW. Also gave the scoop to Jason and Jimmy that Sam Witwer, who plays Starkiller in The Force Unleashed videogame, and Adrienne Wilkinson who plays Maris Blood will be vocing characters in this season of The Clone Wars, although not the character from the game. According to Dave, Sam is very knowledgeable of the Star Wars universe, I think that is good, always good to bring the fans in.

seems like it's going to be brought cleverly, and having MR liam neeson to voice him is just... unexpected, that's excellent!! can't wait

It would be great if they would take the opportunity to add him into RotS like what was originally intended.

This has taken me by surprise and I am absolutely blown away, by Neeson's return to the Saga.
It's kind of a shame that his has been spoiled now, but what the hell - it's just so freakin' awesome!

Now that would be absolutely incredible and if they had any sense, they would have already done it and it's just one, of the completely amazing and cool things, that await fans on the upcoming Bluray release.

At this point, I would be shocked if the scene wasn't included.

Hidden:

I'm sure he has properly recorded his dubbed line in Clones as well. I've always interpreted that scene as the moment when Qui-gon finds his identity in the afterlife. It's wonderfully ironic and complex to have Qui-gon return as Anakin's Vader persona is born. Anakin's act of evil unwittingly shocks Qui-gon back into existence, and, therefore, sets in motion events that lead both to Anakin's downfall and his ultimate salvation through the force.

I'm blown away by how awesome this news is. This season has salvaged itself since the beginning of the Savage storyline.

I hope E_CHU_TA! is right and Neeson has recorded AOTC and ROTS dialogue. The lack of a complete Qui-Gon arc is one of the great tragedies of the PT. I still wish that Neeson had appeared as a ghost in either AOTC or ROTS.

I dig the scene with Yoda, but I still feel that there's a lot unaccounted for. Jinn, you pimped this kid up like he was the galaxy's saving grace yet he just obliterated the Jedi order. What say you now? Him talking to Yoda about merging with the force just makes me feel like he's avoiding talking about a giant elephant in the room.

Remember, Qui-Gon made an "appearance" with Yoda when Anakin slaughtered the Tusken Raiders - during Anakin's darkest moment in his life thus far. But I don't think that conflicts with your interpretation. If anything, it gave us a hint that Qui-Gon had the potential to reappear in EpIII. I really think we missed out on that scene when ROTS was in theaters, but I could honestly go without it being added to the Blu-ray now. Knowing that it was "supposed" to happen is good enough for me.

Most unexpected this is. confuzzled

The show seems to finally be hitting a high note coming out of the first half of Season 3. It's also reasonable to speculate Neeson returned to record some lines for the prequel films.

Liam Neeson returning as Qui-Gon Jinn in the Clone Wars HD is a good move on Lucasfilm's part. The Savage arc and upcoming Mortis Arc has retroactively made up for those half-dozen political episodes.

Remember when MF first revealed the Yoda & Qui-Gon Jinn scene that was meant to be in Sith.

You don't, like, think that maybe, just maybe... Neeson when recorded these lines, they also recorded his half of the Polis Massa scene, and that'll be re-inserted (or even just included as an extra) in the BluRay version of RotS?

If Frank Oz would reprise Yoda for the scene*, the visuals are all archived elements (ie no live-action material to shoot), so it'd be possible.

* As much as I love Tom Kane, he's sort of made Yoda his own now, and I think inserting him between Oz's scenes would be incredibly clunky.

Or maybe, just maybe... the sly fox Lucas already asked Oz to do these lines while they were working on Revenge of The Sith in 2005!

I always thought not getting Liam to do the scene would be a big deal to Lucas. I think the scene is actually pretty important to the narrative, and it's deletion makes it feel like the Obi-Wan and Yoda scene was an after thought.

According to StarWars.com, Pernilla August (who played Shmi Skywalker in TPM and AOTC) will also be reprising her role as Anakin's mother in the upcoming arc. Perhaps in a flashback sequence?

Maybe she'll be coming back as a force ghost like Qui-Gon. After all, it is one of the little known perks of getting-it-on with the Force.

I may have jumped the gun about Neeson recording dialogue for the HD DVDs.
