starwars-universe.com: Could you tell us what you work exactly is?

Jonathan Bach: I am a concept artist and work in many capacities with many different parties in order to bring ideas from words to images. Sometimes I'll work freely in order to provide ideas to a client who is still forming a loose picture of a project, while at other times if a project is further along I'll provide visual solutions to meet specific requirements whether that be from a director, production designer, art director, etc.


starwars-universe.com: How many time did you work with Lucasfilm? What can you say about the Star Wars Live-Action Project?

Jonathan Bach: I was fortunate enough to work for Lucasfilm for about 2 years (until the end of 2009). Working on the show was an incredibly rare and exciting opportunity and I am extremely grateful to have contributed to the deep mythology that is Star Wars. The live-action series is still in development and of course as such I can not give any details. However, I will say that it is quite different than anything that has come before it in the Star Wars universe and will certainly be worth the wait.

The cityscapes look very Hong Kong-esque. Both with the waterfront ghettos and the Chinese castles in the background of the "raining city" pics.
I wonder if the live-action show will be grounded in more real-life based locations (at least urban) than we are accustomed to seeing in the films.

The raining cityscapes remind me a lot of bladerunner.

Just re-iterating that what's posted here is just this artist's portfolio work - there's no guarantee that lots of cityscapes here translates into lots of urban settings for the TV show.

No guarantee, but it does give a reference point. Prior to these images, I thought the featured city would be much smaller in scale.

There is no reference point, unless the assumption is that this artist does primarily only cityscapes. My point was that none of these pictures have any direct bearing on the TV show because they are probably not concept art for the TV show - the work that an artist maintains on his website is probably portfolio work, not anything he'd currently be working on and/or be laboring under a non-disclosure agreement for.

I wish I could trust the word of someone who has worked and surely hopes to work again for Lucas that this will be worth the wait. Clone Wars has redeemed GL a fair bit but I still worry at times. I worry that it is taking so long because of story line issues.

The concept art looks very cool and I hope it is a sign of what is to come, if they hired him I would assume it is to design something like that for them. It may not have the same asian feel to it on the show, but I could definitely see something like the rain scene in a star wars story.

It has got a little of that "bladerunner" feel to it, the same feel I had with the zam wessel scene in ATOC, I wouldn't mind seeing more of that.
