Hulk #103

[spoil]I'm starting to wonder if I'm the only person who totally digs the current Planet Hulk arc. I read a lot of reviews online, just to see what's worth my reading, and everyone seems to hate it or not review it at all. WTF? I think the changes made to Hulks character and status with the people around him over the past year or so have set up the World War Hulk storyline very well. And the appearance of Banner this ish did a lot to subtly change the main thing I heard people bitching about. That is, that the duality of the character wasn't present. I think it's obvious at this point that Banner is afraid and angry, and basically willing to let Hulk be in charge, perhaps even help guide him into being more 'thoughtful'. I just hope he doesn't go back to being all "Duhh...Hulk Smash!!" once he gets back to Earth, with pansy Banner trying to restrain the only thing that makes him relevant. And being chased through the desert by the standard Army/FBI combo.

The bug sex took me a minute to really comprehend, but hey....aint nothin wrong, wit a little bumengriyieeend, y'know?[/spoil]

btw- are any of the Iron-Man solo books set in the current 616 timeline? Nick Fury is head of Shield? But he isn't, he's in hiding, so I'm confused. Because if all that is supposed to be relevant, are they implying that Civl-War Iron-Man might not really be Tony Stark? We haven't seen him without the suit in a while, but that seems like kind of a stretch. Are they hinting that Tony Stark is dead and his suit has been impersonating him through digital projection? I don't get it.

A lot of good reading this week.

Kind of slim pickins this week, but not a total waste. I was really surprised by the Thunderbolts:Zemo issue. I dug it. Initially reading the description of this before it was released I thought "umm.....so what", but it was a decent read. And Wolverine has a son. He kissed a man and then killed him. I don't get it.

I can't say how much I was looking forward to this issue. Morrison's take on the Joker was going to be awesome. I think this issue could've worked as a two-issue arc in the traditional format of a comic book. I wasn't expecting a mini-novel chock full of metaphors and too much exposition. I think Morrison took the Joker in a cool new direction and added some new insights into the Joker/Batman relationship but I didn't enjoy this issue.

Awesome, as always.

Same here.

I make it a point to kill the men I have kissed as well...

I am very interested to see how civil war #7 turns out today, I will be at the comic book store at noon when he opens and help him open the damn boxes from UPS

This last one was kind of underwhelming. It definately feels like there should be more.

But the fight was pretty cool, if not a little cliche.

Civil War#7
[spoil]Captain America gets subdued by the innocent civilian bystanders after kicking the crap out of a guy in a multi-million dollar suit of high powered tech armor, with his fists, and all of a sudden has the realization that he was wrong the whole time?? No fucking way.

I have read a lot of people elsewhere going off how out of character this seems, but I think Marvel still has enough respect for their readers to write a better story than what appears to be here. A number of far reaching factors in the Marvel Universe have yet to factor in, to me this smells like a great set up for later on. Tony Stark is now head of SHIELD? Nick Fury is still nowhere? Captain America's solo books are full of all kinds of sneaky shit, I'm waiting to see if this is part of some plan or if he's still all weepy. I don't buy that he surrendered like a sissy the way it was portrayed.

It sure looks like Peter Parker believes it. Allthough the actual change to the black costume still isn't explained in this issue, it shows up on him at the end. I'm assuming his life going completely sideways twice and being letdown by both sides is going to make him the darker angrier version we have been told is coming. I'm also wondering if we are going to see the scorpion running away from a reunited symbiote spider-man or if he's just sick of the red and blue.

I'm also wondering how Thor is on the cover of an upcoming Black Panther issue when the clone got his ass Amtracked by Hercules. During the "Road to Civil War" a guy with the initials DB showed up and picked up Thor's hammer in a FF issue. Is that the guy on the Cover? Guess I'll have to wait and see.

The Hulk is still going to absolutely cripple everyone. And hopefully become the New Captain Amerihulk if Rogers really turned into a pussy and decided to forget what he's been doing since 1941.

FYI for those of you that got Captain America v5 025 (Both Covers) (2007) you may need to "get" it again because a FIXED version is now up. Apparently Page 1 and Page 2 were mixed up. Again Page 1 is Page 2 and Page 2 is Page 1 if you can follow that. :v:

Haven't read Might Avengers #2 yet, but so far Cable/Deadpool #39 is my fave for the week. That's some funny shit. And still mildly interesting. I hated this book for a long time, so I think that means something. I wonder if Deadpool is ever going to appear anywhere else in the Marvel U. His increasing ability to miraculously dispatch any foe would be an amusing shock to the "real" heroes. Hell, in this issue he kills a guy without even moving, spearing a guy in the head with his sword from about 6 feet away. And seemingly never running out of weapons is a handy talent. Maybe this is a sign that it's a slow week, I'm still mulling it over.

The same shitheads who thought anyone would want to read a Friday the 13th comic in the first place. I think DC employs more people than this comic sells to.

I've got 12GB of comics......is that a lot?

I think I might be a junkie, considering thats a full third of my HD space. Anyone looking for any old issues (mostly Marvel) before I run a buzz-saw through it?

Eventually, when I have to clear up some space on my external 160gb drives, my 4.7 Spider-Man may go or I guess it can be burned to a DVD since it's a perfect fit.

Anyway, here is this week's interesting and variant covers:

It's been a while since I posted any reviews here, so in case I drop dead within the next week I thought I'd let er' rip for old times sake.

Y: The Last Man #58 was good, as the pace seems to be picking up a drop going into the final stretch of the series. I was really saddened by some of the outcomes in #58, but that I gave a shit at all is testament to the generally great writing in this series. Hope they end it all without just killing everyone though, that would be more cliche and simplistic than this one deserves.

World War Hulk has had a lot of great moments in and of itself, and the related issues, Frontline and the Incredible Hulk in particular, have been spectacular. The X-Men tie-in was actually a decent read, but thanks to the ending seemed like a big waste of fucking time. Aside from some great action and some absolutely priceless moments, the whole thing seemed like an exercise in futility. Still, can't wait to see what happens next.

Oddly enough, the Heroes For Hire tie-ins have gotten really interesting too. What's happening there should end up being pretty interesting.

All in all, I'm pleased with this event so far. Some of the fan complaints about "too much smashing" and "Where's Banner in all this?" seem really stupid to me, considering it's World War Hulk. Smashing should be everywhere and Banner, well he's in there too, just a little afraid to come out right now because he seems to agree with the Big Green on this one. I thought that shit was obvious but I still read a lot of ghey reviews (cough....ign...cough) that consistently namby pamby around about this crap. Go read Little Women er' something over your tea, okay guys?

Captain America has oddly enough still kicked ass even though Steve Rogers is apparently still really dead. And as a fan, I knew it was a great story when they offed him, but I'm starting to miss the character more as time goes on. The Alex Ross Invaders series should be pretty interesting, but I hope that Cap eventually goes home. I would like to see Bucky pick up the Cap mantle eventually. I don't think there is any other character in the Marvel Universe that could actually do the mask and shield justice, unless a miraculous resurection occurs. As a fan of Rogers as Cap, I don't think I'd be too mad if they brought him back in half assed style at this point. Sure it could be stupid, but there is a big hole there and the place isn't as much fun without him.

Still, the Cap series without Cap is great. Brubaker has really crafted a great tale of intrigue here, and I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next.

And last but not least, Thor is back. Issue #3 finally saw the thunder god dishing out a beatdown and the lucky recipient was a fully deserving Iron-Man. This series has had a pretty slow pace up to this point, but in a good way. The first two issues were a methodical reintroduction of Thor to the post Civil-War Marvel U, and it worked really well. I think doing it any other way may have felt rushed, and now it feels natural. Oddly enough, this is also this first time we get to see where the Odinson stands on issues like Clor and registration. Apparently, he's none too pleased about them. And that bodes well for fans of Mjolnir and it's knack at fucking shit up. The art on this one is quite striking as well. Copiel Morales and Martin have really put together a visual feast here where Oklahoma even looks like a nice place to visit. Well, at least while Asgard is floating over it anyways. Can't wait to see what Thor, and Donald Blake for that matter, have to say about the neo-fascist developments, and about the death of Steve Rogers. Moreover, I can't wait to see what they do about them.

That's all for this time folks. As you can probably tell, I mostly only read Marvel and a small bit of other titles on a regular basis. But I'm pretty open to suggestions. If there is something you enjoy, talk about it here. I could use something new to enjoy every once in a while.

Oh, and Thanks DP! Wednesdays aren't just any old day of the week anymore.

I'm still trying to figure out why I care more about WWH than I did about Civil War and the Death of Steve Rodgers. It seems that the tie in's make more since in WWH than they did in Civil War.

Did I mention how wonderful it was to see Thor hand the high and mighty Tony Stark his ass on a plate?

I can't wait for Thor to finish his quest, just so Tony gets what's coming to him.

Thor has been, well... smashing. The latest issue is when the new series really took off. It appears that other mortals will be able to go transform into a Viking god also. I'm hopeing Thor is included into the World War Hulk event before it ends.

Below are the variant covers for Thor Volume III #02 & #03:

This past week seen the release of the infamous Hentai Tentacle Rape cover by Marvel:

DC, I guess had to come out with one also:

I could have done without the art on Wonder girl. It's like Teen Titans Go!.

I don't see what's so big about the Tentacle cover on the Heroes for Hire. Then again, I've seen a lot worse on Anime.
